Career News

Name: Stephanie Ku

Title: Server Engineer

Organization: Technology

Team: EADP (EA Digital Platform)

Location: Redwood Shores

Who I Am

My name is Stephanie and I recently graduated from University of California, Berkeley majoring in Computer Science. Before college, I spent most of my life living abroad in Thailand. I used to play badminton competitively and am always eager to try out new activities. Outside of work, I am an aspiring aerialist and enjoy spending time dabbling in different art mediums.

What I Do

I work as a Software Engineer on EA Digital Platform’s server-side applications supporting internal tools and services for EA’s mobile game teams. My role as an engineer involves building new features and tools for our product offerings, and maintaining the health of our services. I also collaborate with other engineers and product managers on a daily basis to improve our server systems to ensure that our products are the best they can be.

What is My Day?

Every morning, the first thing I do is go through my emails and act on any that require immediate attention. Later on, my team and I will do a quick standup meeting to sync up on our work. My days will vary depending on the project that I am working on. Our team is responsible for several modules, so on newer features, my days will involve more planning meetings and design discussions with team members. Otherwise, most of my time is devoted to software development and occasional service deployment. Additionally, every day in the afternoon without prevail, a team member will always initiate a coffee run where we all take a break and make the walk to our on-campus Starbucks.

Where Am I Going?

I have considered potentially going back to school, whether that is getting a Masters in Computer Science or an MBA, in the future. However, that would not be for several years as I am just starting out my career and want to continue working in the industry before going back to academia. I would also like to eventually try out different types of hats within the technology stack. In the near future, I foresee myself continuing to work as a Software Engineer and I believe EA has done a great job thus far in helping me grow and achieve my professional and personal goals.
