The main event at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will see two of the toughest competitors in the Women’s Bantamweight division square off, as Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes puts her belt on the line against Raquel “Rocky” Pennington. In preparation for this tenacious matchup, EA SPORTS UFC 3 simulated the fight and the results are in!

Adversity is a challenge that often brings out the best in fighters, something very familiar to both of these warriors. After saving the UFC 200 main event, followed by a stunning victory over Ronda Rousey, Amanda Nunes was faced with a massive test in the form of Valentina Shevchenko, escaping with the first split decision victory of her career. Nunes now puts her belt on the line against Raquel Pennington, an experienced veteran looking to prove herself after recently overcoming hardship. Battling numerous injuries, Pennington hasn’t been in the Octagon since 2016 when she defeated former champion Miesha Tate by unanimous decision. Despite the layoff, Pennington is looking to extend a four-fight win streak dating back to 2015.

The first round of the fight is back and forth, as Nunes displays her powerful striking abilities with a variety of boxing combinations against the well-rounded game of Pennington. Despite the pressure, Pennington responds with an effective counter strategy to slow the output of the ferocious “Lioness.” Both fighters return to their corner to rest and prepare a strategy for round two. At the start of the second round, it becomes clear that Nunes' aggression is too much for Pennington, as the defending champion backs the challenger up against the cage with an onslaught of strikes.
