Title: Software Engineer in Test
Organization: Worldwide Studios
Location: Redwood City
Before I came to EA, I was on active duty in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. After 4.5 years of active service and a 15 month tour in Iraq, I separated from the Active Army and joined the U.S. National Guard for an additional 2.5 years. During my years of service with the U.S. National Guard, I was also attending school at ITT Technical Institute in Lathrop, CA, pursuing an Associate of Science Degree in Visual Communication, and later, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Digital Entertainment and Game Design. Shortly after acquiring my degrees, I was hired at Apple as an Electronics Tester. In December 2012, I left Apple and joined Electronic Arts on the Origin team as a Quality Analyst. After working as a Quality Analyst for two years, in November 2014 I was given the opportunity to pursue my passion in software engineering as a Software Engineer in Test on the Origin team.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing video games (mostly PC), learning/practicing new programming languages, and working on personal projects. For gaming in my free time, I am mostly playing World of Warcraft, but also enjoy playing Star Wars: Battlefront, Battlefield Hardline, and the Uncharted Collection on PlayStation 4.
Getting Your Start with EA
I was contacted by a career counselor from ITT Tech who informed me that there would be an open house at a contracting agency named Nelson Interactive for positions in Quality Assurance at Electronic Arts. I attended the open house and was later contacted for an on-site interview for a QA position at EA Maxis in Emeryville. Although I was not chosen for the position, I was again contacted about a QA role for Origin at Redwood Shores. After a phone interview and an on-site interview, I was hired in December 2012 as a Quality Analyst on the Origin team. After working as a contractor for a little under a year, I was hired permanently as a Quality Analyst II / Technical Analyst.
Working at EA
Working at EA has been nothing less than amazing. I have had the absolute pleasure of working alongside some of the brightest, most passionate and talented individuals that I have ever worked with and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better team or group of people to make my time at EA feel more special. I have had many challenges over the years and none of them would have been successes if it weren’t for the hard work and dedication of the people on the EAX / Origin team. I am truly grateful for all of the experiences and knowledge I have gained while working at EA on the Origin team.
EA has made a big impact on my life by allowing me to pursue my passion and being very flexible. EA has given me opportunities to learn from some of the industry’s most talented professionals, and without EA, I would not have the knowledge or technical ability that I have today. Since working at EA, I have become more passionate about quality in software and in games and I have improved the quality of my own projects by using the knowledge and experience that I acquired while working at EA.
