NHL 12 - Goalie Tutorial
Posted by EA SPORTS at 06:21PM on Tuesday, November, 15, 2011
To be a goaltender in ice hockey requires a special kind of courage—and perhaps an equal level of insanity—even with the advances in protective equipment which have been made since the days where goalies stood in front of slap shots without helmets. Thankfully for gamers in NHL 12, they assume no physical risk when they decide to strap on their pads and go behind the mask to face 100 MPH shots from the most accomplished players in the ice hockey world today.

Once again, hockey has left Atlanta for greener (and snowier?) pastures in Canada. This time, Winnipeg gets the ticket and a chance at redemption.

NHL®12 Legends Integration Blog
Posted by EA SPORTS at 05:27PM on Friday, August, 12, 2011
Hi everyone, Producer Sean Ramjagsingh here to talk about Legends in NHL®12. There are always huge arguments between members of the NHL 12 development team about how players stack up across generations – do Gretzky’s stats trump all or is Sidney Crosby a more complete player? If Gretzky was around today, could he rack up the points like he did back in the ‘80s and ‘90s? Or would today’s goaltending and faster-stronger NHL defenseman be able to keep ‘The Great One’ in check?

NHL 12 – Presentation Blog
Posted by EA SPORTS at 07:16PM on Wednesday, August, 03, 2011
My name is Ben Ross and I am the Presentation Producer for NHL 12. If you’ve been following the NHL 12 campaign so far, you would’ve seen quick clips and videos featuring some of the new intros and presentation elements that the team has worked hard on this year. Those are definitely some of the most visually exciting elements, but I wanted to take a few moments to discuss the visual direction for this year’s game, as well as touch on a few other key features that have been put in to enhance the presentation/broadcast quality.

NHl 12 Producer Blog: Revamped Be a Pro Mode
Posted by EA SPORTS at 05:42PM on Thursday, July, 21, 2011
Hey I’m Gurn Sumal, the NHL 12 game modes producer and I’ll be giving you the goods on our completely revamped Be a Pro mode where we want to see if you can “BE THE NEXT GREAT LEGEND”. If you’re familiar with Be a Pro mode you’ll know that the mode was introduced in NHL 09. NHL 12 features the most significant changes to the mode since it was introduced and if you’ve read my Be a GM blog, you’ll see how the all-new sim engine now allows users to intervene a sim at any point in time during the course of a game. This spawned what we like to call “Earn every shift” and makes Be a Pro mode a much more satisfying and realistic experience.

New Faces, New Places
Posted by EA SPORTS at 04:02PM on Tuesday, July, 05, 2011
There is a myth that exists within hockey that once the NHL trade deadline hits, since GMs have finished assembling their team, their work is done; they turn control over to the coaching staff and tell them to run with it. No different than a grizzly bear, they retire to their den to hibernate until spring. There, they lie until the NHL draft and Free Agency come stirring to wake them from their slumber. Most know that this couldn’t be further from the truth.

NHL 12: Sim Engine Blog
Posted by EA SPORTS at 03:35PM on Thursday, June, 30, 2011
Welcome back for another Game Team development blog for NHL 12. I’m Brian Krause, a ‘game modes’ software engineer on NHL 12. I’ve worked at EA for over 20 years now, starting back in the day at a little Burnaby Software studio called ‘Distinctive Software’. EA came along and bought ‘Distinctive’ 20 years ago and the rest is history. Last year I wrote a blog about the big ‘Be A GM’ upgrade which was our RFA/UFA integration. This year, I’ll be talking to you about another massive re-write I’ve completed, probably the largest re-factoring of ‘game modes’ code since I joined the NHL team back for NHL 08.

NHL 12 cover athlete to be announced at Awards
Posted by EA SPORTS at 01:45PM on Friday, June, 17, 2011
Last spring, Chicago's Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane pulled off quite the feat. Sure, there was that Stanley Cup title in which they both figured prominently -- Toews winning the Conn Smythe and Kane potting the Cup-winner -- but in addition to that championship, the duo also made some history when Toews was named the cover athlete for EA SPORTS NHL '11, marking the first time that teammates took the honor in back-to-back years. Kane had graced the cover of EA SPORTS NHL '10 with his trademark mouthpiece hanging out between his teeth.

Community Impressions – Full Contact Physics Engine

Following up on Producer Sean Ramjagsingh’s blog on Gameplay Enhancements earlier this week, our Community Invites that were at EA Canada in May have also published their hands-on impressions with the improved Full Contact Physics Engine this week. Though the version of the game was in an early Alpha stage, there was an immediate sense that the game was much more fluid and overall just felt much improved. Don’t take my word for it…check out their write-ups below.

NHL 12 breaks through at E3
Posted by EA SPORTS at 11:43AM on Tuesday, June, 14, 2011
“I enjoyed seeing how players would collide and how players were seen stumbling on their knees. Players could even collide and both fall but one awesome instance saw a player getting checked, stumble to his knees, only to get hit while on his knees by another player. The league would certainly not approve of this behavior on the ice but it was pretty pucking awesome.” ~Rudy Colon, SFX-360.com
