## Damage Icons

Damage Icons represent multiple types of injuries, such as cuts and swelling, as well as health events and damage from submissions. Each damage type is represented with icons which appear in the Health and Stamina HUD.
## Vision Penalty

**Vision Penalty Icon**

Icon appears when a cut or swelling facial injury occurs on left or right brow/forehead or eye/cheek. This increases damage intake on the side the damage is located while this penalty is active. These penalties can stack and are lifted if there is no damage to the relevant location for 30 seconds, or at the start of a new round.
## Breathing Penalty

**Breathing Penalty Icon**

Icon appears when receiving facial injuries to the nose or mouth. This damage will decrease the current stamina recovery, while the penalty is active. These penalties can stack and are lifted if there is no damage to the relevant location for 30 seconds, or at the start of a new round.
## Cut Injury

**Doctor Stoppage Icon**

These result from the occurrence of any facial injury, except mouth, which can’t lead to stoppages. The more red the icon becomes, the closer a doctor is to stopping the fight.
## Stun Icons

**Head Stun Icon**

Appear as the result of any health event to the head.

**Body Stun Icon**

Appear as the result of any health event to the body.

**Leg Stun** **Icon**

Appear as the result of any health event to the leg.
## Health Icons

**Heart Icon**

This icon is meant to help signal a loss in max stamina, due to a deep choke.

**Arm Health Icon**

This icon is meant to help signal a loss in max block health, due to a deep arm submission.

**Leg Health Icon**

Deep Leg Locks affect permanent leg health and count as a health event.

You can deny a submission finish by holding ^RT^ and timing ^RSUP^ when the attacker is going for the submission finish.

Submission Denials


When attempting a submission, your fighter can transition to a better posistion using ^RSDOWN^ instead of finishing the submission. This is a good tactic in situations where achieving a finish is unlikely, such as when at a stamina disadvantage.

Submissions can lead to injuries if the defender survives with a Desperate Escape. See Stamina and Health for a breakdown on injury types.

To finish any submission attempt, use ^RSUP^ to transition to the Submission Finish. If your opponent has no Submission Resillience remaining and has missed the denial, the submission will finish.

Land strikes to the body to drain your opponent&#39;s Body Health. When fully drained your opponent will suffer a body knockdown. Body Health can recover during the fight and between rounds but at a slower rate than Head Health.

Damage will recover automatically to a threshold at a pace which is affected by your Recovery attribute. The threshold is affected by the amount of health events or damage your fighter has sustained. If this threshold is very low, your fighter is susceptible to being KO&#39;d or TKO&#39;d.

Hold ^RB^ to struggle and drain BOTH fighters stamina. This is a good tactic to press a stamina advantage against an opponent being defensive. Within submissions, fighters can&#39;t Deny at zero stamina. This tactic can be countered by faking, cancelling your moves with ^RT^.

If Block Damage starts racking up, use head movement or create distance to avoid some of the strikes thrown at you. This will also create opportunities to catch your opponent in a vulnerable position to counter-strike.

Escaping from Triangle to Half Guard, when the Attacker tries to Finish, will result in a Slam.

How to Slam in Submissions


Press ^X^ or ^Y^ to strike during a submissions. Attackers can strike from the Armbar, Triangle, and Rear Naked Choke. Defenders from Heel Hook. Counter a strike by timing it with ^RT^ + ^RSRL^ to the side where the opponent is.

How To Strike


Land strikes to the head to drain your opponent&#39;s Head Health. When fully drained your opponent will be knocked down. The damage you inflict on that final blow, relative to how much health your opponent has left will determine the severity of the knockdown. Head Health recovers automatically when your fighter can avoid head strikes.

Each Head Health event will make future health events more likely and more severe. If you get rocked multiple times on your feet, it might be wise to switch up your gameplan away from striking.

Successful submissions will drain the defender&#39;s Submission Resilience meter. If the meter is not fully depleted, the defender will be forced into a Desperate Escape. If meter is fully depleted, the defender will tap and lose the fight. The meter is damaged according to Submission Offense vs Submission Defense attributes, stamina difference between the fighters, and the Strength of the specific submission being used.

Submission Resilience


Perform Submission Counters with ^LT^ + ^RSRL^. The Guillotine can be countered by the Von Flue. And the defender can be become the attacker in the Heel Hook. Counters are powerful actions, but are also slower than Escapes.

Block Damage accumulates the more strikes you block in a row. Blocking multiple frontal strikes will leave you open to round strikes and vice-versa. The reduction in Block strength is controlled by your Blocking attribute.
