Battlefield 6 and REDSEC Season 1 - Winter Offensive Update
December 9, 2025
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
In New York City, an elite squad uncovers the secret origins of the mysterious highly-armed SCIFs. It’s Pax Armata. And they’re not done with the U.S. Not by a longshot.
Battlefield 6 and REDSEC Season 1 continues with Winter Offensive, which deployed on December 9 at 4 a.m. PT (12 p.m. UTC).
This required update for both the free-to-play* experience REDSEC and for all Battlefield 6 owners is centered around the Winter Offensive Limited Event, which includes a Bonus Path containing the new Ice Climbing Axe free functional melee weapon. The Empire State map freezes over for limited-time experiences in both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, while Portal creators can now create even more with additional features such as the Gauntlet Verified mode.
The Winter Offensive update (Patch 1.1.3.0) includes improvements to soldier clarity, weapon reliability, vehicle behaviour, audio consistency, and overall gameplay flow. More technical information about these patches can be found in the “Game Updates” section of our website here.
Winter Offensive Limited Event for Battlefield 6 AND Free-to-Play REDSEC

Available during Winter Offensive, the Winter Offensive Limited Event spotlights the new content included in this update. You can access this Limited Event in its own dedicated section in the “Play” menu; look on the left-hand navigation list to find it among your usual sections for “Multiplayer,” the free-to-play “REDSEC” experience and more.
In the Winter Offensive section are quick access links to its main features, including the following:
Winter Offensive Bonus Path

Unlock new free functional content - the Ice Climbing Axe - and premium customization rewards, including Weapon Packages, by advancing through the tiers of the California Resistance Bonus Path.
Premium Tier Rewards require purchase of the Season 1 Battle Pass.
This Bonus Path is as follows:
| TIER | Bonus Path Points Required | Free / Premium Tier (Battle Pass Required) | Item Name - Item Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 | Free | Ice Age - Weapon Sticker |
| 2 | 20 | Premium | Melting Frost - Vehicle Skin |
| 3 | 30 | Free | Career XP Boost |
| 4 | 40 | Premium | Wildwood - Weapon Charm |
| 5 | 50 | Free | Predator’s Gleam - Vehicle Decal |
| 6 | 60 | Premium | Hardware XP Boost |
| 7 | 70 | Free | Winter Unity - Uniform Patch |
| 8 | 80 | Premium | Cold Comfort - Soldier Skin |
| 9 | 90 | Free | Isbjørn - Playecard Background |
| 10 | 100 | Premium | Solstice - Weapon Package |
| 11 | 110 | Free | Ice Climbing Axe - (FUNCTIONAL BASE MELEE WEAPON) |
The Winter Offensive Bonus Path can be completed concurrently alongside the Season 1 Battle Pass. In other words, you do not need to choose to make progress between a Season 1 Battle Pass Path - i.e. Rogue Ops, Soldiers Of Fortune - and the California Resistance Bonus Path.
Each Bonus Path Tier requires 10 Bonus Path Points to unlock, which means you need to earn 110 Bonus Path points to complete the Bonus Path. Bonus Path Points can be earned in one of two ways:
WEEKLY CHALLENGES may award Bonus Path Points as indicated on the Challenges screen. The amount of Points earned varies by challenge; for example, an easier Weekly Challenge can award a range of Bonus Path Points depending on difficulty.
Not all weekly challenges award Bonus Path Points; specific weekly challenges that grant these points will be made available during the Winter Offensive event.
WINTER OFFENSIVE EVENT CHALLENGES also reward Winter Offensive Bonus Path Points; these are objectives themed around this update’s new experiences.
Free Functional Melee Weapon - Ice Climbing Axe (BATTLEFIELD 6 AND REDSEC)

