Meet Mike, Head of QA Engineering

The global quality assurance and quality engineering leadership recently visited Electronic Arts Galway to kick off hiring activities for our new QA and QE team!

Mike, Head of QA Engineering explains why the time is right to hire more QA talent in Galway!

Why have you decided to invest in a new team in Galway?

The Quality Engineering team is globally distributed across ten Electronic Arts locations in five countries to enable us to best serve our players around the globe. Hiring in Galway is an exciting opportunity to increase our QE presence in Europe, and work with the multiple EA studios based here in Europe. There is high quality talent in Galway, not to mention a great facility and a fantastic employee culture.

What’s your vision for the QE team in Galway?

Testing EA games is a very complex endeavour and automation of testing is critical to allow EA to deliver engaging, rich game experiences. Automation of interactive entertainment software played by millions of simultaneous users is a big technical challenge.

This challenge will only increase as games adopt new technologies and ways to play games. Virtual reality is a perfect example of this.

The QE team in Galway will be creating the tools and technologies used for automation across all of EA’s games worldwide. It’s a great opportunity to be one of the first people to tackle one of the most interesting challenges in our industry.

What do you think is exciting about Quality Engineering opportunities at EA?

Software Quality Engineers are part of a global team who promote knowledge sharing where everyone can contribute. A technically challenging and innovative software engineering role, the opportunity to see your ideas become reality, and the chance to work with many leading edge technologies in a fun, dynamic industry is unique to the SQE role at EA. You have the chance to work on every game EA produces to facilitate the production of high quality games that deliver an awesome player experience. SQE is engaged in the full lifecycle of software engineering working directly with studio stakeholders to develop and deliver end to end solutions. This team directly impacts the quality of games played by millions of people.

What do you love about working at EA?

EA is very diverse and ever changing. No two days are ever the same and I am continually challenged and always learning.
