Salute to Superfans: “Path0g3n”

We all love video games, but some just love them more than others.

Learn how one Battlefield fan shares his passion and bonds with the community.

1,700.

That’s how many hours Thomas Richter has played Battlefield games. That includes 1,000 hours of Battlefield 3, 400 hours of Battlefield 4, and 300 hours of Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Better known as Path0g3n to the Battlefield community, Thomas is from Mannheim, Germany and is a member of EA’s GameChangers program, a group of passionate players who provide valuable feedback to our development teams.

Thomas will be attending EA PLAY LA, and we sat down with him ahead of his trip to understand more about his passion for Battlefield.

Which Battlefield game was your first, and what was your experience like?

Battlefield Bad Company 2 was my first Battlefield game. I got it as a gift from a friend and I was instantly hooked. Since then I’ve played every Battlefield game.

What do you like most about the Battlefield franchise?

The variety in gameplay that the franchise has to offer. Not only from title to title, but also within one Battlefield game there are so many different things you can do while always having fun. And that fun factor gets multiplied when you play the game with friends.

Fill in the blank. The best Battlefield map of all time is:

Strike at Karkand. This is the ultimate balanced map between Infantry and vehicles.

Do you have any gameplay tips for new Battlefield players?

Be a team player!

Even when you start out and aiming or accuracy is not the best, comradery will get you the furthest. And in the end, the main goal is to reach the mission objective, not getting the most kills. That’s what makes Battlefield special.

You are part of the Battlefield GameChangers program. Can you describe what this is exactly and how you’ve helped DICE in developing Battlefield?

Players from the community get invited to the GameChanger program by EA in order to test the new games during the development phase and give feedback to the development team.

Since I have a pretty decent understanding of game development and game engines, I can give helpful feedback to the team - in this case, DICE -which will hopefully improve the gameplay and the overall game experience.

What would you tell someone interested in participating in the GameChanger program?

I’m not a YouTuber or Twitch streamer myself. To get invited to a GameChanger event, it is important to provide useful feedback. That means the feedback should be free of emotions and communicated in a factual and constructive way.

Feedback that includes suggestions for solutions or alternative ideas is especially valuable. There are different ways to be “discovered” for the program, but I think the best way is to be active in game forums.

You attended the Battlefield 1 World Premiere event in Berlin. What was your role during the event?

During the Battlefield 1 reveal event I was on stage and shared my GameChanger experiences in a discussion with Director of Product Marketing Julien Wera and Sr. Concept Artist Robert Sammelin, both from DICE Stockholm. This was a very special experience for me, which I never thought to happen.

What were your impressions of the Battlefield 1 reveal trailer?

I’m watching it every day. Is that enough of an answer?

Which element in Battlefield 1 are you the most intrigued about?

I love to fly! Be it in real life or in any kind of game.

Battlefield 1 offers a very special selection of aircrafts from the World War 1 era and amazing dogfights!

EA invited you to the EA PLAY event in L.A. What are you looking forward to the most on this trip?

To be able to play Battlefield 1 again, of course! But also to meet cool people and familiar faces from the community.

The really amazing thing about Battlefield is that so many people share the passion for this franchise. I’m very happy to be a part of it.
