The Engine

Empowering game creators to shape the future of gaming

The first generation of Frostbite was designed and built in conjunction with the game Battlefield Bad Company. Based on DICE’s experience with the large scale open world Battlefield series, Frostbite was an ambitious game engine that enabled large scale multiplayer interactions in dynamic destructible environments. Today Frostbite is the core piece of EA's one-team strategy; through the sharing of technology between studios we are creating a shared language for EA developers.

Our workflows and runtimes are highly configurable and cover all disciplines of development including Audio, Animation, Cinematics, Scripting, Physics, Destruction, Rendering, VFX, and more.

Games come alive with deep and dynamic worlds using changing weather, adaptable cities, landscapes, and complex events.

With state of the art technology, the engine helps game characters move closer to being indistinguishable to real people.

Massive and progressive damage on terrain, architecture and vehicles which even enables altering the flow of a map or level.

Realistic weather, vivid fires and explosions and even trademark blaster bolts get players even closer to the action.

A great game engine today has to support all the latest features, and within an efficient and flexible framework that can grow and adapt in the ever-changing, competitive world of games.
