How to Perform a Lateral or Pitch

Whether you're executing a speed option or scrambling, here's how to pitch the ball for big plays. This mechanic can be used in two scenarios:

  • Designed Run Plays: Known as pitches, such as in speed options.
  • Any Play: Known as a lateral, where you pass the ball to the player behind you.

Be aware that using a lateral on non-designed plays increases the risk of a fumble.

To perform a pitch or lateral, simply press the Left Bumper to toss the ball to the player behind you. For a stronger and more accurate toss, hold the Left Bumper for a moment longer.
