FIFA 23 | Advanced Squad Building

Advanced Squad Building

Now that we’ve got the basic squad building down, we’re going to learn how to build your squad to be the best it can be with these advanced squad building techniques.

Hybrid Squads

We all wish to manage an All-Star football team, with all of your favourites playing on the same pitch. Being able to create a hybrid squad with all sorts of nations, clubs, and leagues allows us to do just that! With the way that the chemistry system is designed, we can link players together based on their individual identifiers (nation, club, league, or a mix of the three). Heroes and Icons automatically have full chemistry points. However, they will still add to other players’ chemistry points based on their league or nation. Strategically incorporating each of these into your team will allow you to have the team you always dreamed of! Additionally, if you can’t live without a player on your team but they don’t link to anyone else you have, you can still use that Player Item! New to FIFA 23, Player Items are not impacted negatively with zero chemistry points, meaning base stats still apply.

Tactics

Being the superstar managers we are, we can assign tactics to your squad in 4 different formations to switch between during the game depending on different game situations.

For example, if you are winning a game in the 80th minute, and you wish to maintain your lead, similar to real-life matches, we will likely want to defend and see out the rest of the match. In this situation, we might switch to a formation that has 5 defenders and a low depth, meaning most of our players will sit deep and it will be hard for your opponent to get in behind. Alternatively, we could have an attacking formation where we set instructions to our players to push forward and get in the box in order to put pressure on your opponent and create more goal scoring opportunities.

In addition to those options, having both a wide formation and a narrow formation is often helpful, as you can switch back and forth depending on the type of formation your opponent is using. For example, if your opponent is using a narrow formation and you’re struggling to build up your play through the middle. Having a wide formation available would be beneficial to switch to in order to try and utilise the wings to combat your opponents formation. Ultimately, this is up to the player’s discretion, we recommend adjusting or playing around with these until you find something that works best for you!

Chemistry Styles

We can add Chemistry Styles to player items to boost specific statistics depending on where they’re playing on the field. See below:

  • Anchor: Pace, Defending and Physicality
  • Architect: Passing and Physicality
  • Artist: Passing and Dribbling
  • Backbone: Defending and Physicality
  • Catalyst: Pace and Passing
  • Deadeye: Shooting and Passing
  • Engine: Pace, Dribbling and Passing
  • Finisher: Dribbling and Shooting
  • Gladiator: Shooting and Defending
  • Guardian: Dribbling and Defending
  • Hawk: Pace, Shooting and Physicality
  • Hunter: Pace and Shooting
  • Maestro: Dribbling, Shooting and Passing
  • Marksman: Dribbling, Shooting and Physicality
  • Powerhouse: Defending and Passing
  • Sentinel: Defending and Physicality
  • Shadow: Pace and Defending
  • Sniper: Shooting and Physicality

The tables below show the Attribute increases for each Chemistry Style at 3, 2 and 1 Chemistry for both outfield players and goalkeepers.

Chemistry Style increases for Players at 2 Chemistry

Chemistry Style increases for Players at 3 Chemistry

Alternative Positioning

You can change your player’s position to suit your formation based on their real-life position changes. If you have an item that is a specific position by default, but you’re hoping to play him elsewhere in your team, if he has an alt-position available we are able to apply position changes to the item to change him to said position. By clicking on the item and tabbing to the ‘Player Details’ tab, we’re able to see the different positions that are available to each player.
