WELCOME TO FOOTBALL ULTIMATE TEAM™

Your team, your way - this is EA SPORTS FC™ 27 Football Ultimate Team™ .

In this mode, you can create your Football Ultimate Team (or FUT, for short) with over 21,000 players worldwide, including ICONS and HEROES from the game’s greatest eras.

Play solo or co-op, challenge friends, compete against AI opponents, or take on the community in a variety of game modes - the choice is yours, and whether you are completely new to FC or a Founder, we’re here to help you through the first steps of your FUT journey.

GETTING STARTED IN ULTIMATE TEAM

From the main menu, simply select “ULTIMATE TEAM” to get into FUT. You can access the Main Menu by following the opening tutorial (through the Champions League kick-around and The Grounds Tutorial) or by quitting that tutorial at any time.

WHICH FUT STARTER PACK TO CHOOSE

When entering Football Ultimate Team, you first start building your squad through picking a Starter Pack in the “Choose Your League” screen.

You can only choose one Starter Pack at the beginning of your FUT journey; this impacts the initial Player Items you receive as well as the “Foundations” Objective rewards you receive. Each of these Starter Packs contains more players from the two chosen leagues. In other words, the Player Items you receive are more likely to be from the two chosen leagues, but there may be Player Items from other leagues mixed in from for variety.

Because you have plenty of opportunities to earn additional Player Items while playing FUT, we recommend not sweating your Starter Pack choice. Rather, consider this an opportunity to add Player Items that are from your favourite league, such as the Premier League and Barclays Women’s Super League, or LALIGA EA SPORTS and LALIGA Liga F Moeve.

YOUR FIRST SQUAD - FOUNDATIONS OBJECTIVES

During an Ultimate Team match, a player in a custom black and green EA SPORTS kit makes a quick pass as a defender in a solid green kit attempts a block.

Welcome to your new squad!

Now you can complete objectives as you play to earn rewards and further improve your club. As a new player, “Foundations” Objectives are built to give you and other new players a grand tour of Football Ultimate Team; on the Football Ultimate Team Menu, select Objectives, then select “The Journey Begins” Objective set in the Foundations to see your first objective, which is to play a match of any type.

Move to the Play menu (e.g. shoulder buttons on controller, clicking the Play tab on your mouse) and select your game mode.

As a new player, we highly recommend not playing against another player with your starting squad and instead playing Squad Battles against an AI opponent on Amateur or Semi-Pro difficulty. This can be done by viewing the “Play vs. AI” section of the Play Menu, then selecting Squad Battles.

When advancing through the menus to your first match, don’t worry about changing your squad roster, formation, or any tactics. Win or lose, the goal is just to navigate the menus, get into a game, and play. Remember you can pause at any time to view controls; stick to the basics and just focus on getting quality chances on the goal.

Moments

As part of the “Foundations” Objective series, your next steps will involve jumping into moments, where you can complete vital skill-building challenges as you start your adventure in Football Ultimate Team.

In Moments, you select a scenario that suits you, set up your squad and get onto the Pitch. Then, complete challenges by playing through the Moment to earn Stars, which can then be exchanged for Packs. Exchange Moment Stars for Rewards. Each Moment clearly outlines the scenario, the specific challenge to complete, the Moment Star Rewards, Squad Requirements (e.g. a certain Chemistry threshold), a time limit (e.g. “Within 85:00” in-game time), and Modifiers (e.g. AI Difficulty, AI Rating, etc.)

As a new player, it is recommended that you start with the Foundations: Beginner Moments to understand the basics. At your own pace, feel free to return to Moments and improve your in-game knowledge over time, especially when it comes to Set Pieces and Skill Moves. While completing Moments, you will also work towards the “Moments Mastery” Objectives which reward more rewards for your club, in addition to what you exchange with those Moment Stars.

