Microsoft Xbox 360

The first of the so-called next-generation consoles, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is credibly popular all around the globe: thanks to a vast, ever-growing portfolio of games and the Xbox Live online service, gamers of all types and inclinations are catered for lavishly within the Xbox community. The Xbox 360’s under-the-bonnet power supports games with an astonishing degree of realism and immersiveness, covering all genres, including action, sports, strategy, driving and shooting. The forthcoming Kinect system – which almost magically is able to detect body movements and recognise voices and faces, and does away with the need for a physical controller – looks set to ramp up the Xbox 360’s popularity still further, bringing it to a newer, more mainstream audience as well as its existing, more hardcore, fanbase.

EA Rules On Xbox 360

Electronic Arts leads the way when it comes to developing games for the Xbox 360 – it can boast top-selling titles for the console in pretty much every genre. Franchises like EA Sports FIFA, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, Battlefield, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Need For Speed and Skate are all perennial favourites among Xbox 360 owners. Medal Of Honor, Crysis 2 and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit are among this year’s most wanted Xbox 360 games. And Electronic Arts continues to push the envelope with new franchises, such as the over-the-top, anarchic Bulletstorm.

Xbox Live – Bringing Human Opposition

Xbox Live, Microsoft’s online gaming service for the Xbox 360, has brought a new dimension to gaming. It lets people, playing most of the games detailed above as well as the vast majority of all other Xbox 360 games, compete against human rather than computer-controlled opposition, and extends the life of games way beyond their single-player components. Plus, the Xbox Live Arcade lets Xbox 360 owners purchase cheap download games – such as EA’s acclaimed DeathSpank and Shank – and extra episodes for existing games (Mass Effect 2 and Dante’s Inferno are among the Electronic Arts games to receive such treatment). With over 17 million members worldwide, Xbox Live provides a whole world of gaming, with Electronic Arts leading the way.
