4.3.1. Day 1 - Swiss-System Tournament

Competitors will begin the qualifier in a Swiss-system tournament, with the number of rounds to be determined after check-in is completed on the first day of the qualifier. Competitors will be seeded based on the following, in descending order of priority:

  • Performance in the EA SPORTS FC Pro Open Regional Ladder;

  • Invited Competitors contracted to CONMEBOL football clubs, seeded randomly; and

  • Sixty-four (64) Competitors that qualified through Qualifier Phase I, seeded randomly.

Each round will consist of a single match, and Competitors will be automatically eliminated from the tournament after three (3) losses. For the initial round, the top seeded Competitor will play the worst seed, the second best seed plays the 2nd worst seed and so on. All Competitors with two (2) or fewer losses at the end of the Swiss-system tournament will advance to Day 2 of the qualifiers.

4.3.2. Tiebreakers

If Competitors are tied on the number of matches won at the end of the Swiss tournament, the tie will be resolved by the following methods for seeding purposes for Day 2 of the Qualifier Phase II only, in descending order of priority:

  • The Competitors’ Opponents’ Match Win Percentage

    • Match Win Percentage is the number of matches won divided by the number of matches played. The Opponents’ Match Win Percentage is an average of the Match Win Percentages of all the Competitor’s Opponents. If this number is lower than 0.33, it is rounded up to 0.33.

  • The Competitors’ Game Win Percentage

  • Game Win Percentage is the number of games won divided by the number of games played.

  • The Competitors’ Opponents’ Opponent’s Match Win Percentage

    • This is an average of the Match Win Percentages of all the opponents of the Competitor’s opponents. If this number is lower than 0.33, it is rounded up to 0.33.

4.3.3. Day 2 - Double-Elimination Tournament

Competitors will be seeded based on their finishing placements from Day 1 of the tournament. Competitors will compete in a standard double-elimination tournament, with the top seeded Competitor playing the worst seed, the second best seed playing the 2nd worst seed and so on in the initial round. Winners from the initial round will move into the winners bracket and losers from the initial round will move into the losers bracket. The tournament will continue until the sixteen (16) finalists have been determined.

The top sixteen (16) Competitors qualify for the Finals.

4.4. Finals

4.4.1. Group Stage

The sixteen (16) Competitors will be seeded into four (4) groups of four (4) Competitors, Groups A-D. Each group will compete in a Double-Elimination bracket, with the top seeded Competitor playing the worst seed and the second best seed playing the 2nd worst seed in the initial round. Winners from the initial round will move into the upper bracket and losers from the initial round will move into the lower bracket. Competitors are required to win two (2) matches in order to qualify to the Knockout Stage. The top two (2) Competitors with the highest placement from each group will qualify to the Knockout stage.

7. PARTICIPATION IN LIVE EVENTS

7.1. Travel to Live Events

EA or third parties may provide travel accommodations at EA’s or such third party’s expense for some Competitors who qualify (or are invited) to compete in a Live Event. For Competitors with travel expenses paid by EA, the selection of transportation carriers, hotels, and/or related transfers, will be at EA's sole discretion. EA reserves the right to provide ground transportation instead of airfare based on a Competitor’s travel distance from a Live Event. If a Competitor requests special travel or accommodation plans, such as different travel dates, different carriers, or departure/arrival cities other than the designated city for the tournament, and if the cost of the special travel request exceeds that of the standard tournament travel plans, EA may require the Competitor to cover the difference in cost.

Receiving travel accommodations is contingent upon compliance with these Official Rules. In the event a Competitor is disqualified, or travel is forfeited for any reason, EA may award that Competitor’s transportation, accommodations, current placement in the Event, and/or the prize associated with Competitor’s current placement to an alternate Competitor, who may assume that Competitor’s place in the Competition.

Incidentals for travel, including, without limitation: telephone calls, facsimile charges, Internet charges, spa/beauty salon services, laundry, tours/excursions, gift shop purchases, hotel processing fees, airline service charges and any other expenses not mentioned in these Official Rules are the sole responsibility of the Competitor or parent/guardian, and the Competitor may be asked to account for any such incidental charges by providing the applicable hotel with a credit card. Hotel and airfare cannot be used separately. Travel and accommodations are subject to availability and certain restrictions. Any extra nights’ stay and any additional costs associated with an extended stay are the sole responsibility of the Competitor and his or her parent/guardian. Valid passport and/or other travel documentation may be required, which is the responsibility of each Competitor. Additional restrictions may apply.

