In the first defense of his Strikeforce Welterweight title, Nick Diaz got to exact revenge on KJ Noons, who won their first matchup via cut three years previous. Diaz handily outstruck Noons on his way to a thrilling unanimous decision victory.

In a much-hyped title unification bout, Rampage Jackson put his UFC Light Heavyweight strap on the line against PRIDE FC champion Dan Henderson, claiming a thrilling decision victory and his first title defense.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (UFC 75)


It was a battle of promotional all-stars when PRIDE’s Quinton “Rampage” Jackson faced off with UFC stalwart Chuck Liddell at PRIDE Final Conflict 2003. It would take Rampage just three minutes to put Liddell on ice, presaging their rematch for Liddell’s UFC strap four years later.

Following a brief stint outside of the organization, Rampage would step back into the Octagon for the UFC’s return to Montreal, and take a clear-cut decision victory over the always tough Fábio Maldonado.

Undersized and an underdog, “Suga” Rashad Evans fought his way through the second iteration of The Ultimate Fighter to the finals, where he’d win the season over Brad Imes before dropping to Light Heavyweight and starting his ascent to the title.

Fourteen years after the start of his first UFC tenure, Robbie Lawler had returned to the Octagon and realized the apex of an incredible career resurgence. Fighting Olympic Freestyle Wrestling silver medalist and certified freak-of-nature Yoel Romero is no enviable task for anyone. At UFC 225, it was Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker’s second encounter in as many fights. After a close and contentious battle for the interim Middleweight championship in their first meeting, the pair would tangle once more in another nailbiter and instant classic.

A former Olympic bronze medal-winning Judoka, “Rowdy” was a bonafide star in just her fourth MMA contest. In her fifth, she defended her Strikeforce Bantamweight title against the gritty veteran Sarah Kaufman, continuing her streak of first-round armbar victories.

In an all-time Y’all Must Have Forgot moment, former Strawweight queen Rose Namajunas stunned defending champ and force of nature Weili Zhang with a head-kick KO to reclaim her throne. At UFC 268, Namajunas faced Zhang in an immediate rematch, securing a split-decision victory and the belt.

In a rematch with Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida, Shogun Rua would end the Machida era in emphatic fashion, claiming the belt by TKO and becoming the undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight champion of the world — the cherry on top of a legendary career.

After hitting the first twister submission in UFC history and following that up with a blistering seven-second KO, “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung was given a main event matchup against the streaking Dustin Poirier. He’d D’arce “The Diamond” in the fourth and earn a title shot in the process.

The millennium had just turned when Tito Ortiz turned in a dominant decision victory over Wanderlei Silva to win his first title and start his reign at the top of what was then called the UFC middleweight division.

A heated, personal rivalry with former teammate and then Bantamweight champ Cody “No Love” Garbrandt would come to a quick and violent head as former Bantamweight king TJ Dillashaw reclaimed his crown by TKO in the second round. Dillashaw the second of three new champions named on that fateful night in the Garden.

After extending his win streak to twelve and leaving a trail of contenders in his wake, Tony Ferguson continued to loom large as the Boogeyman in the lightweight division. His win streak is considered by some as the greatest in lightweight division history.

The blue canvas of the WEC cage is synonymous with Urijah “The California Kid” Faber, who would dominate its featherweight division and become a fan favorite in the process. At WEC 26, he added a feather to his cap that only got better with age when he submitted a young Dominick Cruz via guillotine choke in the first round of their championship matchup.
