For Our Patient and Amazing Mayors - A Free PC Download From Origin

Our SimCity Mayors are incredibly important to the team at Maxis. We sincerely apologize for the difficulties at launch and hope to make it up to you with a free PC game download from Origin.

Starting today, every player that has activated their copy of SimCity will receive an email that will give directions on how to redeem this offer, and you can also find more information on our FAQ. We’ll be opening up the redemption portal country-by-country so some of you may see it a little sooner than others.  The portal will be live worldwide for everyone to select their game by March 22. We don’t want any of you to miss out on your free game, so please note that you must register your copy of SimCity before March 25, 2013 at 11:59 PM PDT and you must claim your free game by March 30, 2013 at 11:59PM PDT.

At Maxis, our studio values dictate that we innovate and create something that is quirky, complex and challenging. Sometimes this bites us in the butt, but our servers are green and we’re seeing record numbers of players all online and having a great time.

Here is the list of games that you will be able to choose from once you are able to redeem. It’s a great list of games across the whole EA portfolio, so pick one and add it to your Origin library on us!

  • Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Bejeweled 3
  • Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
  • Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition

We’re getting great feedback from our fans and know that many of you are having fun and exploring this whole new expression of SimCity.  We’re humbled by your patience and passion for the game. Thanks for building something very special with us, together.

And now please enjoy a disclaimer from our head legal Llama…

The blog post post was: "And to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio." and furthermore: "...kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy." And now it's reduced to some old or not well selling titles. You know, I would buy my friend a GOOD present after doing something crummy and don't come up with something lame...

problem is EA isn't a friend. Its like that friend I grew up since childhood with that slept with my GF, then says "sorry"

If you like FPS sure. For those of us that hate them we get to pick between a racing game and 2 casual games.

Which increases the likelihood people have them. So instead of a crummy present it's one they already have.

This seems to be quite a paltry set of games. It would be much more "thoughtful" to simply give us any game from the entire EA library... 4 shooters, most of them are old; 1 crappy racing game, 2 puzzle games, and a 10 year old game that should have been what you released in a proper re-boot of the franchise in the first place. No sports games? No Sims games? There is literally 1 game on here that I'm barely interested in, and that is using interested in the loosest term... EA is pathetic.

You guys are acting like this isn't something amazing. For **** sake, its a god damn game, and EA is giving us the benefit of the doubt and giving us something for the troubles. Stop whining and learn to at least be grateful. They could of gave us nothing.

" They could of gave us nothing." Yes, they can sell a game cost $50 that is not functioning, and refuse to refund. Because they are EA, a giant company we can't do anything to them. And most importantly they got fanboys like you, who support them for doing so.

I'm happy they did it, but it's in their own self-interest. There are some oddball decisions and comments being made by Maxis and I'm not particularly grateful for the way this has played out. Hopefully, they will recover from the disappointment of the launch and start to behave like professionals soon.

For some people it's like getting nothing at all. If you don't play the games selected, or already have them then you still are getting nothing. Nothing for putting up with their lame excuses and poor service.

I would have gladly excepted Dragon Age Origins Ultimate edition which is cheaper then most of this titles. If you were going to give us new and expensive games like this you could have let us choose. Not that i'm ******** tho. Still free stuff.

3 M rated shooters after I bought a city building simulator. The third part in an RPG trilogy I haven't played the first two parts of. A m'eh racer from an annual series. 2 casual phone games. A ten year old game I've already bought 3 or 4 times before. **** you guys. I'm done. Every EA thing from now on I pirate or I skip. ...Medal of Honor Warfighter? Are you serious? Are you ACTIVELY laughing at all your customers right now? ...ALL standard editions 'cept the 1 we've all bought

They want to offset the lost revenue of giving away free games by generating DLC sales, hence the standard edition offerings.

Really? That's a pretty short list of games that many of us don't seem to be interested in - what about Sims 3 expansion packs, or even the core game? It would behoove EA to offer any game (up to a specific retail price) in their lineup. This is just giving us the sleeves off their vest...

hello EA, as much as I appreciate the offer. the problem is you really haven't considered that there are also woman playing this game who are not interested in these games. fnow is my question why didn't you choose to put the sims games in this list? or mysims for pc even though i can see it is only 5 euro but still i would choose that instead of those. and i am not saying this because i am a person that wants you to make up for this. because i really think you did a great job. greetings! :)

I think it's a good decision on EA's part to compensate players for the problematic SimCity launch, but the games offered comes off as half-hearted. All are either old, priced significantly lower than SimCity or are poorly rated. The small list may also be problematic for people who actually purchase many EA titles - it's not a stretch to assume that many players already possess one or more of BF3, ME3 and DS3 and are thus left to choose from games they find uninteresting or disappointing.=/

It's not like SimCIty doesn't work now. Why would they give you a game that costs what you paid? It's an apology gift, they didn't have to give anything.

I bought the windows version of Sim City 2013, as did everyone else posting. But I own a Mac (I play on Boot Camp). Any chance the other game could be the Mac version of Sim City 2013 that comes out later this year?