7.2. Declaration of Eligibility and Request for Biographical Information

In order to participate in Live Events, receive travel accommodations to in-person Live Events, and/or receive equipment from EA to participate in online-only Live Events, Competitors must sign a Declaration of Eligibility and complete the Request for Biographic Information. Declaration of Eligibility will be sent to Competitors at the email addresses associated with the EA Accounts used to register for Events as described in Section 2 of these Official Rules. If a Competitor does not complete and return the Declaration of Eligibility and Request for Biographic Information within two (2) business days of attempted notification, fails to sign and/or return the Declaration of Eligibility within the required time period, refuses travel, is ineligible to accept travel, or is unavailable to travel during the required dates listed in Event Rules for the specific Event, the Competitor forfeits travel accommodations, as well as their place in the respective Event.

If a Competitor is a minor in his or her territory of residence, the Competitor’s parent or legal guardian will be required to sign all necessary documents to accept travel and must accompany the Competitor to the Live Event. In these instances, travel accommodations will include additional airfare for one (1) parent or legal guardian. Competitor and parent/legal guardian must travel together on the same itinerary and will share hotel accommodations.

7.3. Background Checks

In order to participate in a Live Event, potential prize winners may first be required to submit to a background check and provide the necessary information that EA requests to be eligible to receive a prize. EA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any potential winner based on such background check if EA determines, in its sole discretion, that awarding a prize to such winner might reflect negatively on EA.

8. ENFORCEMENT

EA Accounts, the leaderboard, and match data may be audited, including for malicious behavior and cheating. Any Competitor may be disqualified immediately from the Competition and related competitions, at the discretion of EA or its designees, for any reason, including for any failure to comply with the User Agreement, Privacy and Cookie Policy, and these Official Rules, including the Code of Conduct at Appendix B, which may include but is not limited to:

  • using any cheats, hacks or other third-party “helper” applications;

  • intentionally disconnecting from the Internet during an Event;

  • colluding with other Competitors (as further described in Appendix B2);

  • taking advantage of known exploits in the Game (it is the responsibility of Competitors to understand and avoid all current illegal exploits); or

  • abusive or disorderly behavior, including any use of harassing, negative, or profane language online.

EA, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to restart any match at any time and/or disqualify any Competitor at any time, for any reason, including but not limited to tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Competition, or acting in violation of these Official Rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner and reserves the right to void all associated entries. EA’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

All federal, state, provincial and local taxes, and international tariffs are the sole responsibility of the individual winner.

Potential winners will be required to complete, sign, and return a Prize Winner Declaration and Release within ninety (90) days of completion of the applicable Event to claim a prize. If a potential winner fails to sign and/or return the Prize Winner Declaration and Release, refuses the prize, or is ineligible to accept the prize, the potential winner forfeits the prize.

If a potential winner is a minor in their territory of residence, the potential winner’s parent or legal guardian (as required by law) will be required to sign all necessary documents upon verification of identification. Receiving a prize is contingent upon compliance with these Official Rules. In the event a potential winner is disqualified, or the prize is forfeited for any reason, EA retains the discretion to donate the applicable prize to a charity of EA’s choosing. Potential winners may be required to provide a valid shipping address to claim a prize. Allow up to three (3) months for delivery of prizes.

In the event EA cancels or suspends the Competition pursuant to Section 2.4 above, prizes will be awarded for all Events prior to such cancellation or suspension.

In that case, the Competitor’s opponent from the match in question will be given a win for that match with a three (3) goal differential or the goal differential (if the opponent was leading) at the time the issue was reported, whichever is greater.

C6. CONNECTION (ONLINE MATCHES ONLY)

C7. HOSTING

The host and, therefore, the home team of the match will be the higher-seeded Competitor. The accounts provided will have all available Ultimate Team player items from the retail version of EA SPORTS FC 24. The player items from EA shall only be used by Competitors in Competitive game mode. If these items are used by a Competitor in any other mode, they will be removed from the account and such items will not be reissued.

It is the Competitor’s responsibility to configure their account to their preferences, including the creation of their squad and account settings.

Competitors are required to compete using the provided EA Account and are prohibited from using any other account in the tournament.

No warm-up or practice games are permitted once the current matches have begun on the active stations.

No food or drinks other than water (in unbranded water bottles) are permitted at a Competitor’s station. Water bottles must remain on the ground and out of camera shot when not being used.

