Join The Origin 9.0 Beta

Earlier this week, we gave you a first look at Origin 9.0 and its many improved features, including a revamped friends list and My Games library. Today, we’re giving you the opportunity to try 9.0 for yourself.

Get started today by opting in to Origin pre-release updates:

1.  Launch the Origin client and log in to your account.
2.  Click the icon and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
3.  Scroll down to Origin Pre-Release Participation and check the box next to “Update to the pre-release version if available.” If it’s already checked, you’re good to go.
4.  Click Close to save your settings.
5.  Restart the Origin client to begin your update.

Once your update to 9.0 is complete, you’ll have unfettered access to all of our latest features. Learn more about what's included in today's beta update in our video walkthrough with Origin Senior Community Manager J Goldberg (EA_OneLetter):

I kept that option on , but due to BF3 being no-installer type game according to EA personnel der is no saved installer. I think adding a solid backup option like steam will be great

I am sure we will have this option available to us eventually. It is something that the community has asked for.

I really like the new layout they have, especially with the friends list. They really did do a good job with this update. Hope the next one is even better.

Very nice, like the new user interface and the fact you can resize the game icons easily . Only suggestion at the minute would be utilising more screen space on the store, big empty spaces on the left & right sides of the screen. Either way, looking good and a step in the right direction.

This is something we will be working on in the future, since with the friends list no longer docked on the right side, it opens up a lot more potential for either a redesign or filling out the space more. Thanks for the feedback.

There is a backup option - if you go to the settings page, you can select an option to keep the installers after installation.

It's all good, Steam has been out for 7+ years. Origin will catch up, it will just take some time. :)

It is a really impressive move fortward, but in the Near Future you should bring us a Whole New store Layout! It is difficult to find New Games you Might like. Also you should bring the New Features like Auto-patching and the DLC-Download layout like with Mass effect 3 to older Games and Even non-EA-Games.

And the last thing i found: Could you guys integrate the Free-2-Play-Games?? If I want to play NFS World, it would be nice, if i could start it with origin.

Now that we have more space (since the friends list is on the outside), we're certainly looking at revamping the store in the future. With regard to Free-To-Play games, we're also looking at the potential of full integration down the road as well.

LIke the new looks of the UI, just a note that the Default Tab option doesn't work, will only default to the Store even when My Games are set. Any chance that the friend's list can be anchored to the main UI as a user option?

Why doesn't Order History actually take me to my order history?? Instead I just get redirected to the Store. I just purchased BF3 Premium and I'm yet to receive an email or see it appear in my games list...

it would be so useful if there was a way of buying gifts for people on friends list, for example i have recently got my brother into the battlefield scene but i cannot send him premium as a give i have to make him buy it... it was possible on steam...

This is one of the features I ask for most. I really want to buy some games for some of my friends. I am sure EA is working on this or looking into allowing us to buy games as gifts.

I don't get into all this bling thing, nor do I get into the 'social' aspect of gaming. Call me old fashioned if you will but to me sociliasing is actually spending time with real life people. As for the speed of the client, lighter leaner and faster is definitely better. Adding all those other features will simply bloat the client. For this reason alone I avoided steam like the plague once. Unfortuanately Bethesda (Skyrim) and Square Enix (Dungeon Siege III), have rendered avoiding steam impossible.
