Playing For Change Foundation is a non-profit organization created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. Their mission is to create positive change through music and arts education with 9 music schools and programs that have been created around the world. More than 700 young people attend free classes in dance, instruments, languages and musical theory, all taught by qualified local teachers. Projects also help meet essential needs of the larger community, including the provision of aid such as food, clean water, medicine, clothes, books, school supplies, solar energy, computers, and other modern technology.
A member of the EA Madrid Outreach committee had the opportunity to visit one of their associated schools in Bangkok and mingle with the students and the local volunteers. It only took him one day to experience how inspiring and empowering education through music and arts really is for little girls and boys in disadvantaged situations.
Back in Madrid and after telling his story, it didn’t take much to convince his EA Spain Outreach colleagues that this is a fantastic cause to support! Through an internal auction of surplus TVs and Game controllers, they managed to raise USD $1,600 that have gone directly to Khlong Toey Music Program in Bangkok, Thailand and Mitrata Nepal Music Program in Kathmandu, Nepal. EA Madrid will definitely aim to keep an open collaboration with this awesome initiative in the future…. Perhaps even getting the musicians in the EA Singapore office involved for the next event as well!
