The NBA is a diverse league with a diverse fan base, and EA and the team at NBA LIVE believe in celebrating all players. One upcoming way is by supporting the NBA’s 13th annual Noches Éne-Bé-A, a program in honor of fans and players from Latin American and U.S. Hispanic communities. The celebration runs throughout the month of March, with the NBA unveiling celebratory warmup shirts, hosting in-arena festivities, and more. And the NBA LIVE team is hosting a few events in conjunction with Noches Éne-Bé-A.
The NBA LIVE team is partnering with SOMOS EA on some very special events Wednesday, March 20 and Friday, March 22. SOMOS EA (which translates into “We Are EA”), supports Latino community initiatives around recruitment, development, culture, and gaming.
As Jorge Hernandez, Tiburon Studio Operations General Manager, and SOMOS board Global Strategic Advisor told us, “Diversity and inclusion are at the core of EA’s values. SOMOS EA, our Hispanic and Latinx employee resource group, provides the opportunities to promote diversity in the gaming industry, as well as in the experiences we create for our players.”
The first event happens on March 20, when SOMOS EA and NBA LIVE are hosting a group of kids from the Boys & Girls Club at EA’s Tiburon Studio, with a tour and behind-the-scenes look with both SOMOS EA and the NBA LIVE team. Beyond getting an exciting peek inside the studio, we’ll be introducing the kids to the various roles on the NBA LIVE team, so they can see how great games are made and what paths they might take towards having a career in the video game industry.
Then, on March 22, SOMOS EA and NBA LIVE will be hosting the kids at the Orlando Magic’s Noche Latina Night, where they’ll partake in fun activities happening alongside the Magic and the Memphis Grizzlies matchup.
We’re also having an awesome Noche Latina Live Event in NBA LIVE 19, from 12 p.m. EST Friday March 22 through 11:59 p.m. EST March 24, where players get to hoop it up on a cool custom court featuring a makeover by contemporary Mexican artist, Lourdes. Named the second-best emerging Latin American artist in 2016 by art platform Collective Culture, Lourdes is very influential in the modern Mexican art scene, known for her colorful style influenced by Mexican culture and traditions.
If players beat the challenge in this special Live Event, they’ll be awarded (at random – though players can play the event multiple times to get all items) Mexican arm or leg sleeves, a Los Suns jersey, or Devin Booker. Devin Booker will be a court battles player that can be added to a user’s team.
