Battlefield Labs is bringing the best out of Battlefield 6

Discover how player feedback and developer collaboration are shaping the future of Battlefield 6, launching October 10

October 03, 2025

Several Battlefield 6 players playing the game across 2 long rows of computers.

Across the world, from Sweden to the UK, Canada to the US, a powerhouse of creative studios and 20+ years of Battlefield experience came together with a singular mission: to build the next great chapter of Battlefield. Artists, engineers, designers, and storytellers joined forces under the Battlefield Studios umbrella, united by a shared passion to craft the most ambitious, most explosive entry the franchise has ever seen.

And joining them on this mission was none other than our most dedicated players and fans, invited in through Battlefield Labs–the most ambitious collaboration with the community in the franchise’s history–to help test, polish, and perfect what the developers had built.

The results? A groundbreaking collaboration that has pushed the game to be as explosive, immersive, and exciting as possible, which everyone can experience when Battlefield 6 launches on October 10.

“Community feedback through Battlefield Labs is central to the success of this game… It’s the best way for us to push boundaries while ensuring we don’t break anything in the process.”

Battlefield’s most ambitious community development collaboration ever

When Senior Producer David Sirland first proposed Battlefield Labs, he envisioned an evolution of the testing environment established in previous entries; he saw a collaborative workshop where the passion of fans and the expertise of developers could combine into something greater than either could achieve alone.

That vision became a living, thriving reality when Battlefield Labs launched in February of this year. With hundreds of thousands of sign-ups, a community of players and creators came together to shape Battlefield 6 together.

“Community feedback through Battlefield Labs is absolutely central to the success of this game—and I hope it remains so for any future projects we build,” David said. “It’s the best way for us to push boundaries while ensuring we don’t break anything in the process. When we innovate, we rely on players to let us know what works and what doesn’t, allowing us to adapt and improve. At the same time, we have our own creative vision, so it’s a constant back-and-forth with the community. We’re extremely grateful for that relationship, because without it, we wouldn’t know if all the different parts of the game truly came together.”

The program showed its promise early on when the dev team debated weapon systems. Initially leaning toward open weapon sets in the beta process, they provided more options to players after strong community input.

“Players told us loud and clear that they wanted the closed weapon sets from Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 3,” Sirland said. “So we accelerated that change, making it part of the open beta much earlier than planned. That feedback sped up the process significantly and validated our direction.”

In addition to closed and open weapons systems, it also helped the team test a wide range of performance across a huge number of machines (PC and console) of different specs to ensure top performance. Helped test and tune to gameplay-specific features like Tactical Destruction as well as class abilities and drag and revive. And to receive feedback on gameplay moments such as weapon handling and movement.

This change, among others, validated to the dev team the success and power of the Battlefield Labs program. Because not only were they connecting and working with the community of players and fans, they were improving upon an already world-class product, together..

“Battlefield Labs I think can evolve to become a natural part of our ongoing development process. Because it doesn’t just help us better understand what we’ve changed—it also plays a key role in ensuring our updates are stable and perform well."

The evolution of developer-community relationships

Battlefield Labs has proven its success. Now, Sirland hopes to see it continue to be a mainstay for the team.

“Battlefield Labs, I think can evolve to become a natural part of our ongoing development process,” David said. “Because it doesn’t just help us better understand what we’ve changed—it also plays a key role in ensuring our updates are stable and perform well."

“It could be as simple as pinging the Labs community on Discord: ‘We’ve got a new game mode ready, come test it in an hour.’ That speed of iteration would be huge for both devs and players,” David adds.

The long-term commitment to Battlefield 6 also means a steady stream of new content—maps, modes, and more. Labs offers the perfect proving ground to ensure that every addition makes the game stronger.