HOW TO CHECK OBJECTIVES AND CLAIMING REWARDS

Get into this habit after every match: when you see “Objective Complete,” go straight to the Objectives page of the Ultimate Team main menu. Within each Objectives tab, switch between Objective tabs to find what Objective you’ve completed; you’ll see a circle with the number of completed Objectives in that specific tab. Then, “Claim” the Objective Rewards and celebrate a job well done.

Alternatively, you may find accessing Objectives through the Companion App easier than in game: after you are done playing, make sure to quit out of Ultimate Team before exiting FC 27, then log onto the Companion App to access the FC Hub and, when there, claiming your rewards for each objective.

HOW TO PLAY AND PROGRESS FURTHER

In a packed stadium, Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham, in a white kit, executes a perfectly timed slide tackle to win the ball from an opponent in a red kit.

The Foundations Objective set - The Journey Begins, First Team Dreams, Rising Through the Ranks, Market Madness, Chasing Greatness, and Total Football - is our recommendation for learning how to play Ultimate Team.

By design, the Foundation Objective set (and Moments, which teaches basic Controls) brings you through most of the Ultimate Team experience - multiple modes, building a squad, and accessing the Transfer Market - while granting you rewards. These rewards include:

  • Player Items.
  • Packs, which can contain more Player Items, Customization Items like Kits and Stadiums, and more.
  • FUT Coins, an in-game currency for acquiring more Packs in the Store or Items directly through the Transfer Market.

After completing the Foundations Objective set, you will have a solid foundation of Football Ultimate Team knowledge (hence the name).

With that said, here’s a few additional pieces of advice for those just starting out:

SQUAD BATTLES

One recommended mode to get familiar with is Squad Battles, where you’ll play against AI controlled opponents featuring squads created by the Football Ultimate Team community. Choose your difficulty and climb the ranks at your own pace. This mode is what you’ll play as part of the Foundations experience.

This “Beginner Friendly” mode features AI opponents at a difficulty you set. This includes the Amateur Difficulty setting, meant for new players, as well as Semi-Pro, the next step up towards difficulties used for online play. All Squad Battles are full four minute half games with all standard rules, including fouls and substitutions, enabled.

When playing Squad Battles, you can either play against a Featured Squad (and/or Team of the Week Squad) as many times as you wish, or weekly competition matches against a set of squads. If you’re not ready to lock in a weekly competition match that only can be done once, keep replaying against the Featured (or TOTW) Squad as many times as you wish.

Unlike Moments, Squad Battles count towards most general Objectives, such as scoring goals or clean sheets, and are often used for specific Objectives, especially the “Academy Grind” Evolution.

EDITING YOUR SQUAD: BASIC CHEMISTRY AND FORMATION ADVICE

When building a Club, you might be staggered by the amount of Tactics, including Formations, that can be applied. As a completely new player, start with noticing how your Starting XI and bench is formed out of the Starter Pack.

Once a Starter Pack is opened, the Player Items are arranged into their preferred Positions in a 4-4-2 Formation. This is not coincidence; it introduces the concept of managing your squad. First, when a Player Item is “Out of Position,” their attributes are negatively impacted on the pitch. That may not be ideal during a match, so in general when editing a squad, aim to put Player Items in their preferred positions. In addition to the Starting XI, there is also a Bench to where substitutes can be pulled from during a match. Again, these substitutes have their own preferred position, so keep them in mind when forming a squad. (There is also a space for Reserves, which can be helpful for Player Items who need to clear a red card suspension or heal an injury if no Injury Consumable items are present).

As for the default Formation, the 4-4-2 is one of the simplest concepts in real-life football due to its distinct lines and roles (defenders, midfield, attackers). Easy to learn, but not required; depending on what Player Items you wish to use, you may want to change your Formation by selecting this option within “Team Management.”  However, know that each Formation - including the 4-4-2 - has its strengths and weaknesses, which are seen through the “Tactics” menu within “Team Management.”

