A Year of Playtesting

A look back at a year of playtesting and development progress

It’s been a minute since we kicked off playtesting on skate. so we wanted to give you a quick update on the state of things and a little insight into what’s happened so far.

To date, we’ve primarily been prioritizing one fundamental thing: finding the fun. From pop-up challenges to our new collaborative building areas, and adding new tricks like firecrackers, wallies and slappies. We want to get everything to that sweet spot that feels and plays like the Skate you know and love.

Many of you have already jumped into the playtests over the last year and we are continuously reviewing all of the feedback, bugs, issues and ideas that you've shared with us. For those that haven't had the chance yet, don’t worry - there are still many playtests to come!

Here’s a clip of some of the fun that has gone down in playtests over the last year.

We also wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate our first year of playtesting with some fun data!

In our May playtest, we saw more than 12.9 million tricks attempted with nearly 1 million of those resulting in slams - ouch!

Our May playtesters also accumulated over 35.7 million experience points by completing over 90,000 challenges!

Check out the heatmap data below to see where players have been spending their time, the types of activities they’re engaging with and how they have been exploring the city.

This map is a temporary testbed environment and not the final San Vansterdam city.

All of this data and telemetry is used alongside the invaluable feedback you have given us to gain insights on how players interact with our world and the experiences available to them. The playtesting process is helping shape the future of the game. The impact from the community will continue to grow as we scale-up our playtesting on the road to launch, and as we welcome more of you into San Vansterdam through our playtests.

We also want to give a shout out to the console skate. community - yes, we are still currently only playtesting on PC but we promise console playtesting will be coming. We don’t have a date to share just yet, but stay tuned.

Sign-up and become a skate. Insider for the chance to play the game during development and help us shape the future of skate. If you’ve already signed up, keep an eye on your inbox for an invite for future playtests over the coming months.
