The EA SPORTS Team Of The Week

Three game weeks have been played over the Easter period in The Barclays Premier League and in return we have been treated to some top class football, shock results and some outstanding individual displays from players. Below The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index gives us an insight into some of the top performing players over the last couple of weeks.

Papiss Cisse

  • The Newcastle striker and arguably one of the signings of the season so far has scored 3 goals in the 2 matches he has played over Easter including a wonderful lob over keeper Michel Vorm against Swansea during game week 32. Cisse was praised by many for his defensive duties against Swansea and The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that he covered 6.13 miles during the game; this was the highest distance covered by a Newcastle player during the game backing up claims that he works hard for the team off the ball as well as scoring the all-important goals.

  • The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index tells us Papiss Cisse has had a total of 25 shots at goal in his 9 Barclays Premier League Appearances so far, 18 of these shots have hit the target resulting in a total of 10 goals.

Andy Carroll

  • The Liverpool striker scored a late winner during his sides 3-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers during game week 33 to take him up to 4 Barclays Premier League goals for the season. Carroll currently sits 229thin The EA SPORT Player Performance Index and is the 39thhighest ranked striker within the Index. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows us that Carroll has had 60 chances on goal so far this season with 50% of chances hitting the target.

Paul Scholes

  • Since coming out of retirement in January Paul Scholes has been in superb form and he continued this over the Easter Period with man of the match displays against QPR (Game week 32) and Aston Villa (Game week 34). The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows us that Scholes has made a total of 349 attacking runs without the ball in his 13 league appearances since his return to football; interestingly 212 of these runs have been made in the first half of games compared to 137 being made in the second half. This may suggest that towards the latter stages of games the midfield maestro holds back on making those bursting runs forward to save some of his energy

Carlos Tevez

  • The feisty Argentinian had a superb Easter scoring 4 goals in 3 games including a hatrick against Norwich during game week 34.  According to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index Tevez received the ball off his team mates 74 times during the 80 minutes he was on the pitch against Norwich, this was more than any other team mate during the match and suggests that his team mates see him as a vital part to their play and look to get him on the ball at every opportunity possible.

Jonny Evans

  • The Manchester United defender has cemented his place in the side in recent weeks alongside Rio Ferdinand and has risen up to a season high of 17thin The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index after helping the Red Devils keep two clean sheets out of their 3 Easter fixtures. Evans is the 2ndhighest ranked defender in the index only behind fellow team mate Patrice Evra who sits in 8thPlace. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that the Northern Ireland international has won 26 of the 30 tackles he has made this season whilst fellow centre back Ferdinand has won all of the 25 tackles he has had to make.

Clint Dempsey

  • 3 goals in 2 games ensured Clint Dempsey continued his superb season which currently sees him sat 19thin The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index. The American midfielder has scored an excellent 16 goals in 33 Barclays Premier League appearances this season which makes him the highest scoring midfielder in the league so far.

  • Interestingly The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows us he has an extremely high work rate as he has covered more distance this season than any other player in the Barclays Premier League. Dempsey has covered a total distance of 208.83 miles in his 33 league appearances with Wolves Stephen Ward in 2nd(199.5 miles travelled in 33 appearances) and Stoke’s Jonathan Walters in 3rd (196.42 miles travelled in 33 appearances)

And with thanks to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, here is week 34's Star Line Up.
