How to Succeed in the World of CHEL

Open up your hockey bag and step onto the frozen ponds in the World of CHEL, creating a character that's not only unique, but powerful. With multiple game modes that reward you with customization options for your skater or goalie, you'll progress through your journey from the ponds to the pros as you play. Compete in exciting game modes, take advantage of player loadouts with classes, traits, and specialties, and join an EASHL team to own the World of CHEL rinks. We'll help you get started, and give you some tips to take your character to the next level.
Getting Started In the World of CHEL
The first thing you'll do in the World of CHEL is create a character to play with across multiple game modes. Once you enter the mode, you'll receive a Hockey Bag containing items like goal celebrations, jerseys, sticks, clothing, and more so you have a few choices for your one-of-a-kind character. You can edit details like name and preferred jersey number, appearances like hair style and eye color, and try on different clothes from your Hockey Bag for pro and casual situations.
After creating your character and opening that first Hockey Bag, you'll be welcomed into the World of CHEL with an invitation to practice in Pro-Am. Starting with Pro-Am is a great choice because it will give you a chance to hone your skills offline, with a series of challenges against CPU-controlled teams of all-star players.
Enter Pro-Am and compete in West vs. East matchups, go up against Alumni teams featuring some of the greatest all-time players, or take down Dream Teams as you get tons of practice for online competition in the World of CHEL. You can return to Pro-Am at any time and continue to develop your skills against strong opponents in an environment that encourages trying new strategies.
As you complete Pro-Am challenges, you'll continue to earn rewards, including XP boosts that will contribute towards leveling up your character. Make sure you play a few of these challenges and collect some rewards before you head into online competition.
Traits, Specialties, and Loadouts
As part of customization in the World of CHEL, you'll be able to save various loadouts of skaters or goalies for use across all game modes offered in this environment. Loadouts allow you to change and save combinations of player class, height, weight, traits, and specialties that all impact character stats in a particular loadout.
For example, creating a tall and heavy player in the Power Forward class will give that character higher strength stats, at the cost of abilities like speed. Saving these loadouts means you can have specific players ready for different situations, or even just so you're able to play the way you want on a particular day.
Height and weight aren't the only customization options to consider as you can equip your character with up to two traits for a boost in a specific category. Traits will make your character more powerful in some categories, but take note of the drawbacks, as traits like the Booming Slapper increase shot power while decreasing shot accuracy. Specialties work to provide benefits in certain situations, such as a stamina boost for you and your team after scoring a goal.
As you play and level up your character, you'll earn more traits and specialties in the customization menu. Utilize traits and specialties as you unlock them and keep different loadouts ready for different situations. In the World of CHEL, you have the freedom to create the player you’ve always wanted to be.
Hit the Ponds
Once you've created a character, completed some Pro-Am challenges, and prepared a couple of character loadouts, it's time to hit the ice in the World of CHEL online game modes and show everyone what you're made of. NHL® ONES is a good place to start – it gives you the chance to prove your skills in a free-for-all showcase of individual talent, as you progress through outdoor locations and show-off the gear and skills you’ve unlocked for your character.
Inspired by fun, pick-up-and-play arcade sports games, NHL THREES brings fans a three-on-three hockey experience with big hits, fast-paced action, and intense back-and-forth competition that can be played locally with friends. Introducing Drop-In capabilities to NHL THREES means you'll be able to experience the same cooperative competition offered in EASHL Drop-In.
At the core of the World of CHEL is EA SPORTS™ Hockey League (EASHL), the fan-favorite online mode that lets you join a team to play with and against others in a highly-competitive hockey community. This classic mode is the perfect place to play once you've leveled up your character in the World of CHEL. Join a customizable team once you've found the play style and loadouts that work for you in Pro-Am, ONES, and THREES.
As you play through these modes and level up, you'll continue to receive Hockey Bags with more customization options for your character. The more you play, the more you earn, which is the secret to being good in the World of CHEL.
