Meet the Real Racing 3 Pro Team

Relive the 2017 Qualcomm New York City ePrix with the Real Racing 3 Pro Team

This month, Formula E proudly announced Real Racing 3 as their official ePrix gaming partner.

At all Formula E races worldwide, Real Racing 3 will now be used across the simulator rigs within the village fan zones.

To celebrate the announcement, the Real Racing Pro Team flew from Melbourne, Australia to New York City, to compete against real Formula E race car drivers in an eRace at the Qualcomm New York City ePrix. Meet EA’s first Pro Sports team, and relive all the action from the 2017 Qualcomm New York City ePrix eRace!

The Pro team is made up of 4 sim racers that are part of the Real Racing 3 development team at EA Firemonkeys: Jesse AKA “WESTFIELD” (RR3 Art Director), Donny AKA “DR_DONNY” (RR3 Software Engineer), Sam AKA “SKAYLER” (RR3 Quality Analyst) and Vince AKA “SURGEON” (RR3 Software Engineer).

A brand-new track was developed exclusively for the competitive gaming event in New York. Lots of detail went into the design of the track including the Brooklyn Port and iconic skyline assets such as the Statue of Liberty, and Manhattan Island. The 1.95 KM long track is located in Red Hook, a neighborhood of Brooklyn.

New York is one of Real Racing’s more challenging tracks, even more so than Hong Kong, due to its tight corners and close walls.

There’s a very fast chicane with a quick right then a sharp left that you must hit perfectly otherwise you’ll end up straight into a wall.

On July 15 and 16, Formula E hosted the first ever race to take place on the streets of New York City.

The event happened in Red Hook, Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

The Allianz eVillage entertainment zone hosted a wide range of activities and displays of the latest electric vehicles, hybrid cars, and racing simulators.

Fans could head to the eVillage and set Real Racing 3 lap times on Formula E simulators.

The fastest fans of the day were invited back to race wheel-to-wheel against the real Formula E drivers and the Real Racing 3 Pro Team.

Among the qualifiers was Swedish Mahindra driver, Felix Rosenqvist.

The Real Racing Pro Team were also in the eVillage practicing. The ePrix environment was a bit different than they’re used to at the Firemonkeys office in Melbourne.

Skayler posted a blistering qualifying time of 52.945, and nobody came close to it.

In the eVillage, fans had a chance to meet and get autographs from the real drivers, like IndyCar legend Dario Franchitti.

The eRaces were livestreamed directly in-game from the event for millions of fans from all over the world to watch the quickest players take on the pros.

On day two of the event, crowds gathered to see the spectacular race between RR3 super fans and some of their favorite Formula E drivers. The main screen on the stage displayed a directed in-game camera feed.

The inaugural race ended with Skayler claiming the checkered flag, uncontested! The crowd gave a rousing cheer as he crossed the line.

Skayler was awarded an official Formula E eRace trophy.

French Techeetah driver, Jean-Éric Vergne, finished in second place, and third place went to Dutch Andretti driver, Robin Frijns.

Real Racing 3 will continue to be the official platform for Formula E for all future races.
