Motive supports the Code MTL program

The studio renews support to the Montreal School Board Foundation, by sponsoring the Code MTL program in 2021.

Motive is thrilled to renew its support to the Montreal School Board Foundation, by sponsoring the Code MTL program in 2021. The foundation seeks to mobilize communities to finance activities in the classroom year-round, and to support teachers in implementing extracurricular programs.

Code MTL is an example of forward thinking projects, with the objective to foster digital literacy among students aged 5 to 12 in Montreal classrooms, using a series of exciting programming workshops. In elementary grades, the course is hosted on the Scratch platform, developed by the MIT University in Cambridge and already welcoming 15M kid-coders across the globe.

In 2020, Code MTL is awarded the Most Innovative Program by the AQUOPS  (Association Québécoise des Utilisateurs d’Outils technologiques à des fins Pédagogiques et Sociales).

Since its launch, the program has shown an improvement in computer science skills, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration with students enrolled. Given its personal and engaging approach to learning, the workshops have helped narrow the gender gap between youth’s intake of tech knowledge and promote parity between all academic levels in the classroom.

“Children who participate in Code MTL workshops are passionate about it! They remain truly committed to the task. Whether they are weaker in French or math doesn't matter anymore: they can be excellent programmers. The positive impact on boys is that it increases their academic continuity. As for girls, they too are encouraged to enter the trades of the future: they play an important role, and there is an equal interest between genders.”

-         Judith Cajelais, Educator and founder of Edu GoPro

Motive’s core beliefs include a commitment to education in local communities, and setting up the next generation to successfully face future challenges using creative approaches. It’s equally important to support teachers in the implementation of coding programs- who are instrumental to introducing these lessons as a new normal. Code MTL ties these necessary elements into a single, integrated, action plan.

“We are thrilled to continue our support for Code MTL another year. This program speaks to many of the core pillars that drive our outreach mission- diversity, education, and community. More specifically, it’s important to us that we champion the development of young girls towards career paths in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Code MTL is a leap forward in that direction- by sparking interest early, and through play.”

-        Ambre Lizurey, Director of Operations at Motive

"Code MTL would not exist without its partners. Motive has demonstrated great foresight in supporting this innovative, structuring and far-reaching program. Computer coding represents a real paradigm shift in education. Thanks to Motive, the Fondation pour les élèves de Montréal is playing the role of a laboratory for innovation in Quebec’s education system”

-        Suzanne Dansereau, Director of the Foundation for the Students of Montreal
