Origin 9.0 Launches Worldwide

Origin is proud to announce the official launch of 9.0, a new version of the Origin client that brings a fresh new look and improved functionality to the PC gaming community.

Origin 9.0 introduces a number of improvements to the client user interface. The Origin friends list has been separated from the main client window, and can be moved and hidden at will. Clear, text-based pulldown menus make for simpler navigation. And in the My Games tab, we’ve added new high-res box art and hover cards for a cleaner, more modern look.

We've also been working on improvements to our cloud storage feature, which has been turned on by default in 9.0. You can disable this feature at any time by going to Origin > Application Settings and deselecting "Enable cloud storage for all supported games."

Upgrade today or download 9.0 for free to experience the best version of Origin yet.

Updating to Origin 9.0

If you’re currently logged in to the Origin client, you’ll need to exit and then restart the client to begin your update to 9.0.

If you’re not logged in to the Origin client, just start the client normally. Your update to 9.0 should begin automatically.

Downloading Origin 9.0

If you do not have the Origin client installed on your computer, you can download and install Origin 9.0 from the web:

1.  Go to www.origin.com/download.
2.  Click the orange Download Origin button.
3.  Save and run OriginThinSetup.exe.
4.  Follow the instructions that appear to install and use Origin.

For additional questions about updating or using the Origin client, visit Origin Help.

Did you ensure that you allowed Origin's latest update through your anti-virus program? This issue is sometimes caused by that, and you can read more about it here: http://bit.ly/P6FKcv

The only reason I use Origin is because I have to in order to play Battlefield 3. Stop fragmenting the PC gaming world and accept the fact that Steam owns the market.

The only reason I use steam is because the half-life games require it. I really wish Valve would give the ok to release the half-life games on Origin.

I just took the time to read through the comments page. Jesus Christ, you are the Origin Thought Police, aren't you? This comic pretty much sums up my thoughts on this fascinating specimen: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/01/25/ What actual gripe do you have with steam? There's no need for gamers fragment their libraries, origin's last-ditch attempt to get people to use their service is frustrating. The difference is steam is already an established, useful platform. Origin is not.

Why should any company have a total monopoly over the system? Steam is just Origin with a different name, by a different company.

We recommend you take a look at this help document regarding recent Origin updates, and programs that can cause conflicts: http://bit.ly/P6FKcv If that does not help, please contact Origin support at http://help.origin.com, and a support representative should be able to get you back in and running properly.

Not every single game across all regions has the high-resolution box art at this time, but we will be continuously updating all the titles to get them to the same specs.

Letting us change the overlay homepage would be nice. It took Steam over 5 years to clue in to that. No, Origin will never supplant Steam. Not a chance. But allowing any homepage we want (or blank) woudl be a good staret

Geezez, EA, this already looks like a fail. When will you learn... Do not think for one moment that your 20 mil subs have anything to do with this product. Where do you think about 75%, give or take a few, of those came from? BF3. People love BF3. People love DICE. Not your garbage. And why do you think the Wii U is going to want Origin when the entire PC gaming community doesn't even want it?

Not sure if you are serious. You don't represent the entire PC gaming community. There are a ton of people that do want Origin. Get over yourself. :)

Just because a small group of people have problems, doesn't mean everyone else does. I hate it when people assume just cause they have an issue with Origin, that everyone else does. I've been a PC gamer for many many years as well. Even I've built multiple PC's(a hobby of mine). I do not have an issue with Origin right now. All the games have worked fine, even better than steam. So don't assume just because I take EA's side on this that I somehow work for them or anything. You do understand that EA has a fanbase as well(just like valve, blizzard, etc..). As for you having problems. Man, it really sux dude. I feel bad for you. I do wish everything gets sorted out so you can enjoy your games. :)

Problem obviously not with my computer. Has put on the second computer Origin and has received precisely such problem. There is no connection with Origin. On a log-file it is visible that there is no connection on HTTPS to the report at authorisation on Origin. Refuse from Origin I can not since Battlefield 3 works only with Origin and I have bought recently Premium the version :(

The problem is solved! ESET Smart security in a mode "firewall disable" all the same filters SSL. If in options to disconnect filtration SSL or to add in an exception of a filtration ORIGIN - connection is established. The possible reason that certificate SSL Origin is incorrectly signed and ESET cannot prove key SSL and blocks connection with Origin.
