2022 Season Update - R&D Deep Dive

R&D Changes

F1 2021 Header

Enter a new era of F1®

The 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship™ signifies a new era for the sport. With new regulations to make the sport more balanced and competitive for all teams and a new sleek car design.

It’s the natural evolution of the sport with ever-changing regulations. As such, much like the sport, the upcoming 2022 Season Update for F1® Mobile Racing introduces some changes to the game (read our FAQ to learn more). In addition, the update rebalances certain aspects to maintain our game’s as authenticity.

In this blog post, we’ll be taking a deep dive into the critical changes in the R&D system, the new parts introduced, and what has been rebalanced.

New Cars

The 2022 regulations for the new car were designed to promote better racing. This is achieved thanks to revolutionary work in aerodynamics, which give drivers more confidence when following an opponent on track and tackles the unavoidable issue of dirty air. Additionally, the cars now produce more downforce, which allows them to go around corners much faster!

In addition to the changes to aerodynamics, wheel size has increased from 13 inches to 18 inches with low profile tires. Wheel covers and winglets have also been added to the wheels. This directly affects drivers maintaining optimal tire temperatures while further assisting and improving airflow.

With so many changes and the constant pursuit for better safety and performance in the sport, F1® Mobile Racing will reflect these changes in the game with new parts and their respective chassis parts. The performance and archetype have been designed to reflect the team’s real-world performance, and as such, this means some of the official team cars are better than in previous years.

Below is a graphic that reflects each team’s maximum stats after upgrades in F1® Mobile Racing.

New Parts

The main changes coming with the 2022 Season Update is the brand new cars. It’s a new era for F1®, and new regulations alter each team’s car specs from the previous year. This also means new parts have been introduced to the game to reflect the new regulations.

The new parts include Wheel Winglets, Bespoke Wheel Covers, Improved Engine Cover Vents, and many more.

Each of the new parts has its own unique stats and how they affect the car’s overall performance. Equip aero parts to increase your car’s downforce and thus its cornering speed, reducing drag and increasing top speed. Wheel covers cool down brakes and ensures they work at optimal temperature, significantly improving braking distance and efficiency.

Rebalancing

With the addition of new parts and the new regulations, the R&D system has been rebalanced, including the chassis parts. It is also important to note that to reflect the new regulations, the stats for all parts have been rebalanced, and how much these contribute to the total PI for each car.

The changes are designed to improve the overall experience and progression for players, as R&D slots for the chassis parts can be unlocked quicker, allowing for a smoother progression and unlocking the car’s full potential.

These rebalance changes also affect the base Technical Regulations car which will allow new players to be more competitive and progress through Leagues more efficiently. Additionally, this allows for more setup possibilities for each car.

The key rebalance changes are as follow:

  • Chassis part maximum level is now 13
  • Legendary parts can now be earned from League 7
  • Performance parts rebalanced to improve setups creations
  • Parts have a greater impact on a car’s PI

Legacy Parts

Now that we know what the new parts are and how they function, let’s look at what will happen to the now redundant parts. These old parts are known as “legacy parts”.

Legacy parts are not compatible with the new regulations, and as such, players will not be able to equip them in the 2022 car setups.

However, all is not lost! Players will not lose these legacy parts. Instead, with the release of the 2022 Season Update, players will be given the opportunity to recycle these legacy parts into currency. The amount of currency one gets from these parts will vary depending on their level and rarity, legendary parts being worth the most.