Designed to make an enemy’s blood run cold or pick through more delicate environmental pieces, this axe chops through the current melee offerings of the Sledgehammer, the Combat Knife, and Gecko’s personal carving tool given to those who completed the Campaign.
The Ice Climbing Axe also includes new takedown maneuvers; consider them cold-blooded ways to snatch those Dog Tags (including, unfortunately, our developer Dog Tags…)
Season 1 Challenge Update - Unlock the DB-12 Post-California Resistance (BATTLEFIELD 6 AND REDSEC)

The Season 1 Challenge Assignment set, where you can unlock free functional attachments and the M357 Trait Sidearm, will now include one final challenge that rewards the free functional DB-12 Shotgun. This challenge is for those who did not have the opportunity to unlock the DB-12 during the California Resistance Limited-Time Bonus Path.
BF Pro Bonus Path In-Season (BF6 / REDSEC)

Prior to the end of Season 1, Battlefield Pro owners will receive an additional Bonus Path that includes rewards such as two Weapon Packages, Hardware XP Boosts, and a new Soldier Skin across 10 Tiers.
Similar to other Bonus Paths, the BF Pro Bonus Path will have its own points and progression path to unlock all its content, done through its own unique set of challenges.
More information about the BF Pro Bonus Path can be found in Battlefield 6 and REDSEC towards the end of the year.
In addition to this Bonus Path, BF Pro owners also receive instant rewards, a progression boost, 25 tier skips and more. Learn more and purchase BF Pro for Season 1 here.
Ice Lock Empire State - Limited-Time Map Update (Battlefield 6 AND REDSEC)

Environmental threats detected -- temperatures have dropped well below freezing in Brooklyn. Gear up, stay warm, and take complete control of the borough with this limited-time visual update to the Empire State map.
No icy patches or sliding physics here; this temporary environment change simply sets the backdrop for the Winter Offensive story and content, including the Ice Lock Events in Battlefield 6 and REDSEC.
Ice Lock - Limited-Time Event (Battlefield 6)
The Ice Lock looms…
For this event, special versions of Conquest and Domination will be available to play with the Freeze mechanic active.
With Freeze, areas (outside of team HQs) around the Combat Zone have sub-zero temperatures - over time, a soldier will feel the effects of the Freeze with clear indicators on the HUD of their core body temperature. When their Freeze point is at 100%, a soldier takes damage over time until at a critical health state (35%), and cannot passively regenerate health nor regenerate health from most gadgets or other sources.
To avoid being frozen, soldiers can sprint to slow the speed of Freeze or use an Adrenaline Injector. Alternatively, they can visit designated heat zones around the map to thaw out. Heat zones reduce Freeze build-up and negate all health regeneration blockers from being 100% frozen. Soldiers can also create their own heat zones using friendly - or hostile - Incendiary effects, such as from Gadgets.
This mechanic is only active in specific experiences and is designed to challenge squads to tactically manage resources. Do you risk freezing over to capture a crucial objective? Or do you pack enough heat in your loadouts to not only torch the opposition, but also set the Combat Zone ablaze and melt frozen allies?
Ice Lock Gauntlet - Limited-Time Mode (REDSEC)
Similar to the Ice Lock for Battlefield 6 Multiplayer, Gauntlet will have a Limited-Time Ice Lock variant that adds to the experience’s relentless nature with the sheer force of harsh winter conditions.
Unlike a traditional Gauntlet on Fort Lyndon, Ice Lock Gauntlet takes place on the Battlefield 6 Multiplayer map Empire State Ice Lock with a locked set of three missions in every match. The exact missions are:
- Deadlock
- Extraction
- Wreckage
Master these operations and your squad will be rewarded with more than just the pride of victory.
Portal Updates (Battlefield 6 AND REDSEC)
Portal creators will now be able to use the following new features in their creations:
- Ice Lock Empire State - Use the wintery version of Empire State as the backdrop to your custom carnage-filled creation, or simply add it to your map rotation of your hand-crafted verified experience.
- Freeze - Even in the heat of Cairo, use this new mechanic to add freeze and heat zones to your experience.
