GamesCom 2011 – Community Reporter Heather Evens Day Two Feature.
Today in Cologne, it was the second day of GamesCom, and so it was also my first chance to get hands on with The Sims 3 Pets. You'll hear more about my experiences with the game as the week progresses – on here and also on Twitter (@BlackGarden and the hashtag #eaukgc2011).
The show floor here at GamesCom is absolutely massive. My feet are aching from walking around so much today, so it's nice to have a bit of a rest! It seems like pretty much half of hall 6 is dominated by EA. There are booths for all the upcoming EA games, plus a few little ornaments.
The Sims area of the show floor looks amazing. The Sims 3 Pets is available to play on PC, 3DS, and console. The games are all very early builds and pretty glitchy, but the pets are cute, fluffy, and have realistic animations. I couldn't resist having a little play with it, and I wasn't disappointed. Create-A-Pet is fantastic, you really could create any animal you wanted, or recreate your real pet, you just need to be patient enough to do it.
I also checked out Need For Speed: The Run, which, true to form, I was rubbish at, but I quite liked driving around at breakneck speeds and hitting massive jumps and suchlike.
Of course, there were a few folks walking around in awesome costumes. I spotted a Link (with a Zelda), a zombie from Plants vs Zombies, and a Storm Trooper (again). My favourite costume was definitely this guy dressed as Shepard from the Mass Effect series, though. Great effort!
Much more unusual than the costumes I saw, though, was the sight of camels in a large courtyard between halls 6 and 7. They were letting people ride on them, but to be honest I have no idea why they were there. Answers on a postcard please...
