Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites.  Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news. We encourage fans to support the game and the development team by waiting and purchasing the final, polished game on March 22.  Crysis 2 is still in development and promises to be the ultimate action blockbuster as the series’ signature Nanosuit lets you be the weapon as you defend NYC from an alien invasion.  Piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community.

Well, don't blame the PC community. Console games get leaked way before release too. Just look at the last two Halo games. They were both leaked in the summer before their release. If you want to pin the blame on someone, pin it on the employee that leaked it. A developer beta build of a game is not something that just appears on torrent sites.

What rubbish. Don't blame "the PC community" for all the piracy, it's just as rife on consoles. It was obviously leaked from someone on the inside for it to be so intact. Also from reading/seeing previews the game is so dumbed down from consoles (even graphically), it won't sell well on PC anyway.

Well Cryteck thinks that one of gamers came to their office and stole the copy of the game from their office. That is why they blame us gamers? They call us thief so thanks for that. Xbox gamers will buy game and spend no more money. We PC gamers should spend more money to upgrade our PC to be able for playing their games and to make them earn their ******* money and that is how they thanks us. I bought first two games but screw them, if they call me thief then I will act like thief and use pirate version of Crisys2.

How very true @ Pandamobile and EA/Crytek watch your words otherwise a lawsuit will follow for defamation of character, its only the minority would pirate this and not the majority, don't blame pc community due to either a, you've purposely leaked it for more publicity or b, you need to vet your own staff, becareful crytek/EA there's only so many times you can claim piracy.

Exactly, this is more likely an internal leak by someone than anything else. The PC community has nothing to do with it and is getting tarred with the piracy ******** which is always does and always will do to make it look bad, eventually PC gaming will die out due to this, when piracy on consoles is just as bad, if not worse than on the PC. Typical publisher: "Something is leaked? Oh it must be piracy, it couldn't be any fault of the ours, it must be someone else who stole our hard work to put it on torrent sites." Maybe when you can start taking the blame yourself, you will get piracy issues solved before. Oh and I heard this leak also included the SolidShield master key, which is some major balls up by someone, I doubt a pirate could have gotten hold of something like that. Better start checking your offices and find out who the culprit of this is, because the more you search for external scapegoats to blame this leak on, the more problematic it will be and future titles may suffer the same fate, and guess what? Only us PC gamers who enjoy playing your games will suffer.

What I don't get is how people jump all over the piracy issue for this game. When the real issue is how did this game get leaked in the first place. If anything EA/Crytek have to take majority of the blame for this. Whatever security they had to safeguard there ip during development obviously has been compromised. Pirating is the result of EA/Crytek's carelessness and not the other way around.

I believe that they shouldn't be this pathetic about it, and instead of saying 'oh it's piracy don't download or promote it' and tell us to download it and play it, and give our feedback. I'm not going to lie, I got it, and I've played it, and if anyone from EA wants me to tell them the list of bugs and problems I've had, I'll gladly tell them and still pay for the game when it comes out. Seriously, stop being ******* about it, and let the community test it out, let us break it and tinker. I've broken the game so many times, and if it would make the final game better, I'll gladly fill out any forms they want and tell them exactly what's wrong with their game. So far, it's amazing. I love it, and I can't wait for the final version to come out.

I really think that some shady devs make the game then they sell it out behind the company's back to make more profit (IE: Call of Duty Modding (Honestly? How could people just KNOW that much source?), and then turn back around go, "Oh noes! Piracy! Slap DRM bandaid on it!" just to hide the fact that they, the developer, sold themself out.

EA is right piracy does damage the PC game market, People don't have to Mod there PC like the consoles either so piracy isn't as damaging on the console market. The First Crysis and even Far Cry was amazing and cutting edge, The rest sucked, multiplayer was never good in any crysis game. This one looked pretty interesting for multiplayer and did seem to focus more on multiplayer. I haven't played the game, but will definitly have to demo it before I buy it. EA publish alot of good games like Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 that will soon be out and looking forward to a game that has full DX11 support.

