2. Gameplay

What do I get when I increase my Player Level?  What is the maximum Player Level?

Players can increase their Player Level by earning XP from playing matches. Each time a player levels up, they will earn rewards like an Apex Pack, Legend Tokens, or both.

Player Level caps at 100. After reaching Level 100, players can earn additional Legend Tokens by gaining enough XP during matches.

How are characters balanced?  Will characters get nerfed and buffed regularly?

We strive to keep our characters as balanced as possible across a variety of factors. We look at metrics such as win rate, pick rate, winning squad composition, average kills per game, etc. across skill tiers. Our goal is to make sure each character offers a different strategic playstyle, not a more powerful playstyle. We will regularly adjust character balance in pursuit of healthy game balance.

How do I earn a character?

You can unlock new characters in the store by collecting 12,000 Legend Tokens.  Earn Legend Tokens by playing standard matches.

How are you handling cheaters?

We take cheating very seriously,  employ a variety of methods to prevent it, and will take action on EA Accounts that violate the User Agreement. Apex Legends utilizes Easy Anti-Cheat from Kamu (an industry-leading anti-cheat service) on PC, and the built-in anti-cheat features available on Xbox One and PlayStation® 4.

Our goal is to make Apex Legends fun and fair for all our players. If you think you have discovered someone cheating please visit this EA Help article to learn more about reporting.

Will you be adding more maps?

Our focus is on the Kings Canyon map for now, but we may introduce new maps in the future.

Does Apex Legends support cross-platform play?

We currently don’t support cross-platform play, but are always working on new features and improvements we can add to our game.

3. Apex Packs

What are Apex Packs?

Apex Packs are packs of cosmetic items or crafting currency available in Apex Legends. They will never include any items that offer a gameplay advantage (there is no way to purchase a gameplay advantage in Apex Legends through any mechanic).

Can I earn Apex Packs?

Yes, Apex Packs are often given as rewards for reaching a new Player Level. You can earn a total of 45 Apex Packs from Player Levels 1 – 100.

How often do I earn free Apex Packs for leveling up?

The frequency of Apex Pack drops changes with your level.

Level 1 - 20: One pack every level
Level 23 - 45: One pack every two levels
Level 50 - 100: One pack every five levels

You will continue to earn 600 Legend Tokens per level.

What are the drop rates for items of a specific rarity in an Apex Pack?

Probability of at least one:

  • Rare or better item: 100%
  • Epic or better item: 24.8%
  • Legendary item: 7.4%

How is probability for Apex Pack drop rates calculated?

Apex Pack probabilities are calculated by simulating the opening of a large number of Apex Packs. We will re-run this process for any update where the rarity drop rates change and update our players accordingly.

What is the highest possible rarity tier for each item?

In-game items are available at the following rarities:

Common Rare Epic Legendary Weapon Skins Legend Skins Legend Finishers Banner Frames Banner Poses Banner Stat Trackers Intro Quips Kill Quips Crafting Metal
Common Rare Epic Legendary
Weapon Skins
Legend Skins
Legend Finishers
Banner Frames
Banner Poses
Banner Stat Trackers
Intro Quips
Kill Quips
Crafting Metal

Will Apex Packs contain duplicate cosmetics?

No. Cosmetic items you already own are not eligible drops when an Apex Pack is opened, so you’ll never receive duplicates of cosmetics you already own. Crafting Metals may always drop within a given rarity tier, regardless of how many you own. If you own all of the items of a given rarity tier, you’ll receive Crafting Metals of that rarity instead.

Will Apex Packs have bad luck protection?

Yes! Bad luck protection is available for Legendary items in all Apex Packs. Bad luck protection means that a player cannot open more than 30 Apex Packs without receiving a Legendary item.

How does the Bonus Heirloom set work?

Apex Legends currently has one bonus Heirloom Set available, which contains three items for Wraith. When a player opens an Apex Pack, there is a <1% probability of an Heirloom Set dropping. Heirloom Set drops do not deduct an Apex Pack from your inventory. Heirloom Sets cannot be crafted with Crafting Metals. A player cannot open more than 500 Apex Packs without receiving an Heirloom set (assuming the player does not own all of the available Heirloom Sets). Once a player owns all of the Heirloom Sets, the player will not be eligible for this bonus until more Heirloom Sets are added to the game.

4. Special Events

Will event-specific items ever come back at a future time?

Some event-specific cosmetics and rewards will return at a later date, but not all of them. Event items fall into these categories:

Event Exclusive – Can only be obtained during the specific event period in which they first appear. Will not be made available again in the future.
Battle Pass Exclusive – Can only be obtained during the specific event period in which they first appear by Battle Pass owners who reach the required level. Will not be made available again in the future.
Event Limited – May return in a future event or promotion.

5. Battle Pass

What is the Battle Pass?

The Battle Pass is a seasonal system that rewards players with exclusive cosmetic items. These rewards are a mix of exclusive seasonal cosmetics and Apex Packs. Every player can unlock some of these items each season through normal play; those who choose to purchase the Battle Pass can earn everything available that season, around 100 different rewards.

What is a season?

Each season brings new Legends, fresh loot, and special events that change the Games. Plus, every season comes with its own Battle Pass, which lets you unlock tons of unique content as you level.