Competitors will have five (5) minutes in between each match to adjust personal preferences and game settings and ensure their equipment is functioning properly.

If a Competitor, Event Official, or game observer fails to load into a match or loses their connection to the game during or before the start of the match, the match may be restarted from the beginning at the discretion of the Event Officials.

If an Event Official or game observer disconnects from a match after the match has begun, but all Competitors remain in the match, the match will continue.

Competitors who end a match without an Event Official’s permission may forfeit the match.

The language used in Competitor communication will be governed by the Code of Conduct, which can be found in Appendix B.

C9.2. Match Restarts

If a match is started without the approval of an Event Official, it may be restarted from the beginning at the discretion of the Event Officials.

In the event of a match interruption where a Competitor disconnects or the match must be restarted, Event Officials will monitor the match state and reset the match to the minute the disconnect took place and reset the score to the score at the time of the issue in addition to awarding the possession to the correct side.

If a match is restarted, no alterations can be made to the squad that each Competitor submitted at the start of the match. If any Competitors are found to have made any alterations to their squad during a match restart, they will immediately forfeit their match.

If a Game malfunction occurs and the cause cannot immediately be identified, an Event Official may call for the Game to be paused to investigate further.

C9.3. Match Process

All Competitors must be present to start a match. A Competitor will forfeit their match if they are not present within ten (10) minutes after the match’s scheduled start time. If a match has not begun by ten (10) minutes after the scheduled start time and neither Competitor is present, the match win may be awarded to the higher seeded Competitor or no win may be awarded, at the discretion of the Event Officials. If a match cannot begin at its scheduled start time due to a delay in the preceding match at the station, a grace period equal to the length of the delay caused by the preceding match will be applied to the scheduled start time.

The Event Officials reserve the right to modify the tournament schedule, including accelerating the start times of matches and reducing the grace period length (e.g. 3 minute grace period for matches on broadcast).

Once a match starts, it should be played to completion. Competitors are not permitted to leave their station while their active match is ongoing. Competitors may forfeit a match if they leave their station without the express permission from the Event Officials or are otherwise unable to play. Competitors may ask an Event Official for permission to leave their station during a pause, for an emergency or for an extended break between matches. The Event Officials may set a time limit by the end of which the Competitor must return to their station, or they may deny the Competitor’s request. Competitors may forfeit a match if they haven’t returned by the end of the time limit set by the Event Officials.

Competitors are prohibited from using the controller overlay in-Game at any point during a match. If a Competitor uses the controller overlay in-Game during a match, Competitor understands Event Officials will not pause or interrupt the match and Competitor’s point of view (including the overlay) may be shown on broadcast or in the Event venue.

Competitors are required to use an officially licensed PlayStation controller; this includes third-party licensed controllers like SCUF.

Competitors may not use a “turbo” or a macro button controller. Turbo controllers allow Competitors to press a button that results in performing a set of actions that would normally require the Competitors to press the same button multiple times. Button Macro controllers allow Competitors to press a button that results in performing a set of actions that would normally require the Competitor to press multiple buttons.

Competitors may not use a controller that has been modified in such a way that it alters their abilities and/or in-game mechanics in such a way that the modification offers an unfair competitive advantage (as determined in the Event Officials’ sole discretion).

Competitors may not compete using a Bluetooth connection with their controller. Competitors are required to maintain a wired connection with their console at all times.

Competitors can pause the game to call an Event Official to assist with equipment issues. Event Officials will not assist with Competitor equipment.

C10.2. Headsets

Should Competitors not be allowed to use their own headsets during an Event, this will be specified in each of the Event Rules.

C10.3. Other Equipment

Competitors are required to use the console, monitor, headset, and network equipment provided by the Event Officials. If a Competitor finds an issue with the provided equipment, they should notify an Event Official immediately. If the Event Official can confirm that an issue has occurred, they will determine whether the match should be restarted, the win should be awarded to a Competitor, or the conditions under which the match should be resumed.

Wireless devices, including mobile phones and smartwatches, are allowed in the match area, while the Competitors are involved in active play to provide music whilst playing. Any use of earphones must not be visible and must be covered with a headset at all times. Any wireless device that is used for providing music during play must be placed face-up on the desk at all times for monitoring purposes.

If a Competitor is found to be interacting with a device during a live match, it will be confiscated by an Event Official and the privilege revoked for the remainder of the Competition.
