When I play The Sims, I am playing the best version of me. My Sim is super smart, has maxed out all of her skills, and is probably gonna double major and take every elective in university.

I just want to play out a family for as many generations as I can. I love building a story.

The inspiration comes from the Sim. To me, their wardrobe will match their personality.

The best part of The Sims community is definitely the creations that they come up with. I love going through the Gallery and through Twitter, just seeing different custom content or builds that people have made. It’s really cool.

I think The Sims community is SO creative. I'm in complete awe of how people build super detailed lots.

Besides The Sims, my other passion is dancing. I’ve been dancing for as long as I can remember and I do it professionally.

I think I’ve taken some life lessons from The Sims, mainly in design, like room design. I’m a terrible builder, but I love decorating rooms. I kind of have taken that and put that in my real life and started decorating my real rooms. That’s pretty fun. I feel like playing The Sims has enriched my life—not because of the creating and making families, but because I’ve met so many amazing people through The Sims.

I’m not actually super outgoing. I present myself to be. I’ve been playing The Sims since I was a 5-year-old when my brother’s friend came around our house with a disk of The Sims, and thankfully he let me install it on my computer. I was hooked from the get-go because of how open-ended it is. There are so many possibilities.

What do you love about the game?

I really do live vicariously through my Sims, because there’re so many different options in life that I’d like to explore, but you’ve got to choose one option in life to actually make it through it. There are so many different things you can do.

Being able to play out different storylines.

Focusing a lot on the storylines that are in the game.

I don’t really enter Create-A-Sim. I tend to focus on gameplay, storytelling, and building.

Being a part of the Sims community has completely, completely transformed my life because now I’ve got so many friendships that I absolutely love. I’m really getting to meet so many cool people that are on the exact same wavelength as me because it can be quite hard to just bump into people like that. And to be able to share creative ideas and bounce off each other, it’s really enriching. That’s the best way that I can describe it.

I come from a big, massive family in the northeast of England and we’re very northern. We’re very working class, and there are a lot of us. My accent is actually from Middlesbrough. Family and friendship mean everything to me. 

What is a life lesson you have learned from playing The Sims?

I think an important life lesson I’ve learned from it is just how different the world can be, because you can have so many different types of characters within the Sims—totally different traits, totally different ethnicities, totally different sexualities—that the world is just a melting pot of people. And it’s a great way to discover that.

Also, the ability for a game to make me emotionally invested in a way—no other game has—and to have me hooked for over half my life!

I'm a very positive person that likes to see the best in everything. I’m also pretty chill, laid-back, and I don't take anything too seriously. However, I can be a very focused and driven person when I need to be.

When did you start playing The Sims?

I started playing The Sims when I was really young, probably around 10 years old. I have an older brother who loves all video games, so he definitely got me into gaming. I started with The Sims 2, and I remember playing it for hours by myself and sometimes with friends. I was that girl who would rather stay home and play The Sims over anything else. I built the WORST houses back then, too…. Just massive boxes that didn't even have roofs!

What do you love about the game?

The Sims is a way for me to rediscover something that I loved as a child, but it also provides a way to create my own reality where I make the rules. I can do whatever I want, dress however I want, and go down any career path. There is an unlimited number of experiences you can have in-game that may not be possible in your everyday real life. For me, I have also found that The Sims is the best creative outlet. Sometimes I need to escape the pressures of real life and just let my creativity take control. This is the game that lets me truly do whatever I want.

What draws you into playing The Sims?

The longevity of the game is really appealing. The developers work really hard to release new content packs each year to keep the game interesting and fresh. Once you think you've seen it all, a new pack comes out to change up your storyline or interior design style. I'm constantly being challenged creatively to build different things and utilize new objects. I can see myself playing this game for the rest of my life.

What is your unique approach to playing the game?