As you play FUT and learn from your fellow community members, experiment with your Tactics and what Player Items fit within them. There is no one correct Football Ultimate Team; set your own goal, whether that is only using Player Items from your favourite club or country, or discovering and using the Player Items that work with how you play, and follow that north star while experimenting with different Formations, Tactics, and ways to build that squad.

CO-OP - PLAY WITH FRIENDS

Football is a social game; with 11 athletes a side, playing as a team can be better than playing alone.

More than likely, your introduction to FC came from a friend who already played these games. If not, there are plenty to make in the FC community. In Football Ultimate Team, there are several modes that feature the ability to play with a friend (as well as against them, when you’re ready).

Before selecting an applicable mode, such as Squad Battles or Rivals, select the “Play with Friends” option to invite a friend for co-op play. However, if you want to use your friend’s squad, which we highly recommend if they are a more experienced player, wait for them to invite you before joining up.

Outside of playing matches, the new FUT Gallery and Squad Building Challenges are meant to celebrate your journey through this mode.

As you earn new Player Items, be sure to check your FUT Gallery to see if it can complete a set that grants rewards such as Kits, Badges, and even more Player Items. Even if you wind up putting a Player Item on the Transfer Market or quicksell it, it will remain as a part of your club’s history for use in the FUT Gallery. In addition to looking at your Club Record and Statistics, come back to the Gallery every so often throughout your FUT journey to be reminded of how much you’ve accomplished.

Squad Building Challenges - or SBCs - are meant to give duplicate or rarely used Player Items in your club a second life by turning into rewards like Player Items and Packs, with some testing your knowledge of how to build a squad. New to this year, Streamlined SBCs make it easier to submit Player Items in for rewards by assigning a general score to Player Items based on its OVR, Rarity, and Holographic status. SBCs are a part of the Foundations journey, so you’ll learn how to complete an SBC simply by following that Objective.

One important note about SBCs, however: Always remember that putting a Player Item in an SBC is just like selling it. In other words, once a Player Item is submitted into an SBC, it’s out of your Club, so make sure you’re ready to part ways with that Player Item before submitting into an SBC.

LOSSES ARE OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN

Your club’s Win-Loss-Tie record may mean a great deal to you, but even the greatest clubs in the world have thousands of losses, heartbreaking ties, and overall bad seasons in their history.

beyond the highest level of play at FC Pro, Weekend League and the Elite Division of Rivals are considered the pinnacle of skill. Like every footballer in the real world, every top FC player started somewhere.

If you’re not losing, then most likely, you’re not improving. Learn to not take losses personally, see where you can better your game, and go into the next match ready to try again.

HOW TO BUILD YOUR TEAM, IMPROVE YOUR CLUB

As you progress through the Foundations objectives, you’ll notice ways to improve your Club, such as collecting higher-rated Player Items, shifting formations, taking advantage of Evolutions, or new in-game tactics.

There is no single way to build your team and improve your club, but we do recommend taking the next step through these additional guides:

Because a Club is also only as good as the gaffer - that’s you, by the way. There are several guides on how to shoot, pass, and take free kicks we’d recommend brushing up on as a way to improve your game.

FIVE TIPS FOR GETTING STARTED IN FC ULTIMATE TEAM

  1. YOUR STARTER PACK IS JUST THE BEGINNING. No need to sweat this choice, but if you have a preferred league, go with your heart.
  2. ESTABLISH A FOUNDATION. Complete the Foundations Objective series to get a grand tour of Football Ultimate Team and increase your in-game knowledge.
  3. START WITH VS. AI MODES. Moments and Squad Battles are excellent ways to build confidence and learn how to play the game while also earning rewards.
  4. CLAIM YOUR REWARDS. After every match, take inventory of earned Packs, Coins, and Season Pass XP, which can all eventually add up to the FUT squad you ultimately want to build.
  5. EVERY DAY, IT GETS EASIER. Even the greatest started somewhere. Losses will happen, but keep learning from mistakes and celebrate even the smallest of wins.
