Player Ratings Update: Week 8

We’ve reached the halfway point of the NFL season, and our top three players in focus are not only getting ratings increases this week, they’ve all seen huge lifts in their OVR rating over the first half of the season.

Epic runs, crazy catches, and incredible plays abounded all over the NFL during Week 8. And the Madden NFL 22 Ratings Performance Adjustor team is working hard to tweak, refine, and polish ratings across the league based on those IRL performances.

Let’s take a closer look at some key Ratings Updates as we ready up for Week 9. 

Week 8: Who’s Up

Cooper Kupp | WR | Los Angeles Rams

Statistically the NFL’s top wide receiver so far this season, Cooper Kupp leads all wideouts with 10 touchdowns and 924 receiving yards through Week 8. He’s coming off a 115-yard, one touchdown game and has scored five times over his last three contests. Kupp’s OVR rating is +5 so far this season, and he’s now positioned as a top-10 WR in Madden NFL 22 with a 91 OVR.

Kyle Pitts | TE | Atlanta Falcons

The young star tight end for the Falcons has only one touchdown so far this season, but ranks third among all TEs with 485 receiving yards, trailing only Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews. Kyle Pitts has seen his OVR rating increase +4 over the first half of the season and sports an 85 OVR rating heading into Week 9. Not bad for a rookie. 

Cordarrelle Patterson | HB | Atlanta Falcons

The former return-specialist/wide receiver turned running back, Cordarrelle Patterson has proven his versatility out of the backfield this season for the Falcons. Through Week 8, Patterson ranks second among all running backs in receiving yards (333), has scored seven total touchdowns and is top-10 at his position in total fantasy points for the fantasy footballers out there. His OVR rating has gone up +5 this season, and he’ll take an 81 OVR into Week 9.

Week 8: Who’s Down

Patrick Mahomes | QB | Kansas City Chiefs

One of the Madden NFL 22 cover athletes and a 99 Club member dating back to Madden NFL 20, Patrick Mahomes has had a challenging season so far. He’s not known for throwing interceptions, but already has 10 this year--his worst mark since 2018 when he had 12 for the entire year. As a result, Mahomes is slipping to a 98 OVR rating ahead of Week 9.

Austin Hooper | TE | Cleveland Browns

Austin Hooper is coming off a 26-yard outing against the Steelers. Overall, he’s had a disappointing season statistically, with just one touchdown and 169 receiving yards through Week 8. As a result, the Browns TE is seeing a dip in his OVR heading into Week 9.
