3018 years passed between the time Isuldur lost control of the One Ring to the bottom of a river on his way home from the Battle of the Last Alliance (depicted at the beginning of the movie version of Fellowship of the Ring) and the time Gandalf realized that Bilbo had the ring. For 1000 of those years immediately following that massive battle, peace fell over Middle-earth like a warm blanket. Those happy days ended when the armies of evil began to emerge once again to threaten the land. Most importantly, the Nazgul re-emerged. One, the most powerful of the nine, became known as the Witch King.
After climbing out of the dark pit in which he was hiding, the Witch King began plotting war against the rule of man in the north region of Arnor, which by this point had been split into three smaller kingdoms. After setting up shop in the northern most regions of the Misty Mountains known as Angmar, he assaulted the kingdoms relentlessly for over half a century. The single player campaign will put players into the armor of the Witch King and in control of the new Angmar faction.
The design for Angmar relies much on the use of wintery themes for spells and unit art while the structures themselves are very influenced by the armor of the spiky metal armor of the Witch King and Sauron mixed with a human style of building due to the large number of evil humans marching alongside the evil leader.
