It was week 14 of the English Premier League, and we had 8 different clubs represented in the team of the week.
Fulham was one of three clubs with multiple entrants after their impressive win over Liverpool last night. Mark Schwarzer was solid in goal and Danny Murphy played a great game in midfield with his late shot on goal leading to the winner.
Yakubu's 4 goals for Blackburn ensure he leads from the front. Arsenal's four nil win over Wigan contributed Mikel Arteta and the scoring centre back Thomas Vermaelen to our team.
Yaya Toure was the only player from Man City to make the team after his stylish goal against Norwich. Check out the full team below.
With thanks to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, here are some interesting facts from the weekend.
Man City vs. Norwich City
• Manchester City put five goals past Norwich City to take their impressive scoring talley to 48 goals in just 14 Premier League matches this season averaging over 3 goals a game. Norwich certainly found themselves chasing the game for most of the 90 minutes and this was certainly backed up by The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index which shows that as a team they covered more distance than any other Premier League team during game week 14 covering 70.12 miles.
Newcastle United vs. Chelsea
• Chelsea secured an impressive 3 points against a strong Newcastle team with a 3-0 victory at St James Park. Newcastle’s Tim Krul has been in superb form this season and he did manage to save a Frank Lampard penalty during the game. According to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index the Dutch keeper interestingly covered 3.86 miles during the game, this was the most distance covered by a goalkeeper during game week 14 with Chelsea’s Petr Cech in 2nd place covering 3.82 miles. This suggests that both goalkeepers saw plenty of action during the game
• Young England and Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge once again showed his huge potential producing a bright and lively display with The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index showing he reached a top speed during the game of 26.14mph. This was the highest top speed reached by any Premier League player during game week 14.
Aston Villa vs. Manchester United
• Manchester United kept up the pressure on league leaders Manchester City with an assured performance in a 1-0 victory against Aston Villa courtesy of a first professional career goal from Phil Jones. Luis Nani was the man on hand with a beautifully weighted cross and it was the Portuguese winger who covered more distance than any other Man Utd player (6.85 miles) during the game. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index also shows Nani averaged a speed of 4.56mph in the 90 minutes, again the highest average of any United player this game week.
• Both teams now sit mid-way in the Premier League table after a 1-1 at Loftus road. QPR, usually so full of energy covered the least amount of distance during game week 14 totalling 50.65 miles, according to The EA SPORTS Player Performance index this is 19.47 miles less than top distance coverers in game week 14 Norwich City. West Brom has the 2nd lowest total with 54.65 miles.
Blackburn Rovers vs. Swansea City
• Nigerian striker Ayegbeni Yakubu helped himself to all 4 goals and secured an important 3 point for Blackburn in their 4-2 victory against Swansea to move off the foot of the Premier League table. Interestingly The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows Yakubu covered 5.09 miles, this was the least amount of distance covered by any of the outfield players who started the game for Blackburn. This suggests that Yakubu used his energy wisely, coming alive in the final 3 of the pitch and taking his chances superbly.
• Arsenal's Captain Robin Van Persie was once again the star man assisting two goals and grabbing the 4th himself in Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over bottom of the league Wigan. The Gunners young Welshman Aaron Ramsey has consistently been one of the top players for Arsenal when it comes to covering distance during games according to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index and this was once again proven as he clocked up 7.85 miles during the game. Only Morten Gamst Pederson of Blackburn covered more distance (7.89 miles) in the Premier League during game week 14.
