Introducing Year 2 of the Apex Legends Global Series!

We’re thrilled to announce Year 2 of the ALGS, featuring Pro League and Challenger Circuit competition with a $5,000,000 USD prize pool!

In June, the inaugural Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Championship showcased 170 of the best Apex Legends squads from all over the world as they battled for the coveted championship title and their share of an ALGS record $2.5 million prize pool.

The ALGS Championship generated an average minute audience (AMA) of over 180K during the North America Finals across player streams, watch parties and our official broadcast, establishing a new ALGS viewership record. This exceeded our previously most-watched ALGS competition – the NA Winter Circuit Playoffs in March 2021 – by 32 percent.

ALGS fans watched more than 3.5 million hours across the North America and Europe, Middle East & Africa Championship Group Stages and Finals, which resulted in more than 90K AMA for those competitions. Apex Legends competitive gaming continues to be one of many momentum drivers for EA & Respawn as the franchise continues to reach new audiences. Earlier this year, Apex Legends surpassed 100 million total players and throughout the first half of 2021, was the second most tweeted about video game in the world

None of this would be possible without the incredible efforts of our players and teams, who during the Championship, inspired the entire Apex Legends community with the highest level of competition we’ve seen in Apex Legends to date.

So from all of us at EA and Respawn, congratulations again to our 5 regional ALGS Champions - Bottom 20 (Kungarna NA) (North America), SCARZ Europe (EMEA), WOLFPACK ARCTIC (APAC South), FENNEL Korea (APAC North), and Paradox Esports (South America).

That’s enough about the past though, and while we hope that everyone has been enjoying the off-season, we’re here today to announce Year 2 of the ALGS!

New Pro League Format Brings the Heat

Building on our inaugural ALGS season, in Year 2 of the ALGS, we’re creating an ecosystem comprised of separate levels of competition for both professional and amateur Apex Legends players with the introduction of our ALGS Pro League and Challenger Circuit in North America, EMEA, APAC South, APAC North, and South America.

Console Players Join the Fight With Crossplay Competition

We’re also expanding beyond the PC for the first time in ALGS history, enabling Xbox and PlayStation players to participate, bringing a large majority of our players and fans under the same competitive umbrella. To maintain competitive integrity, all controller players will be competing using PC-value aim assist settings, regardless of their platform. The battle between controllers vs mouse and keyboard is about to reach a whole new level of intensity!

Prize Pool and the Long Awaited Return to Live Events

Year 2 of the ALGS will award a $5,000,000 USD total prize pool, and our intent if conditions allow is to return to in-person competition with three live events at which we’ll crown global champions.

Read on below for more competition details and to see how you can compete in Year 2 of the Apex Legends Global Series.

Preseason Qualifiers:

Year 2 of the ALGS will kick off with four weeks of online Preseason Qualifiers to determine which 20 teams from each region will begin Split 1 competing in the Pro League, joining 20 other teams (per region) that will be directly invited and will not be required to compete in these qualifiers.

  • Registration for the Preseason Qualifiers will open on August 25, 2021 (more details coming soon!)
  • The four online Preseason Qualifier tournaments will take place on September 11-13, September 25-27, October 2-4, and October 9-11, 2021
  • The winning team from each region in each Preseason Qualifier will automatically qualify for Split 1 of the Pro League
  • Following all four Preseason Qualifier tournaments, the top 16 teams in each region by cumulative points earned throughout the qualifiers will also qualify for Split 1 of the Pro League
  • All other participating teams will begin Split 1 in the Challenger Circuit

Pro League - Split 1:

  • All 5 regions of the Pro League will be comprised of 40 teams:
    • 20 directly invited teams (we’ll be announcing these teams soon)
    • 20 teams from the Preseason Qualifiers
  • The 40 teams in each region will be seeded into four groups of ten teams each using Year 1 ALGS and Preseason Qualifier performance
  • The Pro League Regular Season will consist of five weeks of online competition in which teams will compete in a double round-robin format (each group plays each other group twice)
  • In total, each team will play 36 games in the Regular Season across six series of six games each
  • On the line for teams during the Regular Season is playoff qualification and a $500,000 USD prize pool
  • At the end of the Split 1 Regular Season, the bottom eight teams in each region will be relegated to the Split 2 Pro League Qualifier, where they will battle against Split 1’s top-performing Challenger Circuit teams for a spot in the Split 2 Pro League

Challenger Circuit - Split 1:

The ALGS Challenger Circuit will run parallel to the Pro League Regular Season, providing teams with the opportunity to compete to qualify for the Split 2 Pro League Qualifier.

    • North America
    • Europe, Middle East & Africa
    • APAC South
    • APAC North
    • South America
  • Following the four Challenger Circuit tournaments in Split 1, top teams by ALGS points earned throughout the Split in each region will qualify for the Split 2 Pro League Qualifier

Playoffs - Split 1:

At the end of the Pro League’s Split 1 Regular Season comes the Playoffs where, should conditions allow, 40 teams will compete in-person for $1,000,000 USD and global bragging rights.

Split 2 Pro League Qualifier:

The ALGS Split 2 Pro League Qualifier will take place in January 2022, prior to the Split 1 Playoffs. This online tournament pits the bottom eight teams from each region’s Pro League Split 1 Regular Season against top teams in each region’s Split 1 Challenger Circuit to determine who will advance to the Pro League in Split 2.

Split 2 Pro League & Challenger Circuit:

Split 2 will include another run of Pro League Regular Season, Playoffs, and Challenger Circuit competition with another $1,500,000 USD up for grabs. More details to come soon.
