5.9.06
These new two tutorials are aimed at users who are now very comfortable with the Worldbuilder tool. The first is a detailed document crafted by Game Designer Scott Smith which teaches you step by step how to do basic scripting when creating a single player map. Scripting is essentially defined as a set of rules and triggers that you determine on a single player map which determines how you want a mission to play out, what events you want to occur, and ultimately what the win and loss conditions are for the map. Basic scripting skills are essential to learning how to create your own single player map.

In this next tutorial Game Designer Adam Hayes takes you through his step by step process of how he created the very first good mission of The Battle for Middle-earth II which takes place in Rivendell. This tutorial takes a specific mission in the game and breaks the creation process down step by step and also gives you some insight into our own development teams basic design rules of thumb.

The World Builder tool underwent some fantastic modifications throughout the course of development on The Battle for Middle-earth II which enabled us to enhance such effects as falling snow, fog, wave and ocean coastlines, terrain flamability, and much more. Map Designer Tim Williams put together an advanced features document that is designed to showcase some of the more advanced new features of World Builder. This document is designed for those who are comfortable with the tool and ready to take their map designing skills to the next level!

The document also contains reference to a sample "map.ini" file which you can download from the link below. This ini file contains the exact code for adding in Fog, Water Reflections, Tree Detail, and most importantly, Falling Snow. If you'd like to create a snow map, we highly reccommend you DO NOT change the Falling Snow ini code provided, but simply copy and paste it in to your map.ini file. We have provided this map.ini as an example file for you to play around with, as specified in the document available above.
