Game week 28 of the Barclays Premier League and our EA SPORTS Player Performance Index inspired team of the week is here!

It's a team full of match winners with Thomas Vermaelen's last minute winner for Arsenal against Newcastle, Steven Gerrard's hat trick for Liverpool last night against Everton and David Hoilett's master class for Blackburn against Wolves - to mention a few!

With thanks to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, here are this week's interesting facts.

Swansea vs. Manchester City

  • Swansea City recorded an excellent 1-0 victory and kept up their impressive home form courtesy of substitute Luke Moore’s goal. Swansea covered a total distance of 90.83 as a team. This was 3.14 miles more than Manchester City covered in the match and also the highest total distance covered by a team during any of the 28 game weeks played so far according to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.
     
  • Swansea’s Michel Vorm makes Game Week 28’s EA SPORTS Team of The Week. Swansea currently have 6 players featuring within the top 100 of The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index with Manchester City having 12 players in the top 100. Only Manchester United have more players featuring in the top 100 with 13 players currently placed within here.

Man United vs. West Brom

  • Manchester United now sit top of the Barclays Premier League table for the first time in over 5 months after their 2-0 victory over West Brom at Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney temporarily leaped above Robin Van Persie into top spot of The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index after scoring his 19th and 20th Premier League goals of the season. From his 100 shots on goal so far this season he has hit the target with 66 of these and currently has a better shot on target ratio (66%) than any other Striker currently sat within the top 10 of The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.
     
  • According to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index Michael Carrick he made more forward passes than any other Manchester United player this season having made 736 forward passes. Jonny Evans has made the 2nd most (577 forward passes) with Rio Ferdinand in 3rd (456 forward passes). 

Wolves vs. Blackburn Rovers

  • Blackburn Rovers secured a vital victory in their battle to survive relegation with a well fought victory at relegation rivals Wolves. Young Frenchman David Hoilett was the 2 goal hero and makes game week 28’s EA SPORTS Team of The Week. Hoilett had 3 shots at goal during the game which all hit the target. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index tells us that his fastest shot recorded a speed of 40.53mph.

Bolton vs. QPR

  • Bolton move out of the bottom 3 with QPR slipping into it after a late goal sealed a 2-1 victory for the Wanderers. It’s been a solid start to life at Bolton for American defender Tim Reem with the EA SPORTS Player performance Index showing us that he has so far made 6 blocks and won both tackles he has attempted. He has also made a total of 50 attacking runs in his 3 Barclays Premier League appearances so far, one of these runs resulted in him setting up the first goal of the game during this important clash with QPR.

Chelsea vs. Stoke City

  • Roberto Di Matteo made it a winning start to life as Chelsea manager with a 1-0 victory over a battling Stoke City side. Frank Lampard leaps into 9th spot of The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index and is the highest ranked English Midfielder within the Index despite people having the opinion that this is not his best season. Lampard has scored 10 goals and has made 5 assists in his 24 league appearances this season. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows us that he has made 764 passes this season which have covered a total distance of 8.33 miles.
     
  • Saloman Kalou made only his 6th Premier League appearance of the season during his sides 1-0 win against Stoke. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that he covered 6.08 miles of ground during the game; this was the highest distance travelled by a Chelsea player suggesting he was keen to impress. He also made a total of 78 attacking runs during the game without the ball and 6 attacking runs with the ball.
