Welcome to The Grounds

New to EA SPORTS FC™ 27, step into The Grounds – a social football playground where the streets meet the stadium - for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 only.

Expanding on the Clubs experience, The Grounds invites you to meet, play, and recruit new Club members while competing across a variety of football activities, from fast-paced Kickabouts to small-sided 2v2 matches and Clubs-only 11v11 stadium tournaments. Explore three distinct districts shaped by football culture, build relationships with renowned football mentors, and develop your game on and off the pitch. Create more unique football player builds than ever before with Amps and Masteries, and personalise your look with streetwear and matchday fits.

Getting to The Grounds

The Grounds can be accessed immediately when starting FC 27 for the first time; simply play through the 11v11 warm-up and you’ll be introduced to The Grounds. In subsequent log-ins, you can reach The Grounds via the main menu.

Clubs are now accessed directly through The Grounds, making it the new starting point for connecting with your Club and jumping into matches. .

Before reaching The Grounds, you first step into the boots of cover athlete Kylian Mbappé as he warms up for an exciting UEFA Champions League match between Real Madrid and Manchester City. Play through this warm-up and you’ll be introduced to your first mentor, Alex Hunter.

Getting Around The Grounds - Basic Controls Reminder

Once you gain complete control of your player in The Grounds, moving about the space is as simple as running around the pitch.

Your movement controls - including sprinting - are the exact same as they are in a match, with the camera locked behind your in-game player much like the in-game “Pro” camera setting.

In addition to movement, The Grounds features an Emote wheel to help you communicate with fellow footballers. More information about exact controls, including how to emote, can be found in-game.

Meeting Alex Hunter, Mbappé

Alex Hunter from "The Journey" descends over a city using a bright green parachute with the number 29, preparing to land on a modern building below.

Nearly 10 years ago, the FC community was introduced to Alex Hunter through “The Journey;” in his single-player story, he experienced life in the Premier League as one of England’s best talents in the academy. However the journey ended, Hunter ultimately ended up on The Grounds as a mentor to aspiring footballers ready to become the next Icon.

By default after the kickaround introduction, you will automatically meet Alex Hunter. He will then set you on your first objective: meet the cover athlete himself, Kylian Mbappé. Walk (or run) straight to Mbappé and interact with him; this triggers your first 2v2 Street Football Match with one of the greatest athletes of the game as your squadmate.

Mbappé is your go-to Mentor for small-sided competitions; his Objectives set focuses on 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 Small-Sided matches within The Grounds. Alex Hunter, meanwhile, will task you on Objectives around general progression throughout The Grounds, offering multiple player improvement challenges inspired by his rise from prospect to champion.

No matter how you fare in this small-sided competition, your tutorial on The Grounds is over after this match. You are free to then quit to the main menu, or follow Alex Hunter’s suggestion to find your style and continue in The Grounds.

Can I Change my Archetype?

Yes!

When first entering The Grounds, you will choose a position and Archetype, which can be leveled up through Archetype XP gained while participating in activities around the Grounds.

However, you are not locked into this decision; you are free to switch your Archetype at any time in The Grounds, including in the Clubhouse or while waiting in a Clubs or Rush lobby. All of Archetypes unlocked by default, and changing an Archetype does not cost Coins nor reset consumables, so you are free to perform as much experimentation as you wish to find your preferred position, Archetype, and Playstyles.

With that in mind, you may want to make it a goal to Master an Archetype - or all of them - as it unlocks permanent attribute boosts across all Archetypes.

More information about exact Archetypes and PlayStyles can be found when editing your Player.

More Mentors on The Grounds

In addition to Mbappé and Hunter, you have two additional mentors in The Grounds in Chloe Kelly and Paulo Dybala. Following the tutorial, you are free to meet Chloe Kelly in Parkside or Paulo Dybala right at the Clubhouse, the home for Clubs.

Chloe Kelly’s mentorship path is all around Kickbabouts; more information about these can found in The Grounds Deep Dive here.

As for Paulo Dybala, his mentorship path handles Clubs and Stadium events focused on teamwork, Club identity, and loyalty.

How to Access Clubs

Clubs are now accessible through The Grounds via the “Clubhouse,” represented by house iconography on The Grounds Map. Simply finish the Tutorial and meet with Mentor Paulo Dybala to access Clubs.

Here, you’ll be able to establish your own Club, join an existing Club or accept an invitation from a friend. In addition to Leagues, Playoffs, Clubs now include new Tournaments with rotating rulesets, rewards, and rounds for even more ways to play with your friends and clubmates. If you previously enjoyed Clubs Rush or 11v11 Drop-Ins, you can find Stadium Rush in Zeiza and the 11v11 Stadium Drop-In over in Parkside.

Your Objectives

The Grounds’ main objectives revolve around your Mentors, who will introduce you to all this social playground has to offer. However, there are additional objectives to complete for Archetype XP, Season Pass XP, Consumables, and other Rewards, including cosmetic items like Tops.

Objectives can be Daily, Weekly, tied to a specific limited-time event, a whole Season, or over multiple seasons. Check into the Objectives screen to see what activities you can complete for rewards, whether it’s hitting Drop Kick targets or playing Clubs matches.

You may want to consider “stacking” similar objectives, such as a challenge to score goals in any mode within The Grounds and another challenge to play a specific mode, but you can also complete them at your own pace.

Top Five Beginner Tips

  1. FOLLOW YOUR MENTORS. Learn The Grounds by working through your Mentors’ challenges, which introduce you to ways to play and build confidence on the pitch.
  2. CHECK (AND CHECK OFF) OBJECTIVES. Need to know what to do next on The Grounds? Your Objectives, especially those provided by your Mentors, are a great starting point.
  3. A NEW WAY TO PLAY, EVERYTIME Think beyond traditional 11v11 matches; venture into a Small-Sided match to work on individual attacking or defending, or join a Kickabout for something completely different.
  4. EXPERIMENT WITH ARCHETYPES. Not sure what Archetype to start with? Because they are all unlocked by default, feel free to try them out on The Grounds, especially in Small-Sided, Kickabouts or 11v11 Stadium Pickup.
  5. BETTER WITH THE SQUAD. The Grounds is a social playground first; from Small-Sided matches and Kickabouts to Clubs, invite your friends to experience it together.