I like to build with the players in mind. I understand that not all Sims players are able to have every single pack. That's the reason I actually started my YouTube channel as a Base Game builder, to prove that you didn't need to have every single pack to build an amazing home. Today, a lot of my builds and series on YouTube only use Base Game + 1 pack, so that I can ensure that most people can use and enjoy my creations.

What is your unique building style?

I really enjoy building from a real-life reference photo of a house. That may be the most non-unique thing ever…. However, it is just so satisfying when a build in a video game can look exactly like a real-life house! It is a lot harder than it looks to replicate some of the unique architectural details, but it's a fun challenge to get the creative juices flowing. The series on my channel dedicated to this concept is called Curb Appeal.

Where do you get inspiration for your builds?

I get my build inspiration from pretty much anywhere. Whether I’m walking the streets of Downtown Vancouver or traveling around Europe, inspiration can come anytime. In terms of my interior design... HGTV all the way! One time someone told me my interior decor reminded them of a Joanna Gaines house. Best. Comment. Ever.

What is your favorite part of The Sims community?

One of the greatest things about The Sims is how inclusive it is. It doesn't matter how old you are, where you live, or what you look like. There is a place for you here.

How would you describe The Sims community and what does it mean to you?

The Sims community is one of the most passionate communities out there. They know what they want and aren't afraid to let the world know. They are also some of the most supportive people. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or expert builder, there is always someone there to tell you what an amazing job you've done and encourage you to keep improving. Without the community to support me, I would probably still be building boring box houses with no dimension or fun backstories.

What is your claim to fame as an influencer in The Sims community?

I wouldn't necessarily say I have a clear claim to fame. I've created a few notable series on my YouTube channel such as my renovation series Love It or List It and my recreation series Curb Appeal. Besides that, I think my videos just provide a chill and positive vibe to hang out in. I'm not here to stir the pot or invalidate anyone's opinions. People also say I have a soothing voice, haha!

I’m very proud of my Asian heritage, and I would definitely like to be a role model in this community. I haven’t personally met a lot of Asian influencers in The Sims community, so I hope that by me being on the show, I can maybe inspire some more people to put themselves out there. I’ve been playing The Sims for 20 years.

What do you love about the game?

I absolutely love to build in The Sims 4. It’s my favorite thing to do in the game, and I’ve been doing it since Sims 1 came out.

What draws you into playing The Sims?

The creative freedom. I can build whatever I want and create whole new worlds for my Sims and others to explore. I am otherwise not very artistic—I can’t draw or sing, for example. But it is cool that, through the game, I found a way to vent my creative spirit.

What is your unique approach to playing the game?

I definitely like to challenge the build mode of the game sometimes. I always try to create new builds that are new in shape or function to the original gameplay. Also rebuilding houses, sets, or props from movies or TV shows and bringing them to The Sims 4 is a nice challenge.

Where do you get inspiration for your builds?

I definitely think that it’s easier to build something if you have a reference. Since I’ve lived in the South of Spain, it’s easier for me to build Southern Spanish architecture. It’s the same, of course, with every kind of German build. Sometimes a small picture of a house or even art can spark a new idea for a build.

I think it’s a community that is very engaged with each other. It’s a more close, friendly community kind of feeling. Simmers are very creative and fun people who often like to talk about the game and share their stories, creations, and ideas. Everyone is welcome and no idea is too weird or frowned upon. I really like that about The Sims community and I think it also makes it more special than maybe even other game-related communities.

I am happy to be a part of this community and love how friendly and creative everyone is. Over time, I found new friends who all love the game as much as I do. We all inspire each other. When I started my YouTube channel, I just wanted to showcase some of my builds better than in the in-game Gallery. I’ve been building in The Sims as a hobby since Sims 1 and just thought it would be a nice occupation to do these tiny little videos and share some of my ideas with the community. I never thought it would get so big, to be honest. For me, I still consider it a hobby that I just really like to do, and if others get inspired by my videos, that’s what makes me happy.

