將近一個世紀之前，邊疆碰上了一場災難性的能量危機。瑪麗‧薩默斯博士是一名有魅力而古怪的天體物理學家，她被雇用來尋找解決方案。瑪麗將全家搬到了奧林匹斯上的科學研究站，並開始工作。

在她的學徒，里德博士的協助下，瑪麗發現了布拉提恩－－她認為這是一種能夠提供無限能量的元素。但布拉提恩只會出現在黑洞的吸積盤上，所以瑪麗和里德博士踏上了這個危險的任務來證明她的理論。

瑪麗向自己的兒子牛頓承諾自己會安全回家。但里德博士卻背叛了她，她不但偷走了布拉提恩，還將她的太空梭送回黑洞的軌道。瑪麗透過自己的機智改裝了她的機器人同伴紐特來逃脫。不過黑洞內外的時間推移速度並不一樣，而她晚了 87 年。

現在，瑪麗一心想要取得研究資金來尋找回到過去，並與兒子團圓的方式。她以引力大師天際線的名號加入了 Apex 競賽，正好趕上了即將在下個賽季中推出的奧林匹斯－－她曾經住在這裡，這裡也是她承諾要回來的地方。
