Title: Technical Analyst
Organization: Worldwide Studios
Who I Am
I grew up in the Okanagan Valley and moved to Vancouver to attend the University of British Columbia, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Applied Science in Computer Engineering last May. I worked for Volt on Origin’s Web team during one of my summers and came back after graduating, worked with the FIFA Common Technologies team, and not too long after, I was hired by EA as a Technical Analyst.
I’m an avid gamer and grew up on BioWare titles such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and old Super Nintendo games like Chrono Trigger. I have over 30 board games and play a Dragonborn Sorcerer in my Dungeons & Dragons campaign. I love everything Star Wars and in my free time I hang out with a bunch of Stormtroopers that do charity work. All of the above is fueled by copious amounts of “tea. Earl Grey. Hot.”
What I Do
I am a Technical Analyst for FIFA, so I use my technical background to aid QA in either the development process of features and testing, or finding ways to streamline processes through the use of automated test scripts or software tools. It gives me a huge opportunity to keep my software development skills sharp and grow my knowledge base, as well as a creative outlet to build smaller scale projects and try new technologies and methods.
What is My Day?
While dodging the barrage of emails and meetings, I work on automated test scripts and tools to save time in the QA process and boost the quality of the product we deliver. I love that I can find ways to take a task that takes the team an hour a day and simplify the action to a double click on a program, or a scheduled task, allowing my users the ability to jump straight into their day.
Where Am I Going?
My goal is to develop my skills and to never stop learning. I can see myself moving into a leadership role in the next few years and bringing my technical perspective to a wider audience. I could also see myself switching to development as a software engineer, bringing my passion for user-centered design to game development and really taking EA’s “Player First” mantra to the next level.
I have a special place in my heart for Star Wars, so if an opportunity arises to bring my love of the franchise to the table, I feel I could make a huge impact and really help to make a top tier game.