I'm outraged by the hordes of people agreeing that "we're" getting the blame for piracy, and giving huge abuse to Crytek for blaming us. Yes it was an internal leak, but its not an ordinary leak. A lot of the source got leaked, master key for the online service plus hundreds of other vital parts of the game got leaked 49 days before release! At the end of the day, they're not blaming us for pirating the game, they're asking us NOT to download it, because who would download it anyway? Us, of course! What is the difference it being an internal leak to some random guy leaking it? Either way, people will pirate it right? You also say the Xbox 360/PS3 games get leaked all the time, yes you're right but that is a massive difference. With the Xbox 360 you're paying for an online service, *** etcetera. The amount of people that have the knowledge to download/chip their consoles is TINY compared to a simple download on the PC platform. You also say that we upgraded our hardware to play this game? Okay, Crytek never told you to do that did they? Then you say "Well, without the hardware we cant play it..." yet again, you want to play it so THAtS why you upgraded your hardware. This will possibly cause a delay on the game, ruin their sales and POSSIBLY stop them from making another title. The point I'm trying to make is that we ARE to blame, because we're the ones downloading it! Either way, the game would have got leaked early. It also frustrates me to see that the comment has +166 thumbs up, you're basically agreeing that stealing from a bank is okay!

@mattyovers I think uve missed the point, if anyone is goin to download the beta some reasoning is for demo as EA have only released the for the 360 special people would like to test, not sure why though as its a beta and not the final product, and if you do your research properly everyone is loving it and stating now they have a reason to buy legit so actually this will boost sales, a report a while ago stated people who "pirate" actually buy more items then those who don't, in reality its the type of person like you who only sees black and white and not the human condition which has shades of grey. Also this is the biggest point I'll make, I've been gaming since the spectrem and if you actually know anything about gaming history u'll know it'd always been rife with piracy, now one of the most selling consoles PS1 is also the most pirated and chipped yet due to its launch gaming industry has exploded now tell me again how this will hurt sales.

@chimpdaddy123 You know absolutely nothing about how the industry works. Of course EA were going to release a demo for PC, they just wanted to make sure the demo was in good standard and bug free. The so called "exclusive" multiplayer beta for the Xbox 360 was NOT exclusive, if you used a thing called Google you would of read that EA said it is NOT an exclusive beta and were planning on releasing a beta for the PC. Forty-nine days before release is a little bit early for a demo anyway. Most of the time demo's come out a week or two before the release. A quote from you "a report a while ago stated people who "pirate" actually buy more items then those who don't" if you can find me this report then I shall bow down to you, because in any pirates eyes, if they can get the game early for absolutely FREE they will NOT buy it, now that's a fact! Who would want to spend £30/£40 on something they already have? On that note, you're an idiot that has has terrible grammar and punctuation, I can only assume you downloaded the game yourself because you're trying hard to defend piracy.

How about companies start selling games with a friendlier price tag? I'm currently a computer science/game development student hoping to get work in the industry within the next couple of years, so don't think I can't see both sides of this. For me and many others in my position, buying a game means siphoning money from the food/rent/bills budget. Quite simply its not going to happen unless the game is a reasonable price (I could almost justify $50 AUD, but it would have to be _good_).

Best comment on this page, by far I should add. It's a shame how Crytek blame US for their mistakes. One of you guys went to Crytek offices and stole their game?? Well, neither you nor me... It's YOUR fault Crytek. You should be very, very ashamed to blame us. Fire the employer that made this, get him to court, and stop with those lame speeches against PC Players/Market. By the way, actually, actually, I really think that this leak was intentional. Since Crysis 2 was announced, we never saw any media or information(besides the requirements and the old **** chat about "PC graphics will be better than consoles)about the PC version of Crysis 2. Then two weeks ago Crytek said that PC gamers were getting the multiplayer Demo soon. Then soon is gone. And MYSTERIOUSLY this Leak of a Beta version suddenly appears on the internet. Is too easy for them release an incomplete and problematic BETA of the game than prepare a official and working fine demo for us...