How do I buy the Battle Pass?

The Battle Pass can only be purchased in the in-game store using Apex Coins. Launch Apex Legends, go to the store, navigate to the Battle Pass tab, and purchase the Battle Pass from there. If you need to purchase Apex Coins, you can do that in the store, too.

Does my Player Level reset when a new season starts?

No, your Player Level stays the same and doesn’t reset. Instead, you will get a new Battle Pass Level, and the XP you gain will count toward both your Player Level and Battle Pass Level. Your Battle Pass Level resets every season.

What happens if I buy my Battle Pass late in the season?

You’ll receive all the rewards up to your current level for the season, retroactively! If you buy the Battle Pass Bundle, you’ll get the rewards for 25 levels in addition to the levels you’ve already reached. For example, if you’re on level 20 for the season when you buy the Battle Pass Bundle, you’ll get all the rewards up through level 45.

Can I keep leveling my Battle Pass after the season ends?

No, the rewards available in a given season can only be earned until that season is over. For example, after Season 1 ends, you won’t be able to earn new Wild Frontier content.

Do I keep everything I’ve earned with Battle Pass once the season ends?

Yes, everything you earn with the Battle Pass is yours to keep, even after the season is over.

Do I get Legends by purchasing a Battle Pass?

No, Legends will not be included in the Battle Pass. The Battle Pass gives players exclusive cosmetic items and Apex Packs.

How long are seasons?

Each season will run for approximately three months.

What if I don’t buy the Battle Pass? Can I still earn rewards for free?

Yes! Even if you don’t purchase the Battle Pass, you can still earn the following items for free during Season 1:

  • 1 Wild Frontier Legend skin
  • 5 Apex Packs
  • 18 stat trackers

What’s the most efficient way to level up my Battle Pass?

Each character earns bonus Battle Pass XP at the end of a match based on survival time, up to a weekly cap. To reach your maximum Battle Pass level the fastest, you should maximize this bonus by playing a variety of characters throughout the season. Each character can earn up to 25,000 bonus Battle Pass XP starting the first week of Season 1, and the cap increases each week.

You can also earn an extra 500 Battle Pass XP for your first kill of the day with each character (max three unique characters per day).

Finally, the premium Battle Pass reward track offers Battle Pass XP boosts for playing with friends. These bonuses stack as you earn additional boosts.

If I own the Battle Pass, can I buy levels past level 100 to get the bonus items?

No, you can only purchase levels up to level 100. You must earn the final 10 levels through playtime.

Will the Battle Pass rewards ever return after Season 1?

No. All Wild Frontier cosmetic rewards (excluding Apex Packs and content dropped from them) in the Battle Pass are exclusive to Season 1 and will never be available again. Players in future seasons will be jealous of your OG status.

6. In-Game Currency and Shops

Can players spend money in Apex Legends to receive a gameplay advantage?

No. In Apex Legends, we don’t sell any items that offer a gameplay advantage. When you enter the Ring, no player will have an advantage based on how much they have spent. Apex is supported primarily by cosmetics and new characters (which can also be earned).

What are Apex Coins?

Apex Coins are a premium in-game currency which can be used to purchase Apex Packs, items in the Rotating Shop, and new Legends.

What are Legend Tokens?

Legend Tokens are currency earned by increasing your Player Level. Legend Tokens can be earned even after reaching max Player Level by earning enough match XP.

What are Crafting Metals?

Crafting Metals are dropped in Apex Packs and can be used to craft specific cosmetic items such as Legend skins, weapon skins, and more.

What is the Rotating Shop?

The Rotating Shop is an in-game destination where you can purchase individual cosmetics and characters. Each item slot in the shop rotates every seven days. There are two sections in the Rotating Shop: Featured and Shop Exclusives.

  1. The “Featured” section includes a curated selection of items. These items, normally only available as Apex Pack drops or unlockable with Crafting Metals, are available for direct purchase with Apex Coins for a limited period of time.
  2. The “Shop Exclusives” section contains exclusive Legendary Recolors that are available for purchase only with Legend Tokens. These items are not available as drops in the core Apex Pack and require ownership of the related prerequisite Legendary item before a purchase can be made.

Neither section of the Rotating Shop will feature Battle Pass items.

How do Legendary Recolors work?

Legendary Recolors are available in exchange for Legend Tokens through the Rotating Shop. Each item slot will rotate every seven days. You must own the prerequisite Legendary cosmetic before purchasing the recolor. The prerequisite Legendary cosmetic will always be available in the shop’s Featured section while the exclusive Legendary Recolor is available. The prerequisite Legendary cosmetic can also be acquired as an Apex Pack drop or a Crafting Metal unlock.

Can I get the exact cosmetic item I want?

Yes! Save up enough Crafting Metal currency to unlock the item directly in the Legends or Armory tabs. Alternatively, cosmetic items from the core Apex Pack periodically appear in the Rotating Shop for direct purchase with Apex Coins.

What payment methods do you accept?

You can make purchases through the Xbox Store or PlayStation® Store using any accepted payment method you’ve used in the past. Making purchases in Origin varies based on your location and currency. For more information about approved payment methods for Origin, check out the “What Payment Methods Can I Use on Origin?” section of the Buying on Origin: Orders and Payment Information article.
