Code Wars - FAQ

Q: When and where is Code Wars?
A: February 22, 2014 in the following locations:
· Bucharest, Romania
· Redwood City, CA, USA
· Stockholm, Sweden
· Vancouver, Canada
Don’t live in one of those locations? Let us know where you are and where you’d like to see an event in the future by dropping us a line at

Q: How many people are allowed per team?
A: Five. Please contact the Code Wars team for more information:

Q: What if I don’t have a team to sign up with? Can I sign up alone?
A: Yes! However, since we think you’ll enjoy this so much more with teammates, if you don’t have a team, we can help you join one the day of the event.

Q: How will I know if I’ve been accepted to participate in Code Wars?
A: We will send you confirmation along with any further details and instructions.

Q: Do I need to be physically at one of the Code Wars locations to participate?
A: Yes. No online option to compete will be offered.

Q: Do I need to bring my own laptop to the event?
A: Yes. We will provide Ethernet and power but you must bring your own laptop.

Q: Does it cost anything to participate in Code Wars?
A: No.

Q: Does EA get to keep my code or idea?
A: No – what you create is all yours, you own it. We have no intention or desire to use your submission for our business and we are not even keeping copies of the submissions after the event. However, due to the nature of the business environment we operate in, we have to take measures to avoid potential future conflicts for any user generated content created at our events. To address this, we ask that participants grant us a nonexclusive license as a measure of protection.

We know that there was some confusion and frustration around this policy when we first announced the event and we understand. We would assure everyone interested in participating that we have no intention to proactively use these measures or make money from your ideas. The measures are simply there for our protection.

The purpose and goal of Code Wars is simple: to create a fun environment, foster new ideas, and meet new talent to potentially join the EA team.

Q: Can I submit my idea to EA as a potential game or app for you to publish?
A: We aren’t looking for game submissions from this event. It’s an opportunity for you to show your skills and potentially win great prizes by building something from scratch in a short timeframe. But if you have an interest in joining the EA team, let us know and we’ll tell you more!

Q: Am I guaranteed spot at Code Wars if I register?
A: Unfortunately there is limited space for Code Wars, so we may have to limit the number of amazingly talented folks we let in. We will confirm your spot at the event no later than February 15.

Q: Will you be hiring people from this event?
A: We might. We’re always looking to connect with the best talent and will be happy to discuss our openings with anyone interested in exploring something new.

Q: How do I contact you for more information?

· Limitations

o EA has thousands of game developers all over the world who continually come up with new products and ideas internally. And sometimes these internal ideas may resemble ones that come from people outside the company. We don’t generally consider other ideas because we don’t want any misunderstanding in the future about where our ideas came from. Here, this means that your submission does not create an express or implied contract of any kind between us, and you made your submission voluntarily and without condition or any obligation from us. We do not intend to use your submission in our business, and you will continue to own your submission. But to avoid any question about the development of similar ideas in the future, you grant us a worldwide, nonexclusive license to use your submission in connection with our business in any form.

• Sponsor (as defined in Section 10 below) and its agents are not responsible for lost, late, stolen, damaged, incomplete, invalid, un-intelligible, garbled, delayed or misdirected Submissions, all of which will be void.

• Understand and acknowledge that the Sponsor(s) may have developed or commissioned materials similar or identical to your submission and you waive any claims you may have resulting from any similarities to your Entry.

• Understand that we cannot control the incoming information you will disclose to our representatives in the course of entering, or what our representatives will remember about your Entry. You also understand that we will not restrict work assignments of representatives who have had access to your Entry. By entering this Promotion, you agree that use of information in our representatives’ unaided memories in the development or deployment of our products or services does not create liability for us under this agreement or copyright or trade secret law;

o By providing any Contest Assets for entrants’ use Sponsor is granting entrants a limited, non-exclusive, non-commercial license to use the Competition Assets solely in connection with, and as a part of, the Contest. Entrants shall otherwise have no right, title or interest in or to any Contest Assets except as otherwise granted by Sponsor, and any use of the Competition Assets (including use of the Entry that contains Contest Assets) other than as permitted by these Official Rules may constitute copyright and/or trademark infringement.

o In the event of a dispute regarding any Submission, the authorized account holder of the email address used to register will be deemed to be the entrant or participant. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person assigned an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted address. Each potential winner may be required to show proof of being an authorized account holder.
