Alfred Pennyworth

Butler to the Wayne Family, Alfred Pennyworth became Bruce Wayne's surrogate father following the murder of Bruce's parents. Alfred helped facilitate Bruce's worldwide quest to acquire the skills he needed to become Gotham's dark knight defender, Batman. When Bruce returns, Alfred helps him assemble the weapons and equipment needed to make Batman a reality. In so doing, he is the first to know Batman's true identity. It is a secret he closely guards, making excuses for the billionaire playboy when the Dark Knight is called to action. Alfred also provides medical attention following Batman's encounters on the brutal streets of Gotham. But it is Alfred's sage wisdom and advice that both Bruce and his enigmatic alter ego value most.

Henri Ducard

In his search to end injustice, Bruce Wayne is approached by Henri Ducard while imprisoned in a jail halfway across the globe. Ducard, interpreter to the mysterious Ra's al Ghul, offers Wayne guidance on how to become more than a man and how to learn the skills that will one day serve Batman well. But to gain this knowledge, Wayne will have to follow Ducard into Ra's al Ghuls legendary League of Shadows, a powerful vigilante group.

Rachel Dawes

The daughter of the Waynes' housekeeper, Rachel Dawes was Bruce's closest childhood friend. It was while playing with Rachel that Bruce discovered the bat-filled caves beneath the Wayne estate. Following his parents' murders, Bruce and Rachel drifted apart. While Bruce traveled the globe, Rachel focused on graduating college and law school and ultimately became an assistant district attorney in Gotham. It was her challenge to Bruce to do something meaningful with his life and help Gotham that set him on the path that eventually led to the creation of Batman. Whether their unspoken love will develop into something more remains to be seen.

Det. Sgt. James "Jim" Gordon

A good cop on a police force mired in corruption, GCPD Detective Jim Gordon is the first friend Batman makes on the side of justice. Gordon's faith in the legal system is tested as he witnesses career criminals like Carmine Falcone elude prosecution, and by seeing his partner (Det. Flass) openly accept bribes with total disregard for the law. Realizing that Batman could help Gotham, Gordon begins a clandestine partnership with the Dark Knight.

Dr. Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow

Each person has fears that can paralyze them or shatter their mind forever - even Batman. Dr. Jonathan Crane has found a way to unleash the phobias in peoples' hearts and minds, and through his alter-ego, Scarecrow, he uses terror as a weapon against the Dark knight and other unsuspecting citizens of Gotham.

Ra's al Ghul

From a Himalayan mountaintop, Ra's al Ghul guides the League of Shadows, and if the legends are true, he has done so for longer than a mortal man is entitled to live. Ra's al Ghul has studied humanity, judged it and condemned it to a doom of his choosing.

Lucius Fox

A former board member of Wayne Enterprises, Lucius Fox was demoted and put in charge of the company's Applied Sciences division following CEO Richard Earle's corporate takeover. Upon his return to Gotham, Bruce Wayne capitalizes on Fox's unique position and "borrows" mothballed military prototypes and other inventions from Applied Sciences - all materials his company already owns - in order to outfit Batman for crime-fighting duty. Fox soon becomes one of Bruce's closest allies and confidants.