First I would like to say that Crytek is one amazing developer. I have played Farcry, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and going to play Crysis 2. The graphics have always been beautifully cinematic. I am downloading Crysis 2 now on the principle that I have always bought multiple copies of your games of each just to give to others so that it was me investing in their enjoyment with your products. I have been anticipating the release of this game and am extremely appalled that you would make this second game an XBOX 360 exclusive? Like seriously I have played all your games 3 times through just to enjoy the experience you provided and you throw it in my face by making me beef up my system for the full experience just to downgrade to XBOX 360? I will play this beta through and then buy 2 copies of the game and if you wanna see a receipt I will provide it. I have already paid in full a pre-order of this game from Best Buy for my brother. PUT YOUR FAN BASE FIRST!! PC FOR LIFE!!!

I don't care what audience you are trying to target...cheers to you for gaining ground in all the gaming battlefields out there... but you introduced this amazing trilogy to the PC community and it crushed our systems and forced us all to upgrade. Pushing the limits in the computer era is a bold move but it worked. at least have the decency to respect the ones that have paid for your product and made you able to move forward in pushing the limits by giving us the exclusiveness. If it was not for the PC's you would never have been able to move into the XBOX and PS3 market. I can not believe that there has been nothing for the PC users at all, and to be quite honest with you it serves you right that someone from the inside felt the same way I do and gave us a copy of your game ahead of time like you should have in the first place. Maybe if you had done it of your own accord you could have stopped the release of your full game by giving us a MP demo or something!!

Exactly right, instead of looking at their internal security theyre right on the pc piracy bandwagon. When in all likelyhood this was an internal leak. This rhetoric from crytek is getting old to say the least. Don't want to develop for pc? then go running to the archaic consoles and develop exclusively for them. Im sure that 5 year old hardware will be a big challenge to max out... Im sure if this leaks for 360 there won't be even anywhere near as big a fuss kicked up, consoe games routinely leak weks or even months early yet we hear little about it. When its a pc game though the hounds are unleashed. Getting boring to say the least, im sure Cevat Yerli will be running his mouth like usual soon enough.

Yeah, i'm sure he will hurt the PC fanbase and all his respect (what is left) by saying how the piracy is hurting their game or the future sales. EA/Crytek is already judging us by their own incompetence, and Cevat Yerli can make things even worse by saying how this will prejudice them, and it will be all our fault, of course. In the end, its still weird to see how EA is doing their best job to show that the game has leaked by sharing this kind of information (internal leak) everywhere, as it's already on their twitter, blog and facebook. That's really curious.

That's because it's a marketing ploy that all publishers and developers use so they can get more console people on board. Look at it this way. Big company employee 1 : Our new games was leaked almost a month before release date on the PC. Big company employee 2: I know let's turn this into a marketing scheme by saying all PC players are evil pirates so console people will hate them, and hopefully we will get new people on board. Big Company employee 1: That's a great idea let me write a blog post Big Company employee 1 : ALERT ALERT Due to evil hackers our AAA game has been leaked 1 month prior to release, please don't download it. Preorder X game for 360 or PC and get free *** for showing support to our company and not downloading the leaked copy. Console players : *RAGE RAGE RAGE* PC players are scum Big company is god Big Company Employee 2: That's awesome what are the comments like? Big Company Employee 1 : Console players are raging and preorders for consoles are going up. PC players are also saying they are gonna go for the console copy because they don't wanna see hackers screw up the experience. Big Company Employee 2 : Dude that's pure gold! I smell a big fat pay raise man! Big Company Employee 1 : Yea those sheeps will believe anything, even though it was our fault. Big Company Employee 2 : Dude don't let anyone hear you. We know it's our fault but blame the evil pirates. Big Company Employee 1 : Yea and guess what I was the one that leaked it! Employee 2 : Are you serious? That's genius!