I’ve learned to be more patient, I would say. Building in The Sims takes a lot of time. It’s like tiny little knickknacks that you add over and over. There are some builds that take up to 45 hours. I've been playing The Sims for 20 years since the original Sims game. When thinking about most of my life, it has been spent playing The Sims since I started at 4 years old, which sounds insane. But once a Simmer, always a Simmer.

What do you love about the game?

Representation and being able to play without restrictions, using my imagination, is super important to me. Because if you can include every ethnicity or personality or whatever in the game and you use your imagination to create something unique with it, it'll make it more worthwhile for me to play.

What draws you into playing The Sims?

The community draws me into playing The Sims when I see such amazing creations and storytelling, building, or a Sim that someone created just for fun. It's motivating me to think outside the box to develop new ideas for things I can do when playing The Sims.

To try and incorporate everyday life, movies, or even books that I read into the Sims that I create to tell a unique story.

I usually get my inspiration from Pinterest for different architectural styles. I even looked at The Sims 4 Gallery, especially scrolling through the debug objects for new ideas for a build.

I've learned a lot of compassion, kindness, positivity, and community from playing The Sims. I have used The Sims to get over my anxiety and escape from the real world. Because with The Sims, I've always felt that it was something more than just a game. People made fun of me when I was in school because I was different and I was playing a "girls’ game" or wasting my time with it. No matter what people said about me, The Sims allowed me to be myself and express myself.

When did you start playing The Sims?

I was 9 or 10 years old when I first got into The Sims from a neighborhood friend. I would spend time at her house, and every day, I would pull up a chair and watch her play The Sims. I thought that was absolutely the best experience, and this went on for probably about a month until her mom had come upstairs and seen me watching my friend play, and she’s like, “Have you never played the game?” And I’m like, “No,” like, you know, “She won’t let me play,” and she was like, “Oh, give her a turn.” So that day was probably like a big strike in our friendship, because her mom was just insisting on me getting a turn where before I would just come over and just watch, and I thought that was the greatest thing until I actually started playing and I realized that, “Wow, I’m, like, in love with this game.” It’s been a crazy ride ever since.

What do you love about the game?

The one thing that I really love about The Sims is it’s my creative expression. It’s how I feel like I can create anything, I can create anybody, I can create people who look like me in the game and just live out different experiences. It really is a stress reliever. But most of all, it’s how I can creatively express myself in what I wanna see around me, how one’s story is to be told, and it really just gives me the freedom to create anything.

What draws you into playing The Sims?

What’s so great about The Sims is that I’m able to create a family and create a story and a background and really bring my Sims to life, really bring their stories to life, their characteristics, their traits, and how they adapt with each other and get along with each other. So I really feel like when you play The Sims and you play with different people that come from different walks of life, it’s so easy to put them together. That’s something that I really love about it, is that you can create anyone, anything, any past, any ethnicity, any diversity—you can create that and make it one big melting pot and in your own creative vision.

What is your unique approach to playing the game?

My approach would have to be creating a story with the most realistic elements! I love adding drama and plot twists to my gameplay! A lot of my gameplay is recorded for my YouTube channel! One thing I enjoy most, and my viewers too, is letting the Sims autonomy play a huge role in the direction of the storyline.

Where do you get inspiration for your creations?

My stories come from my experiences, and I think something that you’ll see a lot of my personal life in is my series Single Father. A lot of the really big events that happened in that series kind of shadowed my own life, and I think that’s why it is my favorite series. It’s unmatched. I get asked all the time, “Which series of yours is your favorite?” and hands down, I always say, you know, ”You have to take Single Father out of that equation because it’s unmatched.” It’s a replica of what I went through growing up.

What is your favorite part of The Sims community?

My favorite part of The Sims community is the level of creativity! Seeing the creations from my fellow Simmers blows my mind, from build to Create-a-Sim! But the area that shines the biggest light is the custom content creation for this game! It truly shows the talent these creators have!

How would you describe The Sims community and what does it mean to you?

