We're still getting the hang of this whole podcast thing, so please give us your feedback- what didn't you like? What do you want to hear more about? Please leave your comments and feedback below.
Big thanks to Glen for making time for EA.com! Also, we can't go any further without bestowing our undying gratitude to Christopher Davidson our audio technician who works all those fancy switches and buttons in the booth. :-)
We'll be on hiatus this week, so the next episode will be out around July 13th. You can subscribe to automatically receive future episode at the iTunes link above or on our RSS: http://www.ea.com/rest/podcast
Thanks for listening!!
Samantha
I did NOT like the music in begining and you have to level out the volume on it. Jeff was also the voice that had the lowest volume and that seemed kind of wierd. That was my complaints.
The rest of the show was really good! It was big leap from the last one. Schofield was a much better person to talk casual to and he dared say much more. Jeff seemed much more comfortable too. The last rant was really entertaining too. As I said last time... you can't fail if you show the human side of EA. This podcast had warmth in it and it "showed". I will continue to listen... good work guys!
amazing podcast
the only official podcast from publishers i listen to. Jeff Green is the don, Dana was an excellent guest and Smanatha is aweome as always
Glenn schofield was brilliant. he seemed really down to earth for a bigshot in the videogame industry
Jeff Green is a legend... that is all.
Whoa, this was way better than expected. I had a smile on my face throughout. The interplay between the hosts and Schofield's kick-ass anecdoted made for a very enjoyable listening experience. This interview-based format really works but the choice of guest is crucial. Schofield was a brilliant interviewee, the Dead Space Extraction guy from the last episode... not so much. I realize he had a product to sell but that just made the interview kinda boring. I'd like to see more seasoned vets from EA on the podcast, telling cool stories of their wacky adventures in the 90s when they were starting out. If someone like Ray Muzyka throws in a plug for Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age that's cool but the focus should be on the person and not the game. Overall, I'm very impressed with the podcast and I'll definitely keep listening!
Thanks for the feedback everyone! We did notice Jeff's mic was low about 3/4 the way through, you may notice it's better by the end... All I can say is D'OH!!! Lesson learned, we will test and listen before recording the whole enchilada in the future. I thought the music was a good addition (upbeat, playful sounding), but I'm sure we can definitely work on leveling out the volume if that was a problem.
I think one big difference between the interviews we did in the 1st and 2nd ones was having the whole group do the interview. I think that added a lot of the conversational/fun/off-the-wall stuff that we missed out on when we interview JC in episode 1. So, we'll plan on doing that for interviews moving fwd.
Keep the feedback coming! All the feedback I'm getting here and twitter (@Samanthics) is helping me a ton, especially because this is a 100% new endeavor for us here at EA.com. Whether it's audio issues, RSS stuff, or something you want to hear more about, we want to know!! :-)
I really appreciate you providing your thoughts and want you to know that of all the cool stuff I've been able to do in my 5 years at EA, this has already been the most rewarding, and it's just the beginning!! Knowing you are listening and laughing and getting a new perspective on who we are as people and as a company... well--shucks, it warms my heart. Thanks again, and have a great holiday weekend!
Not to kick the gift horse in the mouth, but is it possible to place the podcast on Zune Marketplace as well?
It' amazing! Jeff Green is awesome! Keep doing what you do best mate! Cheers!
Great podcast, I think it captures what I was expecting from what can be considered a public relations podcast, a rare breed of podcast to say the least. The only other one I ever listened to was Blizzard's Blizzcast, which is much more professional, but I would not say better, as it does feel more clinical at the same time. Their management of time and subject makes it feel in a way that they're there to spread a direct message, not get us to know the behind-the-scenes feeling that EA's podcast seems to deliver.
I did feel a touch uncomfortable when the talking of the mock Dante's Inferno protests was brought up; as I don't think we've heard any comment on it officially, and there was no such thing in the latest episode of EA Podcast, it felt almost awkward, like Jeff Green was expecting a response but clearly it is not something Dante's developer wanted to discuss.