Way too unrealistic. Why should PC users go for consoles? I think no one will buy a 360 or PS3 just to play the game to avoid "evil hackers" which they wont meet in the game anyway. And why should any console user hate PC users when he sees this? I mean everyone knows that such things happen, that pirates exist. And the console users don't have any disadvantage only because of a leak, they will get the game anyway. Why should Crytek risk that much just to get more pre orders? They could also get pre orders if they just say "pro order the game and get free blaballa (like you already said)".

Yeah, and piracy of porn is no where near games. Piracy of movies is nowhere near games. PC Games make up 0.6 of overall piracy on the internet, Movies and Porn makes up 30+%. There are a lot of reasons people pirate games, some of which I tend to agree with, hell the only way I can play my purchased copy of Crysis on Steam is by using a... hmmm... copy-protection-less EXE, because EA didn't remove the SecuROM even though its on freaking Steam (which thankfully they've since learned from, still doesn't let me play my game properly though), but this isn't the full game, its not a prirate or a PC Gamers fault, and by no means is this a finished product. If you're going to buy the game, like I am, a leak to me is just a demo that should've been released. So hey, we're above Gold XBox Members, we get the best preview, and I don't know about you guys, but playing something unfinished thats amazing is a surefire way to entice more people to buy the finished product.

I don't believe official sources. I do my own research. Also you don't realize that even if people pirate doesn't mean they won't buy the games. Some people pirate and then buy the game. I will admit I have pirated BF:BC2, Crysis, Crysis warhead, Black ops, and a few others. But I currently own all those games and I will gladly show any proof that is needed. I pirated them to see if they were gonna be good games. They were good so I bought them. People won't believe me but that's your decision. But you can easily search for my name and see me in those games.

I'd like to say to you that every console I've owned was rife with Piracy. The first thing that happened to the Xbox I owned was that it was flashed to allow backup copies to play. If you look at newsgroups statistics clearly show higher piracy rates. Maybe you should look at the statistics. Only idiots use torrents.

Regardless of who uses them or not, torrents account for a significant portion of the piracy figures. Those numbers can't be ignored so easily. Yes, every console has an issue with piracy (PSP, PS3, NDS, 360, etc.), but PC is the hardest hit market of all of them. It's been said time and time again so I don't know where you guys are getting the idea that console piracy is near/on the same level as PC piracy; not one study, not one article, has suggested such. I've been in this game for a while and the vast majority of CONSOLE owners do not pirate games due to difficulty. Sure flashing the 360's drive is relatively easy but nowhere near as easy as PC. PS3 piracy is starting to get a leg finally but the problem there is you still need to install a CFW, have to deal with large file downloads, and are unable to play online. Many of those factors are deterring people from pirating.

Actually your dead wrong. On the PS3 it's far easier. Download a custom firmware grab a torrent app and your good to go. For the 360 hook the drive upto a Sata cable on your PC flash and go. You also get the benefit of full MP as well. Which rarely happens on PC. Please educate yourself before making stupid comments. Also for the later versions of the 360 a group is releasing an all in one solution to make it easier for later revisions. So again your point is absolutely false.

Keep your house clean CryTek, it is no one's responsibility but your own to make sure your PC, XBOX and PS3 games don't leak onto the internet. I think I lost some IQ reading this comment. First, this is an Unfinished, Unpolished product. Who cares if they swapped to consoles as well as PC, There are some games that are beautiful on the PC, yet still play pretty well on consoles. Secondly, Mr. Ive already played through the game and its ****, Learn to properly spell, grow a sack yourself, and grow the **** up; Follow the first story? The first was fun, but the game was lacking. It was beautiful for sure, but as of the first trailer for Crysis 2, it already looks 5x better story/gameplay wise. From the information i've gathered, the beta doesnt even have Full DX11 support, and you can't choose your specs. Wouldn't spend $5 on it? Good, get the **** out so respectable players that actually support developers can. I know if i was playing multiplayer with an ****** loser like yourself, i think id rather take a bullet to the gut. I can care less about xbox getting a demo first. Big whoop, Patience is something youll need to learn in life, as well as life isnt fair. Woooow Get a ******* helmet, and go play barney. that is all.