Talented, creative, and supportive! My DeeSquadt community is the most supportive group I’ve ever witnessed in my life. They have definitely pulled me through some rough patches in life! I am forever grateful to them! Every day, when it's time for me to bring the daily dose of “ Vitamin Dee,” I know I’m doing it all for them!

What is your claim to fame as an influencer in The Sims community?

My mission with The Sims and my channel is to create people that look like me in the game and see the culture and the diversity in all of my gameplay, so in my game, I make a lot of African-American Sims ‘cause I want my community to look like the community that I’m used to.

What do you want the audience to know about you?

I love to entertain people. I honestly feel like I was put on this earth to entertain. I love drama and theater. It was my bachelor’s degree in undergrad. I have been in theater all of my life. I’ve always been a very dramatic person, so it kinda worked hand in hand, and with The Sims, I feel like I’m really able to express myself and really able to create characters and a setting and really come together and make a story.

One important life lesson that I have learned playing the Sims is charisma. I’m not shy about talking to people or performing in front of people. I think it’s important for someone to be charismatic. I know it’s not easy, but, you know, opening up and talking to people is very important to me. I am not afraid to talk to anyone.

How would you describe your personality?

I’ve always been the class clown type of guy. I’ve always really enjoyed making people laugh.

When did you start playing The Sims?

I’ve always been a fan of Sim City and Sim Tower, so as soon as The Sims came out in 2000, I started playing it. I played a lot of Sims 1. And when Sims 2 and 3 came out, I didn’t really have access to a computer since I was in school and I was working, so I didn’t get to play a lot of those games. But I did play a lot of Sims Urbz and Sims Bustin’ Out on my old Nintendo consoles.

Then, later on, I started streaming on Twitch, and Sims 4 was coming out, so I was like, “Hey, I really liked The Sims back in the day. Do you guys mind if I, you know, play this? Would you guys be cool with that?” And they’re like, “Yeah, I would love to see your take on that game!” So I started playing Sims 4 day one, and I’ve been playing it since then—all the packs and everything.

What do you love about the game?

What I love about The Sims is that it’s just so versatile. It’s got a little bit of everything in it. It’s got some humor to it; I can add my creativity into it—my own brand of comedy—and the game really lends itself well to that. I work with the humor that’s already in the game and I add to it. Even if there’s a bug that’s kind of funny and it makes a situation goofy, we just roll with it.

What draws you into playing The Sims?

For me, it has totally got to be the creative side of it. You can create your own little worlds, from the people to the buildings to the individual stories of each character. That’s what I really enjoy—as a storyteller, it’s limitless.

What is your unique approach to playing the game?

I like to take existing challenges, like the 100 Baby Challenge or Rags to Riches, and then add my own crazy spin to things. Like how about 100 babies off the grid, or adding a wheel that randomizes a bunch of wackiness into a Rags to Riches story?

What is your unique storytelling style?

What I feel sets me apart is that I’m focusing more on a fantasy type of element to the storytelling. I don’t really do real-life stories. I create stories around pirates, a romance in a medieval class system, or Sims battling it out for survival. I like to come up with these types of elaborate stories.

Where do you get inspiration for your creations?

I’d have to say a lot of it comes from my imagination, but I’ve been greatly influenced by the Saturday morning cartoons I used to watch as a kid and other things like that.

What is your favorite part of The Sims community?

I’ve been lucky enough to meet a lot of the other Simmers that are in this amazing community through my streams, events, and cons, and it’s just so easy to make friends. That’s what I like best about this community—everyone can bond around their love of this game and feel like they can be themselves, and that leads to great friendships.

How would you describe The Sims community and what does it mean to you?

It’s hard to describe the community in just a few words. It’s this great group of creative people who are so inspirational and fun! You genuinely feel like you belong, that you are valued, and that you can just be you! It means so very much to me to be a part of this amazing group of people.

What is your claim to fame as an influencer in The Sims community?

