Player Performance Index | EPL Week 25 Star Line-Up

The title race, race for Champions League and relegation scrap heated up just a little more after game week 25 of the Barclays Premier League.

Emmanuel Adebayor had a stunning game with a goal and four assists in Spurs massive win over Newcastle.

Joleon Lescott's match winner for City over Villa earns him a place in the heart of defence.  While Joe Hart keeps goal after his match winning save late on.

Steven Nzonzi and Keith Andrews helped Blackburn to a vital 3-2 win over QPR at home to earn their places.  And it was Peter Odemwingie's hat trick that helped seal Mick McCarthy's fate in West Brom's massive 5-1 win over Wolves.

With thanks to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, here are the interesting facts from the weekend's matches.


Man Utd vs. Liverpool

• United temporarily went top of the Barclays Premier League table after a well-deserved 2-1 victory over their arch rivals Liverpool. Wayne Rooney is in a fine run of goal scoring form of late and bagged his 2nd double in as many games to ensure all 3 points. The EA SPORTS Player performance Index tells us that Rooney recorded the highest top speed during the game hitting 20.33mph.

• According to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index Wayne Rooney has made 615 passes so far this season. Rooney currently sits 2nd in the overall EA SPORTS Player Performance Index and only David Silva (877 passes) and Luca Modric (857 passes) have completed more passes out of any other player currently sat within the overall top 10 rankings.   

Tottenham vs. Newcastle

• Emmanuel Adebayor made 4 assists and scored 1 goal as Tottenham secured a very impressive 5-0 victory over Newcastle United. The Spurs striker completed 40 passes during the match; The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index reveals that this is the most passes he has completed in a single Premier League match so far this season.

• Spur’s left full back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has been in superb form of late and capped off another fine performance with a clean sheet and a goal. He now moves up into the top 10 of The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index for the first time this season. Interestingly The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows us that Assou- Ekotto has played more minutes this season (2333 minutes) than any other player currently in the top 10 of the Index. He has also won more tackles (32 tackles) and made more interceptions (42 interceptions) than any other player currently within the top 10 of The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.

Wolves vs. West Brom

• Peter Odemwingie was the hat trick hero as he helped his West Brom side to a very important 5-1 away win against local rival Wolves. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index tells us that Odemwingie had 7 shots on target during the match scoring 3 goals in the process. Interestingly he had only managed 7 shots on target in his previous 8 Premier League appearances before this game.
 
Aston Villa vs. Manchester City

• Manchester City saw off a determined Aston Villa side to reclaim their spot at the top of the Barclays Premier League with a 1-0 victory at Villa Park. Energetic midfielder James Milner covered 7.64 miles during the game with team mate Gareth Barry covering 7.18 miles. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that these two, along with Blackburn’s Morten Gamst Pedersen (7.07 miles) were the only Premier League players to run over 7 miles during a game in game week 25.

• As a team Manchester City covered a total distance of 68.31 miles. According to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index this was the highest total distance covered by a team during game week 25 which suggests that this City side is prepared to put in the hard work in the final stages of the season in the aim to win the title.

Fulham vs. Stoke

• Fulham’s Moussa Dembele reached a top speed of 23.29mph during his sides 2-1 victory over Stoke. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index tells us that this was the fastest top speed reached by any Premier League player during game week 25.

Everton vs. Chelsea

• Everton clinched a brilliant 2-0 victory against Chelsea to move themselves into the top 10 in the Barclays Premier League table. Interestingly The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows us that Chelsea covered a total distance as a team of 54.78 miles during the game with Everton covering 55 miles. Only Norwich City (50.11 miles) recorded a lower total in game week 25.