What do you mean "support" PC? Crysis 2 is being developed on PC. So stop acting like this leak and piracy in general are a reaction to some corrupt super corporation. They're not. They would happen regardless. That's not to say that the effects of piracy are blown way out of proportion by some of these companies. And certainly the PC community is not the one to put blame onto.

Crytek/EA you have noone to blame but yourselves. I guarantee the leak was from an internal employee because of all the information that is contained within it. So look to your staff first and foremost. Second, you guys have been promising a MP demo for awhile now and have yet to give us one. You keep saying we will let you know. Well thanks to your stupidty or ignorance on how much that demo can make or break the sales we now have a much better alternative. I will say this, piracy is not effecting the gaming industry. If it is why do all these systems continue to flourish when they allow piracy? Systems include PC, xbox, Xbox360, PS2, PS3, DS, DSI, Wii, GameCube, and PSP. ALl those systems have piracy and yet sales are through the rough besides PSP and Gamecube. Hell PSP is still selling and PS2 has been selling for years even after the PS3 release. Also piracy is an excuse so Corporations can justify shoddy releases, internal leaks, and bad sales as a result of buggy software, and console ports. If the PC market is truly being effected by piracy why is Valve making so much money? Why did Dice make so much money on BF:BC2? Why did Activision make so much money on Black ops? I can go on and on but the point is piracy is only an issue because you publishers sell it to the console people so you can get more consumers over on the consoles. After all the PC gaming scene is supposed to be dead, according to journalists and publishers. Piracy, and it's effect on any platform is a marketing ploy to give people more of an incentive to move to consoles. It also gives console developers more money because PC does not have one sole company running things like consoles. Thanks for the leak though, it has definitely given me a greater incentive to buy Crysis 2 as the game is phenomenal. Expect money coming your way EA/Crytek for the preorder of the limited edition once I receive my income taxes.

Steams proven that Piracy doesn't damage PC gaming. You just need to charge the correct price and give good support. To be honest I wont be surprised if you see hundreds of thousands of Illegal downloads on this products to "Test" it before release, Primarily because PC Gamers are fedup of developers terrible console ports and no support. Remember this for future releases. When the Xbox gets exclusive beta and Demo rights how are we supposed to Try before we buy? I don't blame anyone for downloading this to be honest and nor should you

EA, because of this comment; "Piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community." I am considering NOT buying Crysis 2 at all. I was at first very interested and the leak of it made me even more curious! Stop developing poor console ports, stop slowing development down for PC in favour of Xbox 360, stop giving out demos so very early to other platforms except PC and I promise you, people will buy them for the PC! PC gamers just won't eat anything out of your hands. What can I say? EA continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community.

I bought the pre-order copy of Crysis 2 on your EA Store when I heard about this, felt pretty bad for you guys. There's a lot of confusion in various online communities right now who think the leaked copy, with D3D9 and medium settings set as the default, will look like that on release without any ability to change it. There's a lot of people attacking the game based on this, saying Crytek watered the game down for consoles, without realizing that the other renderers for D3D10 and D3D11 are there, just not currently accessible from within the in-game graphics settings menu. You would do well to dispel these rumors and get that PC demo out as soon as possible.

I personally will be buying this game retail upon release regardless as I believe CryTek is a great company that needs support from it's PC community. But they need to really be careful about leaks, and keep an eye on their employees and take measures to make sure this does not happen.

if you would have stayed faithfull to your original fans, and release a pc demo, instead of xbox360 demo first! (jumping onto the console money making bandwagon!) shame on you EA... us pc gamer people stuck with this franchise from the start when the first two crysis games were pc only. what do you expect?..... you shafted your original fans
