FIFA 12: Biggest EA SPORTS Launch Ever

 More than three million people have picked up FIFA 12 and notched up over 200 million minutes of online play already.

EA SPORTS FIFA 12 hit store shelves and online retailers across the globe on 27 September in North America and 30 September globally. Since then, an estimated 3.2 million people have picked it up and between them notched up more than 200 million minutes of online play.

That's nearly 170 YEARS of continuous FIFA 12 in one week.

Critical accolades have rolled in for what is the highest-rated sports videogame of this console generation, while initial estimates say FIFA 12 is the biggest launch in the history of sports videogames and the biggest videogame launch of 2011 to date.

"FIFA 12 is a stunning achievement by our team at EA Canada," said Andrew Wilson, Executive Vice-President of EA SPORTS.

"The massive FIFA online community has overwhelmingly connected to the new live services in the game, including EA SPORTS Football Club, and we intend to keep them engaged all season long as FIFA 12 follows the heartbeat of the football season."

He's not wrong, you know. Hundreds of thousands of people have already been collecting XP in EA SPORTS Football Club. As well as levelling themselves up, that has also determined the league standings of the teams they support. Check out the first week's shock results here.

Other notable numbers from the game's record-breaking launch include:

  • FIFA 12 for iPhone and iPad has already sold 191,000 units, and achieved the Top Grossing App for iPhone on 30 worldwide storefronts.
     
  • October 1, 2011 was the busiest day for online gaming in EA SPORTS history. Fans registered more than 10 million EA SPORTS game sessions, of which almost eight million game sessions were FIFA 12.
     
  • More than 14 million trades have already occurred within the Ultimate Team mode of FIFA 12. For the first time ever, FIFA Ultimate Team is available on disc for fans to enjoy the thrill of building, managing and playing with their ultimate team of football superstars.
     
  • To date, the clubs with the most supporters in FIFA 12 are:

    Manchester United - 255,868 supporters
    FC Barcelona - 154,045 supporters
    Arsenal - 140,568 supporters
    Real Madrid - 134,664 supporters
    Liverpool - 125,295 supporters
