性別を問わず圧倒的な人気を誇る男の中の男、それがヒューズだ。彼に問うまでもなく、まさに歩く破壊兵器である。爆発物の信奉者であるヒューズは手当り次第に破壊行為を愉しむ。彼の行くところ爆風が止むことはない。ヒューズは自信にあふれ、後先考えないきらいがある。とりあえず叩きのめしてから問いかける、「口より手が出る」タイプだ。

ヒューズは争いの絶えない惑星、サルボで生まれ育った。混沌を求む者、命のやり取りを惜しまぬ者、平和を願う者、異なる主義を掲げる将軍たちがサルボの支配権を争っている。彼は幼なじみのマギーとともに、生涯の大半を傭兵として過ごしてきた。マギーはサルボの絶対的支配者になることを切望するが、ヒューズはアリーナの魅力に引き寄せられていった。彼はサルボの血塗られた決闘、ボーンケージに天分を見いだし、誰よりも強く、カリスマに満ちた闘士として惑星中の人気を集めたのだ。それでも、彼は競技者にとって最大の晴れ舞台であるApexゲームへの参戦を強く望んでいた。サルボがインディペンデントスペースに属している限り、その希望は叶うべくもなかったが、シンジケートに加盟したことでついに道が開けた。