I'd put it down to growing pains, though yes; overall I love this new branch of publicity for Electronic Arts. There are no real suggestions I could give, though perhaps some ideas for guests; Sims 3 is out now, and the gameplay is vastly different, more detailed, more enjoyable; specifically the almost MMO-like goals, I'd love to hear more about the design decisions that went into this. Also, the PC releases of EA Sports-branded titles seems to be having a major overhaul this year, what was the decisions behind this (perhaps Peter Moore could elaborate, since it appears to be more his creative/design push than anyone else), the overall alienation of EA seemed intriguing as well, how segregated are the development houses within EA, autonomy seems to be a good thing from my perspective, leading to more creative output across a broad range of ideas-in-motion.
Bioware-Mythic and their opinions would also be interesting to hear about, particularly from a Mythic-perspective.
How about a run down of what the EA offices actually look like, do you have a lunch room? What's it like? How are the snack machines? Is it a cubicle-style office structure, or more open, or more enclosed with personal offices? How is the parking center? Do you have any EA employees who commute? How far do they live? What do they love about working at EA so much that makes them commute or is it more a case of 'a job is a job' mentality for them?
I know the podcast is more a method of promoting EA the brand, but what did every regular feel were great games prior to EA existing? EA was founded in 1982, so that gives at least half a decade of gaming prior to EA existing that could be explored there.
Has anyone on the podcast gone through an office renovation, or office moving, how were the EA offices prior? What, if any, expansions have occurred to the EA offices over the last few years?
I'm just throwing out ideas at this point, hopefully they're found useful :)
@kindgalaxy
Is there going to be a direct download? I'm not really interested in using iTunes.
just want to drop by and tell you how much I enjoy the show. Keep up the great work.
Cool podcast, it's really cool to get to hear from those in EA like this.
The podcast was great, I loved the opening music and getting inside the mind of a long-time game developer. Just make Jeff Green louder next time :)
Please make a direct download of the podcast available! I, like many others, refuse to inflict iTunes upon my PC.
You can DL direct here: http://www.ea.com/rest/podcast
A page for the podcast is coming soon, that will make it easier to find everything in one place. Cheers!
Great interview with Glen Schofield. This interview is so much better than the last one.
Keep up the good work Jeff and Sam!
Any chance of adding some ID3 tags? I don't think there were any when I was listening to this earlier today. It means it doesn't track in Last.FM. Oh, and it'd be brilliant if you could consistently stick to the same format Artist/Album data as well so they all get categorised together. Thanks! Great listen this.
your links for the direct downloads, both this one and the first episode, are messed up. You can get the correct url from this one if you search for it and copy and past it in the url, which is http://ll-100.ea.com/cem/u/f/GPO/ea.com/Podcast/2/EApodcast_episode2mix.mp3, but for the first episode the link is broken. Please fix so those of us who don't want to use itunes can listen. Thanks!
love dschingl
Great show, Jeff Green is a legend. Keep them coming.
Really cool. Like a talk show with game developers. Gives a sort of Major Nelson vibe, sorta. I like it. Keep up the good work, and Jeff Green is a hero.
I appreciate the direct download too. Thanks.
Jeff Green - can you start doing regular mailbags too?

Better podcast than the first. I was really skeptical in the beginning but I really like it it has personality lol. I also think it's really cool that Samanthix is posting back didn't really expect that. Dare I say a little better than Out of the Game :)
Great interview with Mr Schofiled. I loved to find out that there will be Dead Space and Dante's Inferno Action Figures. The information was balanced and the interventions of each of you funny at times. You don't talk nonsense between yourselves so we understand you guys better. Also keep the inside information about yourselves since that's the idea of the podcast series (also inside information of EA) isn't it?
Keep it up Samantha and Jeff
Jeff and Samantha, loved the podcast. I was a little upset that the whole System Shock 2, Dead Space connections were not explored. Dead Space is awesome because it was built upon the ghost of my favorite game System Shock 2. Keep up the good work. I subscribed to your podcast.
Good job! All you need to do is fix the mic levels and BaBam! Jeff is the Alpha and Omega lol
