The DX11 Ultra Upgrade is a free visual improvement add-on introducing DirectX 11 support as well as a wealth of graphical improvements and performance optimization for both DX11 and DX9 API's.
When using the new “Ultra” spec, DX9 platforms will benefit from real-time local reflections and contact shadows. The owners of DX11 platforms, in addition, will be able to enjoy hardware tessellation (requires the installation of the “DX11 Ultra Upgrade”), parallax occlusion mapping and several improvements for shadows, water, particles, depth of field and motion blur.

So you could order crysis 2 from steam at release but since they ditched it for Origin they no longer support those how paid on steam? real smooth ea......

Buy it off Origin? Not EA's fault that Steam forces every dev to develop everything specifically to Steam. What Steam is doing is straight stupid. I love how Origin works, where it installs the game, like I have a disc, instead of forcing it all to use a Steam specific install, which then need a Steam specific patch, and need Steam to run, just to run the game, unlike Origin, where i can install it, turn it off, and play.

Whats up with people it seems that the only avenue they have to buy a game is steam.

I need help and I can't get signed in to the forums. I downloaded and installed the 1.9 patch to Crysis 2 I downloaded and installed the DX 11 Ultra patch I downloaded and installed the HighRes texture patch Great. So now I have a greyed out DX11 option on my Graphics screen and a greyed out HighRes textures option on my advanced graphics screen -- neither one of which can I enable. wtf?? I'm running DX11, 64-bit Windows 7 Pro, 5 gig memory, lots of disk space, nvidea 9800GTX card. So what am I doing wrong? Did I lose two nights of sleep downloading files (free satellite time) that I can't use?? I'm frustrated as hell

Drat -- you're right... I just went to nvidea and discovered that the 9800 is a DX10 card. I just assumed that since I was "running" DX11, I was *using* DX11. But it seems that I'm using the DX11 features that my card CAN handle, but not ALL the features of DX11... *sighs* So I guess a new video card is in order -- now all I have to do is convince my wife that I *need* to upgrade! Thanks for the response!

...your graphics card is the issue, i would think. this game running dx11 requires a pretty hefty card. im expecting 25-30 frames tops from my 2 day old machine, w/everything maxed x) i have a 560 ti for reference

And here I *thought* I HAD a 'pretty hefty card' -- it was top of the line back when I bought it. Of course, that was several years ago now that I think of it, and I learned a long time ago that when you buy computer stuff -- top of the line, best there is, etc. -- by the time you make it home and unpack it, it's already obsolete!! I doubt I can get the best this time around -- $500 - $600 is just a bit out of my fixed income budget. But $300 should get me a decent enough card (nvidea 560ti seems about right)... Thanks for the response!

The answer to all our questions are simple............... THE GRAPHICS CARD MUST SUPPORT DIRECTX11 IN ORDER TO ENJOY THE CRYSIS 2 DIRECTX11 FEATURES. Atleast I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 card, it supports Directx 11 and I'm enjoying the DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade smoothly on my PC. HAPPY GAMING .............

EA - you guys are making a good effort to fight Steam (although i enjoy both Steam and Origin now), so please - add auto patching option, and language change option without cancelling the purchase and then purchasing the same game with a different language. For now you have B- in the e-shops list

I have tryed Crysis 2 with DX11 pack - looks great, but there are several bugs: for example there are many cylindrical objects in game, that are not tessellated like barrels or car wheels. @JerryStephen-tm you need windows 7 x64 bit for the patch to work fully it says before you install it so if you have win 7 x86 the hi res textures will be grayed out

Guys I recently bought a new Gigabyte HD6850 card. After installing it, some of my games couldnt work. Crysis 2 hangs when the Crytek logo appears, when I run Arkham Asylum, they say that some files are missing. Crysis 1 works fine though. Games like FIFA 12 and AC Brotherhood work fine too. But they do not seem as clear and sharp as it used to be on my old 9800GTX+. I've tried re-installing the games and updating my drivers but nothing has changed. What could be the prob?
