    *UPDATE – new reviews added!

EA SPORTS SSX has finally arrived!  The game launches today but we’ve already had some great reviews from some high profile gaming media outlets.  Read on to see what people are saying about SSX:

    IGN’s SSX Review– “9/10 – Editors’ Choice”

    It's tricky! Tr-tr-tr-tr-tricky! Yeah!

    by Jack DeVries

    February 24, 2012

Extreme sports games died in the mid-2000s. They were a relic of last generation's ideals, a fleeting memory of joy that developers couldn't capture again. Then SSX rose from the dead in the most spectacular fashion, like Lazarus busting a 1080 nosegrab.

For the fifth canon installment in the SSX series (the Wii's SSX Blur doesn't count, apparently), EA Canada went all out in every aspect, bringing back familiar faces for their most epic adventure yet. Not that SSX needed a riveting story to get you into the idea of snowboarding around the world, but the plot revolves around team SSX trying to conquer the nine Deadly Descents (the most dangerous mountains in the world). Problem is, one of their former team members, Griff, claims he's going to do it first. Oh hell no. So it's a race to beat the prettyboy to the mountains.

… SSX is the video game this generation has been missing. The feeble attempts of other, lesser snowboarding games to capture the adrenaline fueled excitement of SSX don’t compare at all. This is what happens when you don’t just put the game out every year, but spend your time crafting it, creating the ultimate experience. SSX redefines snowboarding games, raises the bar for the genre, then backflips over it.

    EUROGAMER’s SSX Review – “9/10”

    Go to the mountain

    by Simon Parkin

    February 28, 2012

Few series have enjoyed such an assured and enjoyable update in the current generation of consoles. Far from being a weary evolution, SSX is a vibrant, eager advance for the Cool Boarder/Tony Hawk's lineage of extreme sports video games. EA Canada has effortlessly married the score-attack DNA of arcade gaming's earliest days with some of the most interesting and exciting multiplayer design seen in the past few years. A towering achievement then, as tall as the mountains it so diligently reconstructs.

    Team XBOX’s SSX Review – “9/10 – Editor’s Choice”

    by Kirk Williford

    February 28, 2012

SSX is a triumphant return for a loved franchise, and a clear sign that extreme sports games can still find ways to mix things up while keeping their core gameplay compelling. There's nothing better than

completing a multi-million point combo after tricking off of a helicopter while being chased by a massive avalanche – it's reasons like this that we're happy to say, “Welcome back, SSX, we've missed you.”

    OXM’s SSX Review – “9/10”

    by Matt Lees

    February 28, 2012

As a series reboot this is perfectly acceptable, but it's the new and innovative online aspects that make SSX feel absolutely superb. Packed to the brim with clever ideas, SSX is a truly unmissable surprise. While most other online modes feel like painting-by-numbers, SSX shrugs and tries something refreshingly different. This isn't just brave - it's brilliant.

    Operation Sports’ SSX Review – “9.5/10 - All-Time Classic”

    By Chris Sanner

    February 29, 2012

SSX is the prime example of what happens when you think through your game design and you actually relaunch a series with a gameplay plan which isn't based off of anything except your own imagination. The game throws the conventions of extreme sports games out of the window, balances out the gameplay and ultimately succeeds at every level.

    Game Rant’s SSX Review – 4.5/5

    By Andrew Dyce

    Feb 28, 2012

SSXmanages to accomplish the daunting task of challenging players at nearly every turn, but making the learning process satisfying enough to entice – not force – commitment and repetition. Since each mountain run is open-ended instead of linear, no two runs will ever be the same, nor will they ever cease to be a treat for the senses. With constant reminders of friendly challenges and the potential for DLC mountain ranges, the replay value isn’t in question for fans of SSX‘s basic gameplay.

For fans of SSX this new reboot shows that the series has taken a massive step forward, and newcomers will only need a brief glimpse of the game’s mix of neon and ice to decide if it’s their own brand of extreme sports. Personal preferences aside SSX confirms that the snowboarding genre cannot and should not be forgotten, and will almost certainly rank among 2012′s best offerings.

    G4TV’s SSX Review – 4.5/5

    By Adam Rosenberg

    Feb 28, 2012

EA Sports has itself one expertly designed and well put together game here. The huge, multi-path runs and silky smooth controls more than offset any minor stumbles. Whether you're a fan of the series or a newcomer looking for some thrilling downhill extreme sports action, you can rest assured that SSX is once again the king of all hills.

Vox Games’ SSX Review – 9/10

    Cold Comfort

    By Chris Plante

    February 28, 2012

SSX does an inspired job reimagining the past. And though the undoubtedly wacky characters and wub wub music will get old in time, months, maybe years from now, I will still want to be just a little bit better than everyone else on my friends list. In that way, SSX is nearly future-proof – and nearly perfect.

    GameTrailers’ SSX Review – 8.7/10

    Feb 28, 2012

SSX is a great snowboarding game that has its priorities in the right place. From the seamless online options that encourage you to compete to the graphics engine that ensures a level playing field, the entire game has been built to maximize play. The result is a game that's just flat-out fun. The more interesting moments tend to be fleeting and the single-player is anemic, but it's a great mix of old and new that will satisfy both fans of the series and first-time rippers.

    Destructiod’s SSX Review – 8.5/10

    By Jordan Devore

    February 28, 2012

It feels like an eternity since we last had a truly great SSX, which this 2012 installment certainly is. Most of what made the series so enjoyable has either been left untouched or tweaked slightly, so fans should dig what's being offered here. The online functionality in particular stands out as a wonderful addition.

    SSX Music DLC Announcement

With your feedback in mind, the SSX dev team worked hard on the upcoming Mt. Eddie & Classic Characters DLC to bring back the classic SSX experience.  They wanted the DLC to have the same feel as classic SSX titles – hence, Mt. Eddie was born; an SSX TRICKY inspired mountain with billboards and fireworks and more.