I’d like to think it’s in the creative, funny stories that I tell. My daily wackiness. I like to build spaces that tell stories too—I’ve done the 100 Baby Challenge about four times, each one in a new place that creates unique challenges.

I kind of imagine myself as a Saturday morning cartoon character on one of those shows you remember from being a kid. I’m creating these stories that are going to put a smile on your face—that’s what I hope, at least.

When did you start playing The Sims?

When I started playing The Sims, I started with families, just nice and wholesome. Now, it’s fully a reality show. I love to make it messy.

What do you love about the game?

I just love that I can be whoever I wanna be. I love The Sims because you can do everything and anything.

What draws you into playing The Sims?

I love the viewers. That’s, like, the main reason I do it. I play the Sims ‘cause it’s an escape.

What is your unique approach to playing the game?

I get a little crazy and I get a little funky. There’s always a new story to tell.

Where do you get inspiration for your creations?

I’m inspired by other influencers. That's just one of the side effects of living.

What is your favorite part of The Sims community?

YouTube has always been a major source of happiness for me, so doing more than just “Let's Plays” and having Simmers watch my videos is something I've thoroughly enjoyed.

What is your claim to fame as an influencer in The Sims community?

I am a SimTuber. I play myself. I put all the makeup gurus in a house and watch the world burn. I like having a God complex.

Playing The Sims taught me how to be human. It has taught me how to communicate.

How would you describe your personality?

I can be pretty stubborn at times. I am an Aries, so it does make sense.

When did you start playing The Sims?

I was 6 years old when I first picked up the game and have been playing ever since. I am a lifelong Simmer.

What do you love about the game?

I love character creation. I love telling stories within The Sims on whatever crazy ideas that my community and I come up with. My personal favorite thing about The Sims is that it fully lets my imagination run wild.

What draws you into playing The Sims?

Honestly, it's the stories. I've always loved telling stories through my own virtual world, and the range of stories you can tell is what keeps me coming back.

What is your unique approach to playing the game?

Not re-creating the perfect life. I feel like everyone can have their flaws, and Sims feel so much more real when I let them slip up or make mistakes or have them live in gross surroundings. For me, that really helps the game stay entertaining, so I tend to lean into that when I play.

What is your unique storytelling style?

People say I become attached to my Sims as if they're real people, and I think that helps bring out their personalities in so many different ways in my stories.

Where do you get inspiration for your creations?

Anywhere, really! Conversations I overhear, TV shows I watch, people I know. The great thing about The Sims is that it's based on life, and there's an awful lot of inspiration in life.

What is your favorite part of The Sims community?

The Sims community just promotes inclusion and diversity. It has players from all over the globe. I’ve met some of my very best friends through The Sims. And we get to meet up a few times a year. And it’s just like being reconnected with family. It just feels like one, big family reunion when we all get together.

How would you describe The Sims community and what does it mean to you?

The Sims community is like a second family at this point. I feel like I've grown up with so many people who all have the same interest as me, and I feel really lucky to be a part of it. I've met some of my best friends and Simmers from all around the world through this community, and I wouldn't change it for anything.

What is your claim to fame as an influencer in The Sims community?

This show? No, seriously, I don't even know if I can claim this, as I didn't come up with the original challenges (go check out both of them on the forums!), but my Asylum Challenge and Black Widow Challenge went down a storm, so I'd have to say those.

What do you want the audience to know about you?

When I started my YouTube channel, I was in university. I was studying English as well. And I was struggling to find a name. I couldn’t really come up with one. The English Simmer was born, because I am both English and I was studying English in university.

What is a life lesson you have learned from playing The Sims?

Through playing The Sims, I’ve figured out that I’m a pretty creative person. My imagination tends to run wild. And it also made me super comfortable with my sexuality. All throughout university, I went through a questioning phase. And just playing The Sims and being able to tell the stories that I wanted to tell in my own personal space really helped me to open up with myself and just become more comfortable in who I was.
