The EA SPORTS NHL series might start putting Vegas bookies out of business. The game's annual season simulation predictions have a history of being spot on, accurately anticipating the Chicago Blackhawks as the 2010 Stanley Cup champs, the Vancouver Canucks as the 2011 Presidents' Trophy winner, and the 2011 Stanley Cup Final matchup of the Boston Bruins and the Canucks.
This year, the NHL 12 season simulation is ready to announce another list of calculations, starting with Sidney Crosby. Despite missing almost 17 games during the regular season, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain will lead his team to a second place finish in the Eastern Conference standings and ultimately the franchise's fourth Stanley Cup Championship. NHL 12 also predicts that Crosby will be awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Penguins take home the cup in a decisive 4-2 series win against the resurgent Blackhawks.
The Bruins, last year's Stanley Cup Champions, will be knocked out of the running in the first round of Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Philadelphia Flyers, while the Canucks will be removed by the Blackhawks in game seven of the Western Conference Final. It's a harsh loss for the Canucks, but despite not making it to the finals, they are still predicted to capture the Presidents' Trophy with 114 points during the regular season.
