Day 1 Recap

Catch up on the biggest storylines from an intense Day 1 from the FIFA 19 FUT Champions Cup November from Bucharest, Romania.

FUT Champions Cup November:

The FIFA 19 FUT Champions Cup November, the first competitive event of the season, got underway from Bucharest, Romania on Friday, November 30. At kickoff, 64 of the best players in the world engaged in heated matches through five rounds of Swiss-style tournament gameplay.

The magic number to secure a berth in Saturday's knockout stage was three; Three wins for an automatic advancement to Day 2, and three losses for an automatic elimination from the event.

Read on for some of the best highlights and biggest takeaways from an emotional Day 1, plus key competitors to keep an eye on heading into Day 2.

MOVING ON — Xbox one

It's no surprise that the first goal of the day was scored by Donovan “F2Tekkz” Hunt, the 17-year-old from the UK who won last season's Barcelona event, shocking the world.

The young star-in-the-making coasted his way through Day 1 in Bucharest with a 4-1 record, and planted his flag as a true contender on the Xbox side.

Another frequent FIFA Global Series favorite, Michael “MegaBit” Bittner (Werder Esports) scored 24 aggregate goals for in his five matches, the most of any player on Xbox. The German will sleep well ahead of Saturday's knockout stage.

Additional competitors who started the event strong on the Xbox side include Canadian Nawid “Rogue GoalMachine” Noorzai who was the only Xbox player to go undefeated, and Australian Marcus “Marcus Gomes” Gomes rolled through the competition with a 4-1 record.

MOVING ON — Playstation 4

Mohammed “MoAuba” Harkous, another German player, enjoyed success early on in Bucharest.

MoAuba, was clearly having fun as he posed for photos with his opponents (like this one with Nicolas “FCB NICOLAS99FC” Villalba) before each match. The German went undefeated and stood as the only player to win all five  of his contests in the PS4 Swiss round. He punched through an impressive 31 aggregate goals for and earned 'Player of the Day' honors.

Fan favorite FCB NICOLAS99FC also advanced to the knockout round on the PlayStation 4 side, finishing the day with a 4-1 record.

One of our players to watch heading into the November Bucharest event, Joksan “Epsilon Joksan” Redona, followed up his PlayStation Continental Cup first-place finish with a 3-2 performance on Day 1. The American will look to continue riding this wave of success into the knockout stage and make a statement over the weekend.

One more PlayStation 4 favorite, August “Agge” Rosenmeier, proved himself with a 4-1 record on Day 1, and emerged victorious in what was arguably the best match of the day with a 7-6 aggregate win in penalty kicks over Simon “Roma Zimmie” Nystedt.
